Title: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening
Post by: Forge on January 26, 2015, 01:36:15 pm
The day before was a long one. Your squad had been out on late evening training in the forests to the West and had gotten back to base well after dark. A quick meal was provided then straight to bed at lights-out.

You had been sleeping well until you feel the entire base suddenly shudder and hear a loud booming noise. You might normally panic but they often run drills in the scorpion at night and some of it's ammo can be really loud if it hits nearby. You roll over slightly and try to return to sleep when you hear several more loud booms and the base sirens go off. A loud undulating wailing assaults your ears before it settles down to a steady volume. Red emergency lights kick in above you bed as the base speaker system crackles to life.

"Evacuate the base. This is not a Drill. Evacuate the base." blurts out before they go silent again.

Your training kicks in and you follow the procedure ingrained in you from all of your drills. 'Dress, regroup, move-out'. You leap out of your bed and quickly grab your uniform from the locker and pull it on, shoving your smallest valuables into the pockets. You keep feeling and hearing explosions and vibrations in the floor. Some seem close while others are faint. You think you hear an AR blasting out a violent staccato against the backdrop of the constant sirens wail but you can't be sure.

Your cloak reads 3.02am. You slip your key-card over your head and check your cubicle, nothing left you can carry. You hit the door release button and step into the central corridor of Dorm A. you look up and down the corridor to try and assess the situation. The other members of your 8 man squad are spilling out of their own cubicles. There is no movement at the 10 rooms on the Western end of the dorm, nearest the courtyard. There is a second squad in dorm A with you but there is no sign of them now. Glancing to the East of the Dorm, you see the small communal area and computer station empty along with the corridors connecting to Dorm B and the gym. The doors to the central courtyard, dorm B and the Gym are all shut.

You know there are several evacuation and extraction points around the base. 'Alpha' is to the North-West in a clearing. 'Bravo' is North East in a flat section of the Rocky training area. 'Charlie' is the Dock in the lake to the South East and Delta is an area of grassland just South of the Western Forest. You also know that in the last three months, increasing numbers of small colonies have been totally wiped out by the 'Covenant' a newly discovered alien race who you have only been taught limited details of.

Steve "Drakalicious" Smith looks about himself, searching for the other students.

All 8 members of Steve's Squad are now visible and in the corridor with him, there is still no sign of the other squads cadets.

Steve feels concerned - he remembers something exactly like this happening during his last math exam.

"Hey guys, you have any idea where everyone else went?"

"Hey guys, you have any idea where everyone else went?"

OOC: It immediately occurs to both Jackson and Nina that the other squad had mentioned something about night training today so wouldn't be due back till dawn (Roughly 6am) They are free to respond with this info as they please.

Nina looks at the puny man.

"The othar squads went on a night training. They are not here, marine buddy Steve." Nina states.

"Huh, guess that explains it. Thanks Nina. Hey, you guys think we should get some weapons, maybe our training suits? If we're evacuating, it might not be safe out there.

Steve also tries to remember protocol in case of an evacuation (if there is one).

OOC: He remembers the very basic protocol. Get dressed, regroup with your squad then move out. further action is to be determined upon realization of the threat. Either gear up at the armory then head for evac zone or head right for evac zone. Cadets are not expected to engage enemy combatants.

Not expected maybe, but we might not have a choice.

"Yeah, I think we should head for the armory. I don't like being helpless, and if something goes wrong - and it always does - I think we should be ready."

Nina nods.
"I like weapons, squad buddy." She states, nodding. "What say the rest? To weapons?" She asks the others in the group

"But, that's not protocol!" Jackson objects.  "We're supposed to wait and see what the threat is before heading to the armory.  We might be supposed to go right to evacuate!"

"Well let's make a choice then." One of the other cadets begins "standing here is worse than making the wrong choice isnt it?"

Drakalicious nods.

"I'll be going then. You can come if you want."

Thus he takes off towards the armory.

The others shrug and nod and they all head to the western dorm door. Drackalicious heads out first and immediatly hears somthing to his right.

It's a cadet squad from dorm B. As the squad files out everyone sees the Dorm B squad pausing. they turn to our protagonist. "We are heading to the armoury, then to evacuate, you should join us!"

The don't wait and begin jogging out into the courtyard to cut across.
Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening
Post by: Drakilian on January 29, 2015, 11:12:21 pm
Drakalicious calls out to them - "Wait, the courtyard is a very open area - it's safer to travel through the halls!"

If they don't listen to him, well, he'll probably mourn their terrible terrible deaths later. He continues through the corridors.
Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening

Nina looks to the squad, and then at Drakilicious, and then at her squad.
"Corridors we go!" She announces, running on, carefully.
Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening
Post by: Forge on January 29, 2015, 11:57:16 pm
Drackalicious and Nina manage a few steps forward after it becomes clear that the other squad isn't listening to them and are level with the glass doors into the courtyard. This means they have a very clear view when The dorm B squad takes the brunt of the ambush. The rest of the team can also see through the large glass windows lining the entire central courtyards surrounding corridors.

The first thing they see is a single pretty beam of blue light appearing right through two of their front runners who were in single file, they half flip back in the air with what looks like steam coming out of holes in their chests as other fire rains down on the rest of the squad, killing one more and wounding 1 before they can even react. The team only sees some strange glowing lights on the roof above the courtyard.

They see, at about the same time, bolts of bright light coming from the main academy entranceway as 4 small aliens run into courtyard firing wildly at squad B only one shot hits and another cadet from dorm B falls, screaming in pain with obvious burns on his arm.

Jackson notices a dead marine at the feet of the grunts.

Drakalicious briefly looks at the carnage.

Nope

He then ditches, running back to the dorm areas.

He whispers to everyone before running - "I think we should probably go through the combat training area - this place sucks!"

The rest of the squad, as if on cue, come plowing inside and seal the door behind them. One takes the time to lock the door before running after Drackalicious.

He reaches the computer area and the corridor leading to the Dorm B to the North and the Gym to the South.

"Again?!  Why?! Whyyyyyyy?!!!" Jackson screams in anguish, then realizes he didn't actually know the dead guys all that well, and pulls himself together.

"Isn't this the computer area?  Should we at least check the internet to see if there's anything at all we can use?"

Will, being the resident Techy guy immediately leaps forward. "Finally my moment to shine!" he announces as the jumps into the chair and begins logging on by flashing his keycard at the screen. "What do you guys want me to try and find out about? The base? Enemies? whats happening right now? I'm a totally pro hacker you know!"

The computer flashes to life  ready to go

"Yes!" Jackson says, then elaborates.  "All those things.  Those would all be really good things to know about."

"On it Boss!" Will announces as he tries to gather as much information as possible. After a few seconds of things wizzing around the holo screen he replies. "Ok info on the enemies is pretty scarce, everything apart from what we received last month is locked down hard (See enemy info thread) as for right now... they had no idea we were going to be hit, reports barely on the web yet, everything military is going through the encrypted com channels, we need to get our helmets or military radio to tap in, I think they hit the town to the South at the same time as us though, several carriers there. As for the base... There is something not right here... I thought I was getting info then it all vanished on me..."

The computer crackles and shuts down as the lights flicker in the dorm. "Freeking power surge just fried this comp" he says as he gets up again.

"So we should get off planet as soon as possible then?"
Mik says as he looks around for anything that could be used to stop a plasma weapon.

Mik thinks through what he knows and tries to apply his knowledge of Superheated-plasma to the items lying around. Despite sound and careful reasoning the only thing he can think of is that he could hold a large chair or table up in front of him to take the initial hit, however he knows that it would then most likely burst into flames and successive shots would probably go through it. There is nothing else in the area that might be useful as armor right now.

