Isaac Asimov once published the ultimate collection of dirty limericks. I made it a point of trying to memorize as many as I could. Alas, my Swiss-cheese memory has let most of them dribble away, but I still recall one or two:

Said Enstein, I have an equation
That some may call Rabelaisan.
Let V be Virginity,
Approaching infinity,
And P be a constant, Persuasion.

Let V over P be inverted,
And the square root of P be inserted,
X times over T,
And the result, QED,
Is a relative, Einstein asserted.

Okay, this one's a bit my gaming group in college would do once in a while.

One of the group would issue the challenge to another. The one challenged had to rise and, in a loud voice, say the following as fast as he could:

"I am a pleasant mother pheasant plucker.
I pleasantly pluck mother pheasants.
I am the most pleasant mother pheasant plucker that ever pleasantly plucked a mother pheasant."

Go on. Try it. I dare you.  ;D

Oh, and I will willingly demonstrate this when we meet at Gencon. ;)

I've actually not made it to DragonCon yet. I can really only afford one con a year, and I've chosen GenCon each time. ;)

From what I have heard, if gaming is your thing, then GenCon is the way to go vs. DragonCon.

BZ

Yup, that's pretty much my take on it, too. ;)

Well, it's a 10-11 hour drive to Indy from Baltimore; that's counting stops.

Wow, do you attend DragonCon more frequently than GenCon?  Or actually how many times have you made the trip?  (I forget if you have said this was your first GenCon or not) -

BZ

This is my fourth or fifth GenCon. My first trip was to Milwaukee the last year GenCon was there; I (very foolishly) drove both ways solo. The next time I went, I flew to Indy, repeated that the next year, then drove last year (and will this year). My in-laws live in VT, so I'm used to doing ~9 hour drives for traveling. :)

I think we are closer to Baltimore than Indy  ;D Please tell me you are not a Ravens fan....??????? ???

West VA is not real far from us either. We will look into that as well, thanks for the information. :)

I'm sorry. I thought I had mentioned this before.

With all due respect, I consider most professional sports in the US to be a disease, similar to compulsive gambling. Cities are spending billions of dollars maintaining these teams and stadiums while schools and fire stations are closing due to lack of funds. I mean, really, explain to me what the hell does a basketball player do that's important enough for him to be paid a salary greater then the President of the United States!  >:(

If I woke up tomorrow to find the major leagues (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL) had ceased to exist, I would not shed a tear.

I understand that folks have a soft spot for their sports teams. I just don't share the appeal.

Sorry for being a downer; this happens to be a hot-button issue with me. Don't mind the crackpot. Carry on.

I know, I'll run my pickup game 8-12 in the same room you're in, then we can play a round of Cthopoly 12 - 1 (or 2 at the latest) - that way you can see us and still have time to help your friends  :)

What do you think?

BZ

Um, sure. Thanks! :)

If you need the location, the run is the Sunday 0800 session of The Nemo Diaries.

Just to let everyone who may not know in on the fun....

If you are coming to Indy early, there are FREE games being run pretty much all day Wednesday. Organized and sponsored by the Kentucky Fried Gamers. With the fantastic support of the restaurants - Ram Brewery and Scotty's Brewery.

Check out the GenCon forums, under the KFG for a listing of all the games/times/locations. Sign ups begin this weekend on the forums. There will be a separate thread for each game, simply make a post that you would like a seat. Games typically take 6 - 7 players. Once all the seats have been claimed the game is full.

You do not need to be a member of the KFG to join in the fun. All we ask is that if you sign up for a game YOU SHOW UP!! You WILL BE HEXED if you are a no show. If something happens that you can not make it please post so that someone else can take your seat.

:D

Do ye happen to be a member of said KFG? I ask because I'll be trying to make the get-together at Scottie's on Wednesday (albeit late that day) as part of the Exile Games' GM troupe. Perhaps we'll meet there!  :)

If I have a phobia, it's weightlessness. Don't ask me how I got it, but the sensation of free-fall freaks me out. Roller coasters are definitely not my cup of tea, and I can't go into the deep-end of the pool without something to hold onto.  :P

Well, I got my paid seat for the Penguins run at GenCon, but if it gets down to it, I'm willing to rassle Bill for the ticket.  ;D

I was hoping to get into one of the Dresden Files runs at GC, especially since the Evil Hat bunch are almost local boys (just one town over in Frederick) and the campaign is set in my own town (Bawl-mur, as it's called by the natives), but the furshlugginer tickets sold out quicker than Viagra at an AARP convention.  :D

Re: my kids. Yeah, it helps that gaming is a very visible thing in our household, what with us hosting games on a weekly basis and my gaming books taking up one-quarter of the dining room space. It's only one-quarter 'cause the rest are either in the other bookshelf in the finished part of the basement or in boxes in the unfinished part of the basement. :)

Either that, or he found out what the Korean take-out shop was really serving and wanted to make a stop to that;D

