Though to be fair, there's no real "fighting" Goratrix - the whole Cotterie actually gets a chance to try and fight him later on in the books and the description of the fight is just "They lose. Badly."

Everyone wants a slice of the Princely pie.

Most old vampires are so powerful that an open position as prince would make them too vulnerable to their enemies (it's hurting the Tzimisce Vovoides against the Tremere right now, for example - though the vovoides have the advantage of being exceedingly powerful and unified), so they just manipulate the younger vampires into positions of princedom and then begin the puppet-mastering - as seen here

Strength blood boosted to 10, Potence 3, sneak attack bonus of 2, dagger Damage bonus of two, Anton got hit with a total of 14 dice of aggravated damage and 3 automatic successes from Potence. He received the exact average in terms of damage.

If he'd taken enough to die I would have just had the result be the same though (wasn't going to kill Anton like that, haha).