Drackalicious heads North to the door to dorm B and walks right through without bothering to peek ahead or anything despite knowing that there are rampaging aliens loose in the base right now.

Luckily there are none currently visible as he enters Dorm B.

The rest of the group follows him in as they do not see him die in a hail of plasma. Everyone is now in an identical dorm to the one before, they are all now in dorm B's computer and seating area. Looking left everyone sees the long corridor ending in the door to the courtyard where some of the group just watched another squad of cadets getting slaughtered in the twilight of the central courtyard. It was almost beautiful, the way the bright plasma lit up the darkness before it burned and killed their fellow cadets.

They see that the door to the courtyard has not been locked, in fact none of the doors in dorm B are locked. They also notice that only half the lockers here seem to have been opened and there is no sign of Dorm B's second squad either.

Drackalicious is heading North toward the door into the combat training area, everyone else is standing in the dorm seating area waiting to see if he dies.

The soft wailing of the emergency alarms continues and the cadets keep hearing explosions at varying intervals.

With none of the other cadets making a move Drakalicious opens the door then pokes his head through to the other side to check if the coast is clear.

Indeed he sees nothing immediatly hostile there and while Will is unwilling to be the first through the door Cadet 'Rouge Chamise' Steps up and heads out onto the viewing balcony. After a few seconds of looking around he goes up to the blast glass which encircles the entire central sunken area and calls back.

"Guys get out here now! You've gotta see this!"

Derek and Drackalicious head out first, followed by a couple of others. They all immediatly see what Rouge was indicating. There is a full on battle happening down in the training area.

They do not make out specific details but it seems like covenant have blasted a hole in the east wall and and pushing forward against a small group of marines in the North West corner of the room. The room is set to rest mode so there is little cover or defence for the Mariners. All the cadets realize they could watch in more detail from the Sim room and possibly affect the rooms layout, though they have never controlled it before.

All of the cadets realize the urgency of the situations and run over to the Sim room where they can assess things properly. They pile in, the automatic doors closing behind them and they see everything on the monitors clearly.

The East wall has indeed been breached. Looks like it was blasted in with some form of plasma explosive due to the scorch marks. To theNorth West there are 5 fully geared up marines or cadets fighting for their lives but there is little to no cover for them and 3 more already lie dead near them.

Closing in on them are the Aliens, using their superior numbers and the lack of cover to overwhelm. 5 of the short ones with the bulbous tail (Grunts), 3 of the lithe fast ones (jackals) 2 of them carrying strange glowing shields in their arms, and 1 Elite using what looks like an automatic plasma weapon. The elite appears to be concentrating more on directing the others though.
Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening
Post by: Drakilian on January 31, 2015, 09:06:22 pm
Drakalicious looks at the odds and realizes that these marines aren't likely to survive.

"One or two of us has to stay here and man the simulation room controls, try to give the marines as much time as possible while the rest of us get to the armory. They won't win, even if we help them out with the sim controls they don't stand a chance against these guys unless we can back them up with real, killing weapons."

As he speaks, he tries to use the simulation controls to make it seem as if the doors have just opened and marine reinforcements (all armed with melee weapons - so that there's an excuse for why they don't just all immediately shoot the aliens to death) have arrived to help the ones currently trapped inside. - two groups of 10 people. If the aliens fire on the marines he would try to make it seem as if they were hit and injured/killed.

Post by: Forge on January 31, 2015, 09:30:14 pm
Drackalicious jumps into a controls seat and since he has never used this system before... Basically begins hitting random things with appropriate names. Some weird noises happen and it looks like the system might actually crash until he is literally shoved out of the way by Will who takes his seat while saying "Dude seriously, the computer illiterate need to not touch the military grade hardware ok? Leave it to the techs?" Will quickly gets to work (and spends a luck to boost his success to an extra success).

In moments the system around them announces. "Close combat Smoke Screen Training. Do not enter the field while adaption is active." The room instantly begins to change, cover appearing out of the ground, walls and floor to form a labyrinth, one all cadets are very familiar with, first years spend weeks in this set-up training. As things change the previously beleaguered marines wave at a camera, Only Nina recognizes the signal however as "provide distraction" the other thinking they just waved their thanks.

The team in the Sim room see the Marines put their training to use, they know the layout and where holographic and board target will pop out but the Covenant don't so while the Marine's take up field dominating positions, the covenant are entirely flat footed, smoke suddenly pumping in from seemingly random vents in the floor only makes things worse for the Aliens, only the Elite appears to have any idea what is happening.

Will stands up again. "Right, that scenario will run for half an hour on auto now, and I'd bet my life on the marines winning, they have a mix of weaponry down there and they know everything that will happen." He grins at the others, clearly wanting praise, kind of like a puppy.

"Well Will, get on it! Simulate an explosion or something to the left, or reinforcements, or a big mecha-dragon just appearing out of nowhere, pooping explosive lava all over the battlefield!"

With these suggestions being given, Drakalicious leaves the simulation room, entering the corridor where he could go to get into the armory - listening carefully for any enemies or allies alike.

"It doesn't work that easily, I'd have to reset the scenario and program it all in then restart it, that would be bad for the marines." Will replies looking skeptically at the controls. Will, along with Rouge and co. Wait to see what the others do and if Drackalicious dies horribly before acting.

Nina's loud pronouncement and gesture actually manages to catch one of the Jackal's eye due to their heightened senses. It lets out a chattering noise and indicates the group standing in the nice well lit sim controls room.

The elite roars and gestures (Surges the Jackal) and the Jackal fires its rifle type weapon at the Sim room.

The group barring Drackalicious who is heading out of the room, see what looks like a shard of crystal shatter off the glass, giving off a slight amount of strange energy, 3 grunts and the elite also now pay attention to the party.

It looks like they have split the enemies attention and made the distraction the marienes needed. With the blast glass in place they also know they don't need to fear anything weaker then a repeated bazooka assault on them.

Rouge immediatly agrees "It's my time to shine! My parents said keep to the back and take a desk job but I shall fufill my duty to Earth as my ancestors before me who all died gloriously in battle!"

He runs through the door to the corridor read for battle.

He finds it empty. He quickly pats his chest then shrugs. He turns to the group heartbroken "All clear guys."

Explosions sound out from the training area alongside the bursts of Battle rifle fire and full automatic of the Assult rifle. A glance behind shows bright green bolts of light hitting the glass of the controls room, spawning arcs of green energy to skip across it but barely damaging it.

The team turn their back on the scene and run with almost reckless abandon toward the Armory, it is lucky that they have Jackson with them as their team medic, his goal is to keep them all safe. It might have been this aim which allowed him to spot what every single other team-mate failed.

It's tricky to see from down the corridor but the Armory door has been destroyed, there are scotch marks on the frame and signs of melted metal on the floor. He also notes the other warning signs at the entrance to the other rooms around them. The group is just past the officer quarters and Admin dorms when he grabs their sleeves and gestures at the doors.

He urgently whispers to them "look at the doors, all smashed clean in. THEY are here"

Derek gets convinced to try and peek into one room while Rouge heads for the other side of the corridor. Derek's going to peek into the officers quarters while rouge is peeking into the Admin dorms.

Derek edges close and peeks around the corner, he immediatly sees Two Alien grunts playing around with some junk on the floor. He sees two dead officers with M6 pistols beside them on the ground. He also spots that there are 3 lockers, open but with gear and possibly weapons still inside. One grunt is clearly trying to understand a clipboard and notices nothing. The other twitches and looks around but Derek gets his head back before it is too late.

