Title: Origins and GenCon 2009
Post by: BerkaZerka on January 06, 2009, 10:19:37 am
Origins and GenCon 2009

Hi all – I just wanted to let everyone know early that we will be at both Origins and GenCon 2009.

This will be a great opportunity to play the game with the author (yours truly) and those that helped create it.

For Origins, I will be running 4 – 6 BHB Sessions and have hardcopies of the rules available for special convention only discounted sales.

For Gencon, I will be running at least 2 BHB Sessions, with a friend and fellow playtester running another 2 – 4, and of course will again have hardcopies of the rules available for more special convention only discounted sales.

Keep an eye out on the Origins and GenCon websites, as I will be submitting my events soon – which in the past, they have all filled up in three days or less, so be ready  ;D

There is a slim chance I will be at Gen Con myself... so if I and JP days cross I may sit in on one of those games...:)

Free Swag

I'm going to be giving away special 2009 Origins and Gencon editions of the Adventures that we are going to be running at the conventions.  These will be handed out at the tables after each game  ;D

Phew – my schedule for Origins looks pretty full!  If all of my events are excepted, I’ll be running 10 events (7 of which are BHB)  ;D

OK, after having some sense slapped into me by my wife  ;) - I've decided that the above schedule might be a little too much for me to pull off - so I'm going with 9 events (6 BHB)  :)

ok, so I've been doing some planning concerning Origins. The best deal I can get flight-wise is:

arrival time to Columbus, OH: Wed, 2:20 pm
Leaving Sun 5:00 pm

Can anyone give me some information concerning hotels or can anyone spare some floor room in return for at least 1/3 of the room price?

Indeed! I gladly take generics for any open seats. I'm planning it for 6 players, but I'll make up a 7th just in case. Can't go over that though. I'm still too green of a DM!! So that means you're just gonna HAVE to get there  :D

You'll like Origins. It's not so big and hectic as GC. All the RPG's are located in the convention center in easy to find rooms. Everything is closer and it's much easier to get some downtime to relax.
I really hope that GenCon will someday be able to have the majority of it's games located in one or two places rather than spread all over like 3 city blocks.

Hey, guys. Long time lurker, first time poster.
Picked up BHB from IPR not long ago and was very impressed with it. Anime style fun, accessable system, fast and easy to get into.

Just got registered for GenCon, and signed up for two games, Zombies on Wed and Psychics Fri morning.
Looking forward to gaming with the people behind the game itself.
And maybe if it's not too fanboyish, getting my book signed.

Quick question:

How long before we get some hexslinging in our BHB?

Thanks.

Hi blackheart and welcome to the Comlink :)

It’s great to hear that folks are not only signing up for our games, but are taking a look over here at the Forums.  Check the place out and let us know what you think – I’m sure you’ll find something worthwhile.  Also feel free to add your own ideas or suggestions.

For GenCon, do you mean Thursday and Saturday for your games?

The ‘Did Somebody Say Zombies?’ game will be run by my good friend Jay Pietkiewicz, who helped playtest the heck out of the game in its development.  He’s also running ‘Fortune Cookie Fix’.

I’ll be running The two ‘Operation A.P.E.’ games, as well as ‘Ghost In The Machine’, and ‘Velociraptor Rhapsody’.

I’ll be more than happy to sign books and will also be at the Indie Press Revolution booth (not sure when yet) at some point during the Con.  We also have some decent swag in the works to hand out at our games :)

For your Bounty Head Bebop games, you can make and bring your own character, or simply pick one out of the Archetypes (http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=59839&filters=0_0_0_0&manufacturers_id=2550) (Free on RPGNow.com) an jump right in.

As for the Hexslinging, it will be rolled into our Fantasy Worlds Supplement, which will include Fantasy Bebop, Suggestions for Modern Fantasy, the Hexslinging system, and Monsters.  If you read through the Updates As They Happen (http://www.bountyheadbebop.com/forum/index.php?topic=30.0) thread, you’ll see more information on it’s development.

Anyway – welcome – let me know if you have any other questions :)

Bringing Your Own BHB Characters To Origins and GenCon 2009

For those signed up for our Bounty Head Bebop games at Origins and GenCon 2009, feel free to make and bring in your own characters, or simply pick one out of the Archetypes Packet (http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=59839&filters=0_0_0_0&manufacturers_id=2550) (Free on RPGNow.com) and jump right in.

Either way, we will be taking a few minutes at the start of each game session to tweak and modify characters to suite, including (for some games) spending extra XP to build base characters up to the level of the adventure.

Here’s a rundown of what you’ll want for each Session:

Ghost In The Machine
Inexperienced characters work well here.  You can take an Archetype and go with it, or add some Flaws for additional Edges.  For game balance, specialized weapons and/or equipment may or may not be granted depending upon the request.

Operation A.P.E.
Characters in this game get 8–10 additional XP to spend, and we’ll have a Shopping Spree (http://www.bountyheadbebop.com/forum/index.php?topic=59.0) prior to the adventure to try for some of the heavier weapons and/or equipment.

Did Somebody Say Zombies?
Characters in this game get 12–15 additional XP to spend.  For game balance, specialized weapons and/or equipment may or may not be granted depending upon the request.

