Wow, that's the pits!  :'(

I lost a few of my goldfish to overfeeding/nitrite poisoning, but am getting better at keeping the water cleaner now.

Last time we went away for the weekend, we lost three, because our teen (in charge of feeding them) forgot to feed them and then gave them the entire weekend's food all at once would make up for it. She did the same with the cats. The cats lived through it, but the fish didn't fair as well.  :P

Hope you catch a break soon Seth, seems like you could use one!  :)
Thanks.

I don't *think* it was something I did.  The other Betta is still good.

My beautiful Betta died.

He was the best, smartest, friendliest Betta.  He would come over when you called him & follow your hand & take food right from you.

He was fine yesterday. Seemed happy.  Tonight I went to change his water & he was dead.

That was addressed exclusively to Seth, who gave me the impression he resented Lucien suddenly being a lot stronger.

Then you are deliberately missing the point.  I really could not care less about anything you do with/to Lucien.

What do you mean?

Kiril wanted to serve Kupala?  :o

Uh, yeah. I sent you like, 4 or 5 pms about it.  One of them got like, a one sentence brush-off, & you ignored the others.

I assume you're pretending to be surprised as some kind of smart ass commentary.

. . . having seen your profile I feel the sudden need to explain mine.  I resisted Live for years until it turned out I couldn't have a custom Hawke in DAI without online.  So I very quickly used my Player2 profile and did the absolute minimum to create an account.  Which I guess I never went back and did anything else with.

. . . the pink unicorn is on purpose, though.  ^_^

Hey, you've got Sunset Overdrive?  Is it fun?  That's the one I was thinking about getting next.  I've only got Fallout 4 and Shadow of Mordor.

Oh, and Call of Duty.  My father gave me that at Xmas, and at first I was confused but "yeah, thanks."
I can never tell if he just grabs the first thing he sees, or if he's making a genuine effort, but has substituted (deliberately or not) his own opinion on what my tastes should be for what they actually are.

Anyway, he then blithely announced he'd bought it for himself, because he thought Xbone games could run on PS4, but turns out they don't.

Media & Mayhem / A longer story than it needed to be
« on: April 19, 2016, 03:42:51 pm »
So:  I'm at home, middle of the day, and there's a knock at the front door.

Now, where I live, anyone you'd want to talk to doesn't come to the front door.  If they know you at all, they'll come around back.  The "back" door is the main door to the house, and in my family, it's the only door that's actually used.  The doorbell didn't work when we moved in, and we've never fixed it.  In fact right now (since Xmas) there's a coffee table blocking the front door from even opening more than enough to turn a pizza box sideways and slide it through.

So I don't answer the front door.  I don't care who you are, if you're at the front door I'm not home.  But wife is on the couch where she can see out the window, and she says "hey I think it's the police?"

I climb over the coffee table and crack the door, and it's actually the same cop 911 sent a couple weeks ago to make sure I didn't die before the paramedics got there. (small towns are great!)

Anyway, he says . . . "Your neighbors didn't think you were home."

???

First of all, if you didn't think we were home, why were you knocking?  Second, you didn't remember two weeks ago when you tried to come in the front door?  (Okay, maybe he thought that was a temporary thing.)

So he goes around back, where we can actually open the door and talk to him.  Which is super convenient, as it turns out the thing he wants to talk to us about is, in fact, over by the back door.

Officer Friendly has shot a sick skunk right next to our deck.
(Which means he was right by the back door and I still don't get why he didn't just knock there.)

And now his earlier statement makes a little more sense.  Apparently, he was explaining why he unlatched our fence gate and came into the yard and shot the skunk before coming to talk to us.

I still want to know who the hell called the police in the first place.  Neighbors say it wasn't them.
I mean really, that's how little actual crime/danger there is around here, that someone thought the appropriate response to a skunk in our yard was to sic the police on it?

Anyhow, he left it there.  Said it would ruin his squad car/ uniform if he touched it, but that after we let it air out overnight, it was okay to throw in the trash.

Really?  Are we sure it's safe to do that?  I mean, what do you mean it was "sick?"  Do you mean rabid?

Teal deer:
My whole backyard smells like dead skunk.

Haha yeah it does look like I meant it like that. XD
It was more like "I don't know why she made me go; a general theme of Japan was "you're not going to avoid doing things because you're afraid of talking to ppl"; a general theme of life is "we're not going to be the ppl who don't do things because it's difficult."

Whyfor?

1) you think I would rather not/ can't come up with my own xp spend (in a timely fashion)

2) you know things about survivability that make this advantageous

3) it's sensible that if Cil got older, his stats would improve

4) another reason I didn't think of

5) none of your business Seth, just say yes

That was the hardest thing about onsen for me. I can't really see without my glasses, but couldn't wear them to the onsen, they'd fog up & I'd be blind anyway.    Oh and my wife (who can't see either, but at least we'd have been together) wouldn't go with me because she doesn't even wear a bathing suit in public without covering it. And yet she insisted I had to go, because . . . ??

I would actually avoid that for a Storytelling game (where possible). Once you get maps involved, it brings in an tactical element that isn't terribly conducive to the overall feel of these types of games.