Across the corridor Rouge... Trips and stumbles right into the Admin dorm, luckily he sees no enemies and signals the all clear to the group. It has clearly been ransacked but no enemies are present

The team gives eachother goodbyes hugs then rushes into the Officers Quarters with Rouge taking the lead. They all see what was seen before, two grunts playing around with stuff while standing beside two dead officers. The stairs up a floor are to their left and the stairs down to their right.

They take the grunts totally by surprise and all they manage to do is flail their arms in the air and let out a cute sounding cry of surprise. Both are flat footed. One gets a single turn in the second round, the other misses it entirely.

Combat has begun, you are all within a few feet of the grunts. Ranged attack is will be dealt as ranged or you can step in and CC only using 1 action as the ambush lets you close distance if desired.

Drackalicious charges first, trying to  trip one of the grunts to make it easier on his team. Sadly he is thrown off by the creatures strange anatomy and just kind of lightly kicks its tail as it fails in panic. Will then makes his move and charges in to take a swing, missing by inches.

Jackson however, undeterred by the fact the little alien wasn't tripped, leaps right onto its back and pins it down for easy punches by all as well as the damage done already from the pin. Un-named cadet sucks and trips over his own foot before rouge dives for a gun, trying to be cool... And fumbles it having dived too far.

Nina moves next and also has her punch dodged by the still standing grunt. It leaps to the side just as she swings... Landing right in front of Mik who lands a solid right hook to its jaw. Derek grabs up a pistol.

The pinned grunt has no moves and is pinned anyway, the standing grunt seems too scared to react, both already seem in bad shape despite the teams mostly failed assault.

As the next Round of combat begins, things move quickly. Most of the party has closed into CC range and Drackalicious moves immediately to increase odds in their favor by stamping repeatedly on the pinned grunts head. Jackson sees the small weak alien he has completely immobile and helpless on the floor being brutally killed inches from his face. How he reacts to this only he knows for now.

There is a slight lull at the brutal and lethal action where the team is sure that something very strange happens. Every single person is sure they hear a tiny distraught voice speaking in English and saying "He was my best friend" the sadness in the voice is heart-wrenching.

The team is sure aliens cannot speak English though right? And surely it couldn't have been the other Grunt right? As if to banish these questions from their minds the team closes in. Will, Rouge and Nina start punching the second grunt brutally. Mik joins in with an extra swing and as they step back the grunt is un-moving on the floor. They cannot immediately tell if it is dead or just gravely wounded however they can clearly see it wont be going anywhere for a long time.

Derek spins round in style with his freshly grabbed pistol and sees no more enemies so instead looks around. 2 marine officer bodies and two Grunt bodies lie on the floor. beside them are two plasma pistols and 1 more M6 pistol. The locker look like some might have gear and possibly weapons inside them.

This said, Drakalicious scoops down to pick up a plasma pistol.

"You see this? You see this gun right here? What do you think it's for? Do you think it's a goddamn decoration?!"

He points the gun to an empty wall and then fires.

"This is meant to kill! This is meant to kill other living beings, and they were carrying these guns, and I bet you that if we gave them anything approaching a chance they would have used them on us. We're alive because they're dead, if you have a problem with that then you can go ahead and let the next group kill you."

Derek, Drackalicious and Nina now have a full set of combat Armour. If they swipe their cards near the helmet they can link their comms direct to their fireteam line or they can do it manually. (No more armor)

Derek has a pistol and offers Jackson the Assault rifle
Drackalicious has a plasma pistol
Nina has the second AR
there is one pistol and one plasma pistol remaining on the floor, Jackson can accept or refuse the AR from Derek

Drackalicious took a single Vit point of damage from Jackson's attack as Jackson's heart wasn't really into causing him real damage.

As the team organize their new gear, Drackalicious attempts to fire his pistol into the wall. First he needs to work out how to use it. After a moment he realizes that he must hold his thumb over the little hologram to release the 'safety' then pull the trigger to fire it.

He feels the heat from the plasma bolt as he fires it, the colored orb blasts into the wall leaving scorch marks and sending chips of the wall flying around it as green arcs of lightning dance around the impact point for a few seconds. The entire team notes that they REALLY do not want to get hit with super-heated plasma.

As that realization sinks in Drackalicious hears a noise from the staircase up to the next floor. It sounds entirely alien, and it sounds both big and pissed off.

There is still 1 pistol and 1 plasma unclaimed on the floor.

The other cadets also dive behind the sparse cover available in the room and all manage Partial-cover at best.

The see something turn the corner and what is easily recognizable as an 'Elite' stomp down to the base of the stairs. Over 8 foot tall, wearing blue armor and carrying what is clearly a bigger weapon than the grunts had, it pretty much immediately spots the dead grunts and lets out a loud roar. The team sees it's bottom jaw split open revealing its teeth. It is clearly pissed off now and ready for battle, a noise from the floor above responds to the roar.

As the Ambush begins, the un-named friend of Rouge realizes that all the cadets ran into hiding leaving two perfectly usable weapons on the floor! He runs out into the open, grabbing up the Human M6 pistol to use on the Elite.

The Elite however is not Dumb, he sees what is going on and would have blasted the foolish cadet apart had the others not acted at the same moment.

Drackalicious releases his charge blot of plasma just as the elite begins reacting to the the un-named cadet. he watches almost in slow motion as the elites movement takes it out of the the path of the large plasma bolt. He knows in his heart that he has missed the shot. Then he watches it actually curve in the air as the elite tries to dodge and explodes an inch from the Elites face.

The entire team sees a shimmering coat of purple light fluctuate around the Elite as green arcs of lightning run over it in every direction. Suddenly it pops like a balloon, the Elite falls back a step and seems to be temporarily blinded by the plasma hitting right in front of its face.

Derek opens up with his pistol, blasting into the Elites Chest, Will Tries to pretend that he isn't there, Rouge thinks it best to stay half-hidden for now. Mik thinks the same thing and stays in cover.

Jackson and Nina then Open fire with the Assault rifles on the reeling Elite. Both burst fire their ARs right into the elite (You didn't specify firing type so I selected burst) and see their bullets hit the enemy cleanly.

There is blood, it's not the same colour as human blood, but they are pretty sure it is bleeding and the Elite is clearly wounded, but it is not dead and is still fighting.

The Elite lets our a huge roar of anger, their race, especially the warriors does not submit so easily. He burns a surge to ignore the effects of the temporary blindness put on him and burns a luck on his roll to give him a critical success. He opens fire with his weapon on the Un-named Cadet  who ran out to get a gun.

The team watches beautiful blue bolts of light spray out of his plasma rifle right into the cadet. They then watche him get knocked backwards off his feet and fall onto his back, his entire chest turned into a steaming black ruin.

Drackalicious then fires his pistol again in its normal mode, seeing the green bolt of light hitting the Elite cleanly this time, no shielding left to help it. Derek Also opens fire with his pistol as he does a side diving commando roll shooting one handed like he saw in that movie one time. He sees his bullets pierce right through the weakened armor where the plasma had just hit. The Elite falls backwards clearly now dead. Derek arrives beside Jackson who is only just dropping the AR.

Derek makes his run, leaving the AR on the ground beside Jackson and grabs up the Covenant weapon like a child on Christmas. He begins fiddling with it, but as Drackalicious has yet to tell anyone else about how he worked the plasma pistol, he has no immediate success. Mik fails the grab at the pistol but does see the un-claimed plasma pistol on the ground just a few feet away.

