The two places are literally right next to each other, it won't make a difference whether you intend to meet the prince or your sires/Patron first, you have to go to the same place before the decision is made.

A medieval person's assets are unlikely to be static. Most peoples' Resource will be land and animals, which must be farmed to generate revenue. Merchants must trade. On the other hand, medieval vampires are unlikely to have much use for money. They might want weapons, or cash to pay bribes, but what do they need? They don't need food (on which medieval craftsmen spend 90% of their income), don't need to spend money running a car, and are unlikely to pay rent. Markets and traders are only open during daylight hours, so vampires without mortal servants won't even be able to buy anything.

1   Scant resources: You have just enough to afford the bare necessities -- shoes and clothes when yours wear thin -- but nothing more.
2   Sufficient Resources: You can meet your basic requirements and still have one or two shillings spare per month.
3   Comfortable: you might own a small house and have some means of making a comfortable living. You earn five Librum per year (about average), all spending money. Consequently, you have five shillings per month. If you sold up and moved out you would get no more than five Librum.
4   Wealthy: You have a large house or small manor. You might own a village or you might be a wealthy merchant. You could afford to keep a horse, and you certainly have a few servants. Servants that will stay loyal to you regardless of secrets should be counted as retainers. In addition, you have five shillings per month. In total, your estate is worth around 400 Librum.
5   Vast Wealth: You might own a castle and vast tracts of land (10 -- 20 entire villages), or run a huge trading empire. If you can work out a way to exploit these resources, you could maintain a huge household, including stables, servants, etc. and still have one Librum per month to spend. The estate would be worth thousands of Librum, if you could find anyone wealthy enough to buy it.

Librum = 12 Shillings.

The slave currently on sale would cost Carinus his entire yearly salary, assuming he earns two per month.