Fortune Cookie Fix
As I am not running this event, it is up to the GM (Jay Pietkiewicz), though for his reference, the adventure was written for about 16–20 XP characters.

Velociraptor Rhapsody
Characters in this game get 20–25 additional XP to spend.  For game balance, specialized weapons and/or equipment may or may not be granted depending upon the request – though a ‘Ship’s Stores’ list of goodies will be provided to properly outfit the characters at the start of the adventure.

Also Note
Players signed up for more than one game are welcome to use the same character more than once.  In this case, they can keep their XP bumps, but will be restricted on weapons and/or equipment, per the requisites of the adventures in question – no, you can’t take your flamethrower and military flak jacket from Velociraptor Rhapsody with you to your Ghost in The Machine game  ;)

Any questions about building your characters, feel free to ask here, or in the Character Creation Help (http://www.bountyheadbebop.com/forum/index.php?topic=47.0) thread :)

JP, do you have your booth # yet for where you'll be at GenCon? I wanna look at the exhibit hall map and see where you are.

Yes, I know, haven't posted in a long time. Right now I'm frantically trying to get my Conan game ready to playtest it at a mini-con this sunday. I'm such a slacker!'
It sold out at GenCon!! Gotta make sure I bring my A game.

We’ll be at the Indie Press Revolution booth, # 2139 – though I will be limited as to when I can be at the booth myself, due to game running commitments.  As it stands, they know I’ll be popping in from time to time to help out when I can.

As for your game, good luck – but I know you’ll do fine.  I enjoyed the games you’ve ran in the past – even the vampire larp – and that’s saying something, because I’ve decided that I don’t care for the majority of larps I’ve tried out ;)

It looks like Lori and I might be getting in on Thursday, rather than Friday.  If we get there with time, we might pop in to see how your game goes (or play, if any of your seats fail to show).

I’m thinking of trying to run a pickup game at GenCon of Fantasy BHB – ala Pirate adventure in the world of Conan the Barbarian.  The adventure is called

Bane Treasure of The Vampire King.

I may also bring my Cthopoly – Call of Cthulhu Monopoly game – where you trade in Cultists, Dark Gods, and Sanity rather than properties and money.

Anyone got any advice for getting a pickup game off the ground?  Don’t they have a section devoted to pick up games?

Yes, there is an open gaming area usually in one of the hotels. Also post on the Gencon forum that you're looking to run a pickup game, and what time/date you're looking to do it. That will help drum up interest. I'm not sure if they have come out and announced which hotel has the open gaming area, but right before the con it should be posted and it's usually in the book. It's usually one of the main connected ones - hyatt or marriot I think.

OK, I know that the con is right around the corner because I had THE DREAM last night.

You know...the one where you're running your event and everything goes wrong. I forgot my battle map tiles, only 3 people showed up and 2 of them left, then a group of like 12 all wanted to fill the empty seats...5 of my friends showed up and kept giving me hugs and wanting to talk....madness!!!

So yeah....once I have the dream I know it's so close I can smell it. smells like mountain dew and feet.....

Can't wait to see you guys.  :D

I think we can arrange something. After all we'll be home for the entire week after GenCon. If we don't get your company for at least ONE of those evenings then something is very wrong and you may have to be punished.
So here's your heads up...you have about 4 months to make arrangements for you and the little woman to escape the house for at least one evening.  ;)

Excellent, I think that can be arraigned - We'll have to play my Cthopoly game as well - Cthulhu-based Monopoly, where Azathoth circles the board and guarantees the game won't last longer than an hour or two max.

Cincinnati actually, but I pretend (albeit terribly) to have accents from all over. My irish and russian faux accents are the best I think. ;)

I told my buddy about cthopoly and he nearly wet himself with excitement. He's a huge Lovecraft fan. Like, majorly.

We're definately in, especially since we decided to stay at a nearby hotel rather than drive back to Cinci like we had planned on Friday night.

So late night gaming on Friday is in!

Looks like we can do something after 10 pm on friday.  Cthopoly can be done in an hour (two if you really want to)  ;D

azhrei331 - if you and the misses can't do friday, we always got the after-con get-together up here in the old stomping grounds  :)

Bounty BaboonBill  - Four players will make as good a game as six - so we're good even if azhrei331 and FaePooka can't make it :)

We'll have to determine where and when to meet - Probably at the open game table area or a free table in the area after I run my friday night BHB game (Operation A.P.E. in Hyatt Studio 6:2)...

How about planning to meet at the table where I will be running BHB on friday night (Operation A.P.E. in Hyatt Studio 6:2 - ends at 10:00pm) - that or the open table section - wherever that will be...

I can't seem to figure out how to access that ass-backward system to check my gaming schedule for the 2 days we'll be there, so i don't know which of your BHB games we'll crash..

If you log into your account, and then hit the "your tickets" link at the top it will show you a list of all event tickets you purchased and their time/place info.

You should also still be able to search the event database, you just cannot purchase anything.

I'd crash your friday night game....but I have a prior commitment to fry my braincells with a combination of pun-filled 1st edition dnd and alcohol.    :D