Drackalicious and Jackson jog over to examine the Elites corpse, sparing barely a glance at the other Cadet who may have still been alive, lying in the middle of the room. Drackalicious remembers that he is in fact on the ground floor of the officers quarters right now, hence the dead officers, and the officers lockers with weapons inside them, but he pretends like nothing happened and hopes no-one else mentions it. Will grabs up the fallen pistol as Rouge claims the dropped AR.

As they reach the body they see that it is very similar in many ways to humans, just with Blue blood. Flesh over bone, similar anatomical structure. the other thing they notice os the effect of the weapons on it. the bullets did much as they would to a human. dents and scars in the armor and holes in the flesh. The plasma however is very different. Jackson finally thinks he can sum up the effect of the plasma weapons on biological beings like humans:

Injuries inflicted to a victim can include severe third-degree burns. The Plasma shot by the weapon can instantly cauterize wounds upon impact. Adjacent body fluids are subjected to flash vaporization, inducing a strain or a shock on the body after impact, and the trapping of fluids in organs or blood vessels in addition to the rapid expansion of heat can cause ruptures or small explosions within the victim. Repeated hits can cause 4th degree burns where flesh is literally incinerated away leaving exposed and charred bone.

Derek then finally works out about holding a thumb permanently over the holographic symbol thingy to act as releasing the safely before pulling the thing vaguely resembling a trigger. He looks up to tell the rest of the team what he worked out when a slight noise behind him causes him to spin around, Drakalicious finds two strange purple balls on the elite's belt as he also hears it and looks up.

A Grunt is turning the corner of the stairs with a plasma pistol already beginning to charge, it seems like the noise they heard was the weapon starting it's charge cycle.

The Grunt has rounded the corner ready to fire it's charged plasma pistol when it sees it's fallen commander, brutally slain at the base of the stairs. It surprisingly passes its will check and resolutely plans to keep fighting until an enemy comes leaping towards it screaming like a blood crazed Kig-Yar after a wounded comrade. It immediately breaks and flees combat, firing its plasma off into the ceiling in it's panic. (Derek's action forced the flee so the grunt ignored init order and fled right away)

Now everything is the same as before but no visible grunt on the stairs, Derek half way up the bottom half of the stairs and Drackilicious is lying on the ground.

Mik grabs up the plasma pistol from the floor and successfully realizes that the safety is permanently on and only releases once his thumb is held over a weird hologram, then goes back on the second his thumb moves.

The others take time to discuss their next move while Jackson checks on Rouge's friend, sadly finding him very dead, the entire front of his chest burnt down to the bone with his internal organs partly visible and fried or burnt. the only thing Jackson finds on him is a picture of a girl around their age.

As the group talks they notice noise on the stairs again as two more grunts appear round the corner, running down towards them. They cannot tell is one is the same as the one before.

Rouge
Grunt 2

Jackson
Grunt 1

Grunt 4

As the two grunts come down the stairs, the party reacts quickly, Drackalicious moves back behind his partial cover as he takes aim at one of the grunts and releases his charged plasma bolt. It flies out, but at the last second it ducks out of the way and the bolt doesn't seem to curve at it like it did with the elite. The plasma pistol then springs open with its cooling vents pumping out air as hot as steam, Drackalicious, caught by surprise manages to dodge getting badly burnt but drops the pistol at his own feet.

Derek acts the same way but on the other side of the stairs, he moves behind cover and opens up with a torrent of fire (Taking this to mean a full auto) at the grunts on the stairs. A stream of blue plasma blasts out of the gun but Derek has not mastered how to use this particular weapon yet and the bolts miss both grunts by inches, one falls to the ground after dodging while the other keeps it's feet, still ready to fire.

Seeing the predicament they are in now, Will decides that despite being a tech, he has to step-up and take out some aliens. He spends a luck to ensure success and opens fire with his pistol, nailing the little alien clean in the... sort of ... vaguely chest type of area... he thinks. Blue blood comes out though so he knows he scored a clean hit. He then tries to make himself as small as possible behind cover.

Grunt three then takes his cue, but is currently lying on the floor so quickly gets to his feet and opens fire with his plasma pistol. the one who stole his commanders gun is clearly the best target so that is who he shoots at. he opens fire at Derek who is trying to hide behind a small crate that isn't big enough to cover his body, the plasma flies right at him and hits the box right in front of his face, just giving him time to duck, Derek knows that if he hadn't been in cover, that was going to get him in the head.

Rouge then opens fire with the AR he had taken after Jackson dropped it, firing twice, once at each grunt. He misses the first but hits a burst of fire clean into the un-injured grunt and watches it stagger back, clearly wounded.

The second grunt then finally gets to act, firing at the weird thing that just injured it, he fires at Will, barely missing the cadet. Will feels the heat of the bolt passing a few inches away from him. Mik then opens fire with the plasma pistol he had picked up. He is unsure if he would have hit the wounded grunt or not but the grunt panics, slips on its own blood and falls head first into the bolt. It doesn't move again.

Jackson runs behind cover as he does not currently have a weapon and uses his threat assessment abilities on the grunts, calling out his finding. "The grunts are clearly weaker than us individually, low accuracy and easily startled and scared. They should only be a big threat in larger groups or when lead by an Elite. The Covenant should know this, expect more of them!"

As if reacting to his pronouncement the team sees another grunt rounding the corner of the stairs and firing at Drackalicious, luckily the mention of their bad accuracy was also true and the bolt hits the floor over a foot from the Cadet.

Nina then shouts "Fire like Russian!" and opens up full auto on the two remaining grunts on the stairwell. She holds the trigger down until the clip is empty then ducks back into cover to swap clips out. One grunt is doing a great impression of Swiss Cheese while the new arrival is clearly gravely injured but still standing.

Post by: Forge on February 08, 2015, 01:38:19 pm
Drakalicious immediatly turns and runs as the Grunt rounds the corner, he dives clear as Derek once more opens up full auto on the grunt on the stairs.

The plasma pulls high but Derek knows this now and corrects perfectly, the first 6 or 7 bolts hitting the wounded grunt and blasting it back into the wall, a very crispy version of itself. The rest of the bolts take the grunt with glowing hands cleanly as well. It takes several hits before falling to the ground, dropping the glowing lights which instantly seem to bind to the other bodies on the stairs.

They then oth suddenly explode, filling the entire stairway with purple light.

As the light clears, the team sees that there is very little of anything left on the stairs, the body pieces of the grunts and elite are small charred pieces scattered around the room.

Mik keeps a careful eye out it detects no other enemies from the door, stairs up or stairs down.

Derek had not noted any particular items of clothing they were wearing or holding. Jackson notes that the stairs are scorched etc. but seem structurally sound, if coated in burnt body parts.

It seems that currently they cannot detect any other enemies in the area. Jackson begins looting the bigger body parts and a couple of the others join in, after a few moments they have found two intact plasma pistols, anything else is too damaged to count as loot.

After a few moments things pop up on the screen. "Ok Guys the evac is well underway, alien ships coming from the south in force. Looks like the marines still have control of the West of the base but the medical bay just went dark a few moments ago, could just be power out or could be they got hit."

He pauses then flicks things around a bit more "Guys there is defiantly somthing odd on this base it's..." The computer then fries just like the one before "Ok this time I saw it, it's a fail safe, there's somthing not normal on the West side of the base, uses FAR too much power and vents."

Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening

Jackson sizes up the group and decides that the three with armor on are fairly well sorted out, there are enough weapons for all even if most are smaller weapons. To be up to full strength they do need to acquire more armor and helmets, they should probably activate their helmet comms, which no-one has done, this would allow those with helms to communicate while not together.

