About MTNs

Am I correct in thinking that a starting character with an Agility score of 5 (Olympian, according to the corebook) and a melee skill bonus of 13 with an MTN 10 task ahead of them would have a TN of 13, thus requiring a roll someplace between 10 and 13 for success? That seems like a ridiculously small probability of success for someone at Olympic-level physical competency.

Quote
Difficulty   When To Use
No Roll   Don’t roll if the task is easy or impossible.
Roll   If the task has a moderate chance of failure. This is the default Difficulty, where the character needs only roll TN or less to succeed.
MTN 10   If the average person would fail. In this case, the character must not only succeed, but also do so with a die roll of 10 or higher.
MTN 15   If practically everyone would fail. In this case, the character must not only succeed, but also do so with a die roll of 15 or higher.
Crit   If failure is almost assured, but dumb luck could apply. The character can only succeed if he rolls his TN exactly.

I got to GM a few sessions with my D&D buddies over the last couple of weeks, and I must say that this game runs very quickly and even more quickly!

Good job, overall. Very good job.

Oh, I totally understand. I was just making sure that you were thoroughly informed on my part.

By the way, thanks for taking the time to make sure that your players' needs are met. I'm sure that it's no easy task fixing problems in the game, and that it takes time and serious effort to do so. Thanks for doing what most people rarely appreciate.

I'm a huge proponent of actual character sheets for several reasons, really.

For one, they help me understand gameplay mechanics.  Also, if you print out a character sheet, you don't have the data-to-records updatability that penciled-in character sheets do. The only thing I have against the Archetypes supplement is that the data is pre-loaded and cannot be edited, for example. From a personal standpoint, I absolutely love the idea of having a physical thing which I can hold and sink my mental teeth into. There's also the roleplaying angle, the idea of having an alter ego on a page, but that discussion could go on for ages.

Awesome. Just remember to keep things light for a day or three and you'll be just fine!

Good points all around. I think that creation software would be a cool thing, but the actual process of creating a character could be lost on people who use a lot of computer tools. It helps a player to understand how the game works if they have to actually write down the information and calculate scores by themselves.

With the game as new as it is, I think that it's vital for players to do some dirty work in pencil and paper.

You won't have to worry about a lack of posting from me too much. If anything, you may end up telling me to tone it down a little.

I have a wee tendency to treat fora like IRC channels.

Preemptive congratulations to you! I need to get back into martial arts. I kind of fell out of it just before I got my blue belt in Jeet Kune Do. School complicates things so much!

Well, way I see it, there's not much point in starting anything if you don't start it off right.
It's a pleasure to be here, and I hope that this game gets the recognition and use that it deserves.

And in steps a fella who calls himself Theist. I'm sure that it's an assumed name, but whose isn't around these parts?
He has the air of a guy who's seen everything and done more, no doubt collecting a few of those scars on the way. His handshake is hard and fast, like the revolver strapped to his thigh. "Name's Theist," he says, "I'm just stopping by on my way back from a particularly nasty bounty hunt on Io. Got anything to drink in this rathole?" I call for the bartender, but he's already there. "Your usual, sir?" He must be a regular here, or well on his way to being one. Happy Harry doesn't call just anyone "Sir."  There's just no way that kind of courtesy develops out of the blue in a hole like this. You earn that. You earn it by being one of the best in the business, right up there with Spike Spiegel and Cold Rock Johnson. "How 'bout I get this round for you," I suggest, ". . .Theist, was it?" I'll have to watch you, yessiree.

I'm working on getting a group together to play through Small Fry either this coming weekend or the next.
I really look forward to the gameplay, it looks like it's gonna be a ton of fun!

Okay, I was worried for a bit.
I assume that this will be a buyable download from RPGNOW?

Are the other adventures (Ghost in the Machine, etc;) supposed to be with the pdf?
I downloaded the book from RPGNOW, and the only adventure included is Small Fry.

Even if it's just the one adventure included with my copy of the book, adaptations from Cowboy Bebop episodes
could be done fairly easily, I think.