Or a big question...... Origins or Gen Con?  I am curious to hear the reasoning for this one  ;D

Ooh, this one requires thought. I'd love to go to both, but finances dictate otherwise. Ironically, the same factor would point to Origins as the choice (it's closer to me, for one thing) but GenCon has always stood as the gaming mecca to me, all the way back to when I was a young man stuck in a small tropical island, reading about this cool place in Wisconsin where people got together to talk and play games.  :)

Yup, 4 kids all girls. This is where I usually pause for the inevitable sympathy noises from the audience. ;)

Ages range from 25 (she just had her b-day last weekend), 20, 17, down to 11. The only males in the household have been me and the cat. And the cat's been fixed. Why do they call it "fixed", anyway? It's not like anything was broken.  ;D

You sound like a good husband Nestor. I am proud of you.  ;D That sounds like a good idea" the gaming group". Your wife is not interested in the Con? She sounds like a wonderful lady :) Our kids think BZ and I are nuts.  They take us for who we are and love us anyways  ;) We took them to Con on The Cob to show them what we do and try to involve them and all I have to say is thank goodness we brought the computer so they could chat to their friends for 9 hours. One of our girls played in a game but the other ones, they just liked the family time ;D Bonding experience, you know  ;)

The main hold-up for both of us going to GenCon is, as it is for most parents, What To Do With The Kids. She would probably enjoy coming along, but not if she just ends up running herd on the brood while I run stuff. ;)

As for the kids' interest in gaming, it's been a mixed bag. My oldest is the artist and mostly does diary-type games, where she can write to her heart's content. My second likes more strategic stuff; her preferred games are ones like Talisman and Descent. Daughter #3 is the social butterfly; she games because it's fun to be with other folks.

The youngest... ah, she's the blossoming GM. She spends most of her time gaming with her friends over the phone! She discovered MMO's at an early age and now I have to fight over the computer with her. She wants me to run games for her and her friends, but I'm frankly intimidated by her level of imagination. I don't think I could keep up with her!  ;D

We saw BaboonBill. It was cool. Did not get to play with him yet til Gen Con because his wife is not a gamer and he had birthday obligations to her. Wifes come first, always. ;D

I was watching a game BZ was running and I was approached by a typical gamer geek who said to me " you must be a spouse ( cause I looked bored at the moment, and I was  ;))" and I replied " I am".  I informed him that I had nothing to do at this time and proceeded to pull out my stack of gaming tickets for future fun I planned on being involved in. He said he was jealous and my husband was a lucky guy to have a gaming wife. I did not realize what a precious commodity that was to a gamer.  ;D

Indeed it is, but just as important is having a spouse who not only understands the gamer lifestyle but is willing to support it. For instance, GenCon falls right around our wedding anniversary, but my wife is willing to see me go away for four-five days during that time regardless.

But the biggest thing she's done lately is organize a RPG night for her home-school group to help teens, and their parents, get introduced (or for some, re-introduced) to gaming. She calls the event Roleplaying: Exploring the Worlds Beyond Dungeons and Dragons. We had our first get-together last Friday, where I ran a demo for Hollow Earth Expedition that was well-received.

Did I mention I love my wife very much?  ;D

Yeah, the fact I had to dig through the rulebook every time someone wanted to use a spell was kinda why my SR game fizzled, badly. I'm so glad the most badass member of the group was a largely cybered-up dwarf with twin shotguns and shock-pads in his hands. The guy who played him is planning on doing his own campaign, although seeing as he's mostly just done D&D before I'm a little cautious.

It's a shame really; WoD (old or new, I love them both) is a really good example of a quick, simple dice pool-driven game, despite a few flaws. The similar mechanic is what drew me in to start with, actually... XD

It's one of the reasons Hollow Earth Expedition, the RPG I run at GenCon, grew on me. It also uses a dice-pool mechanism; the author formerly worked at White Wolf.

Shadowrun seems to be a popular game. I never played it. I would be interested perhaps, with the right GM  ;)

Not a game for the faint-hearted, and I certainly wouldn't use that system to introduce someone to roleplaying.

Shadowrun sits firmly in my personal "great setting, lousy rules" category.  :)

Rear Admiral Yancy Graham: Now, call me a prude if you want, but I don't think it's good policy for the Navy to hand over a billion-dollar piece of equipment to a man who has "Welcome Aboard" tattooed on his penis.

and...

Adm. Winslow: What do you think, Mr. Dodge?
Cmdr. Dodge: I think I'm gonna get my ass kicked, sir.
Adm. Winslow: Aw, don't think like that! Damn it to hell, don't go by the book! Think like a pirate! I want a man with a tattoo on his dick! Have I got the right man?
Cmdr. Dodge: By a strange coincidence, you do, sir.

and...

Lt. Emily Lake, Diving Officer: So what's that tattoo that I've heard so much about?