The Armory is the best chance at more gear although the fight in the Sim room will probably be ending soon to.

Will nods in response "Yup, something is using loads of power, I was only able to even see it because of the officer level clearance then the computer fried just like the last one."

The team splits up, they have different goals in mind and it is not always bad when groups slip up to accomplish simultaneous goals.

Derek, Nina, Jackson and Mik head back to the marines (East Team)

Steve (Drackalicious) Rouge and Will head on to the Armoury in order to gain more weapons. (West Team)

The East team know they are going a very short distance back the way they came so quickly reach the door to the Sim room without incident. There are no more sounds of battle when the door slides open.

The West team however have the harder task, they are planning on sneaking past the entrance to the Admin Offices, the seating and waiting area which has a clear view of the courtyard, the corridor to the medical centre and storage room and the entrance to the dining room.

The Sneaking goes pretty well to the West, they are not overly loud but there is some debris on the ground and some noise is made when passing by it. They reach the the corridor which heads North to the storage area when Will Suddenly lets out a grunt and rises two feet off the ground. As Drackalicious and Rouge turn around they see him suspended in mid air with what appears to be a sliver of glowing energy in the shape of a sword sticking clean out of the centre of his chest, very slowly cutting upwards as his body is suspended from it. Briefly they see a shimmer behind him, somthing similar to the distortion caused by heat rising off tarmac. Rouge lets out a cry of alarm and jumps back.

Rouge and Drackalicious are now just past the corridor to the North, Will is suspended in mid air, clearly dead or close too it and the rest of the cadets are at the entrance to the Sim room, however they have heard the shout of alarm and they can also see Will's floating body.

Suddenly Will moves as he is flung aside and off the sword, slamming into the wall and slumping down, a large cauterized gash clearly visible through his chest. The shimmering effect happens again and Drackalicious and Rouge hear somthing that sounds like alien laughter as they see the disembodied sword move their way.

OOC: Init for the corridor battle is in the init thread.

Drackalicious sees Will's corpse land and slump to the floor, he is clearly very, very dead. Drackalicious pulls out one of the weird orbs he had found, and assuming it is a grenade of sorts he hits the red symbol thing and watches it start to produce a mist around his hand. He quickly throws it and watches plasma flair up around it as it flies towards the area he saw the shimmer.

He then watches it sail through thin air and bonce lightly off the wall before dropping to the floor, clearly having missed the target, but it is still going to explode so Drackalicious runs the other direction, towards the armory.

Rouge pulls out a gun and prepares to fire a spray down the corridor until they see the shimmer appearing in front of them right as the grenade goes off. The explosion from the grenade causes the shields to shimmer, revealing a tall humanoid shape for just a moment as Rouge is hit by the floating sword and is sent flying after the fleeing Drackalicious. Rouge uses a surge to ignore the massive wounds they are suffering for a turn and fires off a full auto burst at where he was standing a moment ago.

The enemies cloak shatters as the bullets scatter all over its body and it is revealed as another Elite, its shields shatter under the fire and it staggers back stunned for a moment.

To the East the team pile into the Sim room once more as Nina shouts at the blast glass, Mik hides behind a chair and Jackson uses the monitors to assess the situation. Derek keeps a look out in-case anything else enters the walkway.

Nina gets no response, it would be hard for her to be heard while in the control room without using the PA system. Jackson however quickly notes the dead Aliens and 2 living marines, once Wounded and the other tending to them. It seems the humans won the fight but at a cost. He notes that it seems safe to head down into the training area but they should probably warn the marines first in-case they are mistaken for enemies, they could also stop the simulation to make it easier.

Jackson stops the simulator, and uses the PA system to call down to the marines. "Hey, we're coming to help!"

To the West the fleeing Drackalicious spins and fires his plasma at the temporaily stunned elite, scoring a wonderful hit (I bypassed armor for you, let me know if you want a different outcome) and clearly injuring the enemy, he then bravely turns and runs away again, going right by the Armory and further down the corridor towards the sealed blast doors that lead to the generator room.

The elite lets out a roar and gives chase, ignoring the wounded Rouge to chase the more mobile enemy. This is a mistake as Rouge is able to surge again to ignore his wounds and blast into the Elites side at close range, causing blood to spray out of its multiple wounds. But it is not down yet and staggers a few steps further.

To the East the group heads down the internal staircases to the lower floor and run out to help the marines now that Jackson has hit the emergency stop on the simulation and warned the marienes that they are coming. Jackson immediatly tries to help the wounded friendly but realizes that he still hasn't picked up a med kit of any kind. The second marine runs to the wall and throws him one "Haven't you guys actually LOOKED in any room you've been through? You must have passed like 4 of these already." Jackson is able to use the Biogel and bandages to get the wounded man back to fighting condition. He has some bumps and bruises but no wounds left to cause him issue. The rest are all clearly dead.

As Jackson does his medic thing the other survivor tells his story. "We are one of the Dorm B squads, no idea where the others are. We were doing a night training Sim when the wall blew in and the alarms went off, you know what happened from there, we were just lucky it was live fire or we would have only had stun rounds. Thanks for the assist, once you guys left the balcony they turned back to us and we lost some of our advantage but getting that Sim going means we at least won the fight."

The dead cadets armor is damaged but useable and there are guns, both human and aliens scattered around the corpses.

Visible weapons: 1 BR, 3AR 1DMR, 4 plasma pistols, 1 needler,1 carbine, one plasma rifle.

Jackson's fragile psyche has once again chosen to block out all knowledge of what those kinds of weapons are.  Instead, he turns his attention to the dead, looking for anything useful.  Like undamaged helmets, for example.

Derek finds nothing more useful, a couple of damaged weapons that he knows should not be used in case of explosion. He suspects any others fell into the machinery of the Sim room.

Jackson finds 4 sets of usable gear with the helmets in tact, they have sustained minor damage and will not be quite as effective as a brand new set but they will definitely serve. He also finds 1 grenade and 3 un damaged M6 pistols still in their holsters

Seeing that the elite is almost certainly completely dead, and judging this a far enough distance to start running if the elite got too close, Drakalicious fires again with his other plasma pistol, while charging the first.

OOC: As the other group is now entirely separate from the combat, I can continue this fight without them lol

Drackalicious pulls out both plasma pistols and fires off one of them at the Elite stumbling towards him then quickly tries to begin charging the other. Luckily his first shots hit the Elite square in the chest and the beast finally collapses to the floor and stops moving.

Rouge gives a cough and relaxes back against the wall, breathing heavily.

Mik Finds that the dead marines armor is usable, and notices all the same weapons as the others. He notes that both medkit slots on the walls are now empty and there is little else of use in the room.

Jackson successfully takes one of the damaged armors and slips it on, taking a pistol and the grenade.

Drackalicious finds a strange curved device beside the elite that could easily be the swords hilt and takes it with him as he heads over to Rouge, finding that Rouge can stand but is clearly badly wounded with large burn marks on his body.

"Not yet, Blocked most of the swing with my gun I think"

Jackson's call comes through clearly to drackalicious' comms

Mik quickly takes the dog tags from the fallen and slips them into the pocket of the armor he just took off one of them, slightly damaged but still very usable. He grabs up the Battle Rifle since it is a sexyfull weapon and finds 1 spare clip to go with it. he checks several keycards but they are simple cadet key-cards and wont be of any help.