Yeah but then you end up with situations like "well obviously it was a stupid idea to try and ride your horse down that alley, you should have intuitively understood that when I called it an alley, that meant it was way too narrow for any sane person to ride a horse through it"

or "Wait, I got hit by my ally's attack because I was standing between my ally and his target?  But in order to get there, I would have had to deliberately go around him to get between him and the target-- in the now-established-to-be-extremely-narrow alley.  My stated intent was to secretly follow him- how did that include going around him?"

Kiril begins walking again, this time heading in the direction of Barabus's remains.

Carinus stays with me because it affords him excellent opportunity to engage his true passions.  When a suitable moment presents itself, he will cast me aside, or strike me down as he needs to.
Elias quite definitively chose not to serve me-- he only recanted his refusal in the terror of imminent death.  Since then, it's obvious he questions the wisdom of that decision.
Sherazhina has repeatedly informed me that she neither wanted nor needed my so-called 'rescue."  She has been quite clear in her resentment over our continued relationship.

It's not loyalty.  It's slavery.  You think I don't know they all loathe me?

Kiril stops walking.

So what do you suggest?  I go back, try to protect Barabus, get incinerated by koldunic magic or torn apart by war ghouls-- but at least my ghouls merely despise me for my idiocy and not my cowardice as well?

Stupid, Kiril . . .  So stupid.  Pathetic, really.

Knew it didn't feel right, Sandor treating me like a respected colleague. Knew it didn't make sense.
Idiot.   Doesn't matter.  Couldn't have done anything about it.

Worthless, pointless. . .
As though I could protect anything, anyone.
As though anything I did ever mattered.

It's a play, going on all around us, and I'm the useless fool who doesn't know his part.

Kiril wraps himself in shadow and begins to walk away.  Nowhere in particular, just away from all of this.

So. What I did yesterday in three sentences:

My wife had always said she would never call 911; this turned out to not be true.
Apparently, I told the paramedics I didn't need to go in the ambulance because I was indestructible.
My right hand only just stopped shaking this morning.

Now, I just so happened to have a preexisting appointment with a neurologist scheduled for this very day.  Which the ER dr was like "oh that's good, you can discuss this with them."  They gave me 24 hours worth of anti-seizure medication & said neurologist could determine if I should keep taking it.

Except I got Farking lost Farking twice on the way to the neurologist.  Which turned out to be goddamn right across the street from the Farking hospital I was just at yesterday.  Which you'd think the person who gave me directions might have mentioned at some point.

But I got lost twice and was ten minutes late.  So obviously there was no possible way the neurologist could see me.

However, in their infinite mercy, they did allow me to reschedule the appointment.  For next month.

So I called my pcp's office but she was gone home for the day.  & no other drs in the office had any availability.
And I'm like "could I just leave a message for someone?"
Because I kind of would like to know if I should keep taking the anti-seizure pills, and if so, could someone write me a rx for them?

Ending was just bad. The death is going to have so little impact at the beginning of next season compared to now. Hell, maybe that's why they did the cliffhanger. Maybe they need people to be less interested to soften the blow of losing one of their favourite characters.

Build up would have been fine... If it actually made sense. Which it didn't, because their reason for trying to get past the saviours was that Maggie was giving birth, something that was only discovered that morning.

So... we either expect the saviours just know these things, or they knew she would have to go there eventually (since they killed the town's only doctor, which they of course know is their only doctor for some reason) and they were just prepared every day to execute this plan.

It pisses me off when it's so easy to make the show better.

Was she? It didn't seem to me like she'd been pregnant that long, but maybe.

And why didn't Rick just kill the first group?

And how did they know where to be when Rick & co were in the woods?

1) Okay, let me phrase it a different way: How would Kiril react if Lucien killed every single one of his ghouls and made him watch?

2) You wanted Barabus. The point was most certainly not to kill Sandor XD

1) you mean like Sandor just did?

2) the point was to make sure I know better than to ask for things?
I wanted Barabus; you made me slog through this whole quest  so you could make me watch an unbeatable NPC kill him in front of me?

The picture won't load on the device I'm presently stuck with, so I'll just have to assume that you're the badass Sigourney Weaver-Margaret Thatcher-looking amalgamation in your profile pic for now.

That's Carol from Walking Dead. XD

Awesome, thanks y'all. ^_~

And in case anyone's still curious...

The six-year-old was my style consultant on what I told her was a "cute goth" look. She's loved gothic fashion since she was four or five -- never to wear herself, of course. HER favorite color is hot pink, second favorite is purple. But she 'encourages' everyone to dress according to THEIR favorite color. ;D

Anyway, that's me. And Haven's actually tonight, so, yeah. Gonna goth it up AGAIN, dance a little, and figure out who's who in that scene right now. It's been a while.

I don't think I've seen that, actually: goth but in princess colors? That could be a thing.

Love the sleeves on that top.

I agree with playa.  I understand the idea they're trying to sell, "the group always needs one person (Shane, Merle) who can be the pragmatic one and do the morally dark things that we need to survive so that the rest of the group can stay idealistic (Glenn, Maggie) but I can't be that person anymore" and it's a good idea, that could be a good story-- but I think dropping on Carol out of nowhere is a mistake.

Both because it does seem to come really abruptly, and because Carol was a good character in her own right, and it does feel like rather than advancing character development, they're retracting it.