Drackalicious helps Rouge limp East back towards the others, however as they pass the Armory they hear noise inside, they move past rather stealthily but it is not enough and as they get a little further along the corridor they hear a strange chattering growl behind them. Glancing back they see an alien matching the description of a Jackal gesturing towards them. It has a large glowing circular shield on its arm. They are now halfway between the Armory door where the Jackal is and the door into the Training room.

"Rouge? How good are you with a sword?" Drakalicious says, as he whips out a plasma pistol and fires at the jackal (his other action being for defense, of course).
Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening
Post by: Forge on February 20, 2015, 04:38:44 pm
Drakalicious turns and fires his pistol, seeing his shots fly true but scatter harmlessly off the jackal's shield which it raises to cover it's entire body barring a few tiny points. The Jackal then returns fire from it's own pistol over the top of the shield, luckily missing  the pair of cadets.

Rouge then quickly replies "Not good right now!" and begins limping as fast as he can away from the enemies, he steps into the cover provided by the officers quarters doorway and returns fire down the corridor. His wounds are starting to tell on him though and his shots go wide, scattering down the corridor and not being a threat to the Jackal, or the second jackal which also moves out of the Armory and also raises it's shield.

Drakalicious also moves for cover, and begins seriously considering using surge or Born leader, though he decides against it (for now).

He begins charging his other plasma pistol while firing at Jackal 1, not really expecting it to hit. He also decides against using the sword since even if it would make it harder for the Jackals to hit him, he isn't exactly a virtuoso with the thing.
Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening
Post by: Forge on February 20, 2015, 04:59:05 pm
He steps into the Admin dorms which were noticed earlier to not contain an enemy the fires from the doorway with his pistol and once more sees his shot scatter over the raised shield of Jackal 1 doing no damage what so ever. He then begins charging his second pistol.

Jackal 1 then returns fire as it holds it's ground with shield up, Drackalicious realizes that he can no longer dodge and feels the heat as the bolt passes inches from his face, any closer and he would have been hit or burnt.

Rouge then opens fire of Jackal 2 and surges to ignore his wounds one last time. His Burst fire is as close to perfect as can be expected from any normal human. The first bullet his a small exposed area of the Jackal, making it stagger and dip it's shield, while the others find their mark cleanly on its body, Jackal 2 staggers back bleeding badly. It raises it's shield again but it is clearly in bad shape.

Gotta love cover

Drakalicious fires off the charged shot at Jackal 2 and sticks in his cover. This time he doesn't charge his other pistol, taking a dodge action.

"Hold in there Rouge, just stay alive!"

The cadet activates his comlink.

"I don't know what the hell you're all doing in there, but me and Rouge got ambushed by some shielded jackals, we can take them but I don't think Rouge'll make it if this fight goes on much longer. Hurry up dammit!"
Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening
Post by: Forge on February 20, 2015, 05:23:17 pm
The charged shot flies out, and due to a little luck and some strange tracking ability it hits Jackal 1's shield, and makes it shatter. The Jackal seems relative unharmed but without it's shield it is definitely less keep on attacking and covers its head with its hands as it tries to run back into the armory.

Rouge then fires his gun off in full auto to finish off his clip at the Jackals. His bullets fly true but are scattered like rain off Jackal 2's shield. His clip jams slightly and he would be forced to waste an action fixing it, so instead he slides himself fully into the room, and into complete cover.

Jackal 2 then fires off a shot that hits exactly where Rouge had been moments before and lefts out a screech of anger at the fact he got safe with only seconds to spare. It runs for the corridor that leads North to the storage area , lowering it's shield as it does, and reaches partial cover.

The rest of the Cadets all hear Drackalicious' shout for help and know they could sprint up the stairs and to the corridor entrance quickly enough.

Jackson immediatly hits the red symbol and throws his grenade at the closer jackal, it flies slightly wide but the jackal still does an extremely impressive dive clear to ensure it is not in the blast area. Drack then fires at the fleeing jackal, missing as it leaps through the Armory door. Rouge runs for the door out then begins un jamming his clip once safe.

The grenade goes ff, scorching the corridor but not close enough to be a danger. Both Jackal's are out of sight completely, one in the corridor ?North, the other in the armoury.

(Uses both your actions) Biogel is a wonderful thing for temporary wound repairs and Rouge starts improving right away. This unfortunately don't go fully to plan and he will have to spend next turn healing him up too due to a slight mistake.

Steve charges after the Jackal in the Armory and reaches the door with the strange hilt thing in hand. He tries to activate it and nearly drops it when the blades come shooting out, formed of plasma contained by magnetic fields.

Nina moves to the corridor the other Jackal jumped down and finds it running away, running away means shield is down and she fires at its back, hitting it squarely in the back. It falls and stops moving.

Jackson finishes working on rouge and uses up the medkit. Rouge is back in action and has no major wounds bothering him anymore. He is still bruised and burnt though. He gets to his feet, thanking Jackson for the help.

Drackalicious charges into the room after Jackal 1 and finds that it has it's shield up again. He takes a wild swing at it, barely even getting close, but the jackal takes no chances and blocks the blade off it's shield just in case the bad attack was some sort of feint. The jackal is knocked back slightly but it and it's shield are still intact. It then fires at Drackalicious and nails him in the chest. Drackalicious feels searing pain and knows that it would be a lot worse if he was hit again or if he was not wearing armor.

Nina continues failing to get the device to do anything at all, but it does look like a rather fetching bracelet/trophie. She heads after Drak and reaches the doorway. Derek runs up behind her, keen to try out his new gun.

Mik slips into the Admin dorms after he decides that he wont get a clean shot from back here and quickly searches the room, coming out with an Admin Keycard but no new weapons. Jackson does a quick threat assessment and decides that the corridor up to the dining room entrance must be safe as allies have been there for some time now without further enemies appearing to attack them. Rouge gets prepared behind him to move out when the medic says it is safe.

In the Armory Drackalicious takes another wild swing at the jackal only to have the sword easily deflected off the large shield again, it seems that sword against shield is a bad combination. The Jackal returns fire now and Drackalicious tries to dodge and both seem to do a weird dance as the Jackal shoots accurately but seems to lower it's shield too much then panic and try and correct while Drackalicious dodges successfully but nearly burns himself  on the sword and trips during his recovering leaving them both flat-footed.

Nina then turns the Corner and in true feminist Russian Style Blasts into the Jackal with her needler, filling it's arm and shoulder with pink/purple crystals. It staggers back clearly badly wounded now.

Then it explodes in a large fluffy pink cloud of dismembered bodyparts.

Derek then leaps through the door shouting "Derek is here to save the day!" before realizing that the fight is over and wandering over to see what the pink mist settling to the floor is. He finds out that it is pieces of Jackal and pretends he was planning to check the weapon racks instead.

In the meantime Mik has used the admin keycard he just found to access the computers and sees that it is looking bad. Large numbers of covenant ships have been spotted coming up from the South and the entire East of the base records no comm traffic now apart from themselves. He then tries to access more info and triggers a fail-safe for using someone else's card, locking the computer down and disabling the Admin card.

Nina swings around the plasma sword, and looks around the armory. She'll take the biggest, most badass heavy weapon in the whole place.

Nina finds and takes the rocket launcher! She has two rockets in the clip and two in the spare pack which she clips onto her back.

Mik sees that the room contains nothing more useful really and there is a terminal in every room of the base so no reason to stay, checking the corridor he sees that it is all clear, and can tell through his comm that all others are in the Armory.

Steve Checks the room carefully, there are 3 DMRs 4 BRs LOTS af AR, enough armor for everyone and two meek its, he of course has basic training with the medics but they are one use items and Jackson would be significantly better using one on him. Also grenades.

The team also notes that the Western door within the Armory is still sealed, they have never been in there through and have no idea what it contains.

He grabs a DMRs, realizing that he will be over burdened with the needler, DMR and two plasma pistols he should probably just choose two guns.

He heads over to the door. Like all doors on base it is fairly simple, use your keycard and if you have clearance and the password, you get through. Or you can hack it.

Which he also fails with, not as badly as before though!

OOC: don't you love safe zones where you can repeatedly try things. So presuming you all keep trying this:

Finally after several members of the team try, the door slips open, they can't tell whether it was one of them finally succeeding in an hacking attempt or if the computer just got fed-up showing the same negative result, but either way they were in.

They find four marines corpses. Two have clearly been dragged into the room by the others, one is sprawled back on a shelf and one slumped, face against the wall below the door locking system. Behind the bodies are the shelves where the explosives and rocket launchers should be kept judging by the wall mounts and labels, but they are all empty, in fact the only guns left in here are the ones the dying marines brought. There is also a large cabinet to the side with no labels and strange fastenings, ones that shouldn't fit any weapons the cadets know about. These are also empty.

Drakalicious loots the marine's bodies, while trying to figure out how they died.

He finds, damaged armor and the same weapons as available outside. They are all covered with extensive plasma burns, one is missing an arm and is seared so badly that it only could have come from being near a plasma grenade when it went off. looking behind there is a scorch mark on the floor that might be from it. He decides that they were clearly just overwhelmed and shot down once cornered.

"Wait," says Jackson. "If they were overwhelmed in here & killed, who closed the door? And where are the weapons that should be here?"

"It makes sense to close the door if you throw a grenade in, alien or human. The door would take the brunt of the explosion while taking out those inside. The weapons were probably taken by another group of marines earlier or were taken by the aliens to screw with us...  What? I wouldn't be surprised if they did it."
Mikael says in response to Jackson before going to pick up the two discarded plasma pistols.

"So the aliens threw in a grenade, then closed the door, then hacked it open again, took the weapons, and reclosed and locked the door?"

OOC: Update while the tea discusses the strange dicovery

Everyone is going to get a full set of new gear, and I am assuming for now that they simply activate their fire-team comms for easy communication. The Armory IS a temporary safe zone, but matters outside do progress without you and lets just say the longer you wait, the worse it will be.

The team currently knows that the Aliens are Attacking in great numbers from the South and that they are no more comms active on the East of the base. They should be evacuating to one of the many evac. points around the base.

Drakalicious then begins talking to the team - "Guys, I think we're pretty much guaranteed to be attacked on the way to the nearest evac point so you're probably good to just talk and attract enemies on the way there anyway. We shouldn't wait here though, won't end well for us."

The group all piles out of the Armory and heads to the next room down the corridor, the Command Center. Nina marches out first with Drackalicious behind, doesn't get past her until they reach the doorway which should be another heavily re-enforced blast door, but just like the armory, is blown in and lying on the floor.

As Nina and Drackalicious arrive at the door, Nina immediately notices that something is wrong, there are two Jackals feeding off the corpses of humans inside. She dodges back in time to remain unseen by the Jackals. Drackalicious however walks right into the open while being distracted by a blinking light and doesn't notice the two Jackals ahead on him until one accidentally sets off a human pistol while trying to feed. Both Jackals then notice Drackalicious and shields activate on their arms ready for combat.

Drackalicious is in the middle of the doorway fully exposed, Nina is in partial cover behind the door frame. Everyone else is right behind and is counted as currently in full cover with no line of sight (The doorway is large so several people could shoot through it if needed.)

Several things appear to happen at once for the cadets (OOC: because it is more cinematic to write it up this way than describing each actions separate success and failure).

Drackalicious realizes the peril his love of small blinking light has put him in, but he knows it is not the beloved blinking light fault, it is the aliens fault. His anger at the alien's trying to make the blinking light out to be the bad guy lets his surge with energy and dive cleanly out of the way as the jackal fires at him, he rolls smoothly past the doorway and into full cover on the far side from the rest of his team as Jackal 1's plasma bolt sails by, hitting the wall behind.

Knowing of the danger of being flanked, Mik spins and takes up the ready to fire position in case more enemies approach from their rear, he sees nothing yet but stays prepared (OOC: counting this as aiming as so you'll get the bonus on your first action if they do appear, possible ambush too depending on circumstance.) As this happens, Nina charges into the door with the sword swinging and slashes a mighty blow at Jackal 1, she is clearly more proficient with the sword than Drackalicious and her blow would have cleaved the Jackal in two had it not blocked with it's shield. Unfortunately it does manage to block and is just knocked back a foot. At that moment Derek, who stepped up to the doorway opens fire with two bursts from his plasma rifle, the first one scatters off the shield but the jackal isn't able to recover from Nina's sword attack in time to block the second burst which catches it cleanly in the side, it staggers back clearly badly burned and wounded.

Things then begin degenerating. Rouge leads the two new cadets in a charge after Nina, rushing into the room then opening fire. He runs inside but slips slightly on the blood on the floor causing some difficulty in aiming at Jackal 2, he still however manages to hit the aliens shield, forcing it to block. The two new cadets however have less success. New cadet 1 slips completely on the blood and crashes to the floor, cadet two is surprised by the carnage and half eaten humans but in his anger he does manage to fire off some shots and force Jackal two to block again.

Jackson finally relents and runs over to Drackalicious to help him out with the last med-pack he took, knowing that there will be more in the command center. But then changes his mind last minute and doesn't actually help him. Instead he dumps med-pack and walks off leaving Drackalicious to use it himself.

Drackalicious moves first having finished applying Biogel to his own burns while the team medic blatantly ignores him, helping Mik cover the still empty corridor, both cadets maintain their aim nonetheless.

Drakalicious fires on the Jackal Nina is engaging but his bullets bounce cleanly off the shield it raises in defence. Nina then moves to grapple the shield and pulls it aside just as Derek puts a burst of bullets clean into its chest, killing it instantly.

Rouge and the two incompetent other cadets who pick themselves up have a great idea, walk AROUND the shield. They split up and flank the remaining jackal, rouge distracts it with fire as they flank, following his master plan. His bullets bounce off the shield as expected but it is unable to dodge the first flankers fire and takes a hit, the second cadet once more fails and cleanly misses the target despite having a clean and unopposed shot.

Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening
Post by: Forge on March 16, 2015, 02:27:43 pm
It is said that there are times, when two skilled combatants face off against eachother, that time seems to slow. They say that the two can see the faintest details of their surroundings, track individual raindrops and hear even the flutter of a butterfly's wings. Some even claim that the two can read each other's thoughts, as if conversing, but all in the fraction of a second before they take their final strikes.

This was not one of those times.

Jack two had just seen a muscle-bound female, wearing trophies of dead jackals, pulling a shield away as Jackal 1 was killed and now it found itself alone and surrounded. The female ignored it to instead strip the shield device off dead Jackal one. Sadly the rest of the cadets did not ignore it.

In the end Steve, Rouge and the two expendable extras all fired on jackal two from different angles and it is torn apart by the bullets, falling dead as it's shield dissipates.

Jackson prepares to aid any wounded but sees that expendable cadet 1 falling over was the worst injury so doesn't bother helping him, cos no-one likes that guy anyway. Mik keeps guarding the outside while the rest look around.

It seems that the control room was taken by surprise, they must have assumed the door would hold for longer as most of the offices lie dead near their seats or slumped over consuls. Nina notices that one of them is slumps forward on a stange display below a key, noting that there is a second key a few feet to the right and a large red button in the middle below a display reading 10:00 between them she realizes that it is the base self destruct.

At that moment he takes a burst to the chest from Derek and Jackson tackles him from the back, although the tackle does not go as planned and both are left sprawled on the floor.

Rouge speaks up again "As funny as this all is, you are maki a lot of noise and setting a ten minute detonation on the base isn't such a bad idea really, most of it is already over-run by aliens and the officers were obviously trying to set it. The argument drags on, some wanting to activate the self destruct like the officers were planning to do, some wanting to hold off for the foreseeable future and the rest just wanting to get the hell out of the clearly doomed base before they were all killed.

Suddenly the decision is taken from them and all the screens in the room flicker briefly and return to normal except the display above the big red button. It displays the message:

"Oni override. Self-destruct initiated. Timer altered."

Thn it goes blank as the countdown flicks to 5:00 and begins ticking down while the self destruct warnings blare out of the speakers in the walls.

Rouge manages in their usually verbose manner to sum up the situation perfectly. They were a group of cadets, separated and out of contact with anyone else, probably presumed long dead, in a base being systematically over-run by vastly superior alien forces and now with only 5 minutes to get clear before the entire thing goes up in a massive explosion.

"Oh Shite"

Everyone is spurred into action and charges out after the lead group with Nina clearly visible at the fore with her plasma sword swinging about it the air. Quickly they realize they might have been too long in the same place as several hear alien voices from the entrance to the canteen along with the sound of plasma fire.

Nina reaches the garage door to find it secured with it's standard low level access pad, any of the cadets can get through it but it will take a few moments to swipe cards and key in passcodes. Steve (Drackalicious) and Derek both glance across into the entertainment centre and see several dead humans and covenant. Clearly a nasty skirmish was fought there and there might be scavengable gear or weapons.

Nina watches Jackson as he swipes his card past the reader then enters the code, it only takes a few seconds and the light flicks from red to green with a short buzz. The door begins to swing open for them to enter, as it does they immediatly begin hearing the sound of battle.

As this is happening everyone else apart from Rouge charge into the entertainment centre to look for items of value, despite having recently geared themselves out entirely in the Armory. They are met with a bit of a brutal scene as they find four dead admin staff and one dead marine mixed in with three dead grunts and two dead jackals. Most of the equipment is damaged and lesser quality than what they are already wearing but there are 4 usable plasma pistols on the ground that they can see.

At roughly the moment that the door is swinging open and the 'Loot team' size up the slaughter in the Entertainment room, two Jackals and a grunt come out of the dining area and immediatly target the Cadets waiting to get throught the door with strange but oddly cute alien language. The jackals shields are turned to face them.

Jackson and rouge quickly jump through the door into the garage and a hectic sight meets their (and only their) eyes.

There is currently a pitched battle going on between defending marienes and the aliens trying to push inside via the large bay doors. Near the rear of the large square room (directly ahead as you enter) there is a warthog with its engine blown out being used as a stationary gun with a marine firing out the door at the covenant (main doors to the left as you enter). There are two other damaged warthogs nearby but they are repairable and one already has a trainee mechanic working on it while e other is near the entrance with two marienes using it as cover.

A glance tells Jackson that there are seven marienes here holding out. Apart from the warthog gun that is being used there is a turret set up on the North wall near the doors with sandbags in from of it and one sniper in the north east corner of the room providing heavy cover fire, the other marines and spread near the door with a range of standard weapons. There is one very clearly dead marine and several dead grunts in the doorway but also wounds and burns visible on the defenders. The covenant have the numbers with at least a dozen grunts, several jackals and elites outside currently holding distance due to heavy fire.

The nearest mariene runs over from his position "Cadets? Where the smeg did you... Never mind, you have guns so get in there and be useful. This is our last holdout so everyone prepare to clear the way. For evac!" Without waiting for a reply he sprints back towards his position.

Rouge notices a few more details as they had been in here often, the two meek its and mechanical/electronic equipment is still in the cage to their right and there is a strange pod type thing which has punched partway through the roof, right near the mechanical Crain used for moving vehicles. He tells Jackson this all.

In the corridor many people and Aliens have many plans, they look like this: Nina charges her enemies as all fearless giant female Russian warriors should, displaying their dead comrades equipment in all its sparkly glory as she does so. Derek sprints through to the garage but pauses in the doorway to cover her and mic stays in the entertainments door to shoot from there. Steve Tries to sprint sadly across the corridor into the garage and the dubious but luckily extra cadets half heartedly move out after Nina and try to. Fire at the grunt and jackals.

How things turnout though is a different matter.

As rouge easily slips through the door, Jackal 1 opens fire with a cackle only to have its plasma pistol instantly overheat in its hand, it also fails its reflex save and burns its hand, dropping the gun and dipping it's shield temporarily. Steve sprints and slide in style into the garage without difficulty as Derek smoothly takes up position in the garage door and fires off a burst, hitting and badly wounding the already injured Jackal.

Jackal two then returns fire and Derek is surprised to find a glowing green orb hitting his chest, knocking him into the garage as the Lightning forks out and he feels the searing pain or a plasma bolt hitting him. Grunt 1 then throws what all the cadets now recognize as a plasma grenade which lands nicely between the doorways endangering everyone there.

Nina charges out as the grenade lands, barely missing her and she sprints towards the enemies, closing the distance with a double move while mic fires, hitting the jackals shield before he dives back away from the grenade, falling awkwardly on his back but clear of the blast. The two spare cadets move out behind Nina into the corridor and both open fire on the grunt who tries to dodge but slips and takes a Battle rifle round clear to the head and instantly dies.

Then the grenade goes off.

Nina is clear, Derek is saved only by the fact he already got shot and only gets a minor burn on his leg but the two spare cadets, having followed their orders have already taken the time to move then fire and they both get hit by the blast. Derek is the only one to witness the effect as the grenade blast in all of its purple glory hits them in the back and blasts them out of his sight down the corridor after Nina.

Drakalicious grins happily, seeing all his targets grouped so considerately together.

Priming his plasma grenade, he launches it towards the group of grunts and jackals while cackling maniacally.

Whipping out the Needler, he fires the thing into whatever is left of the crowd of covenant soldiers, surging to fire a second time at the survivors, spending luck points as needed to make the shots hit, laughing in his bloodlust all the while.

He does not, however, forget to defend himself. Dying sucks when you're the one doing it, after all, and he will dodge any fire that comes his way from the horrified survivors.

Finally, he shall scream out to the man using the warthog gun as a turret, giving him as much of his Born Leader Surge as necessary for the man to wipe out anything that so much as twitches.

"FOR BLOOD, FOR GLORY, FOR VICTORY!"

*Botch, the Needler explodes in Drakalicious' hands, the covenant soldiers kill him for throwing the grenade at them.

Ooc: going to count 3 replies as enough to keep things moving.

With all but one visible enemy left Derek thinks better of heading back into the corridor and gets slowly to his feet in the garage with Rouges help. He finds rouge has also taken the time to grab one of the two medkits from the cage and he begins healing him, the injuries are only minor so While Jackson would be better Rouge is sure that they will do a good job too.

Steve then goes on a rampage on the enemies outside and the other combatants also duke it out. He sees three grunts grouped closely together and flings out a grenade with a fairly nice throw, seeing them all try to dive out of the way, he just has time to. Note how short their legs are and how little distance they can dive as a result before he whips out his needler firing two blasts and emptying his clip. The first blast hits a grunt clean in the torso and the poor thing goes off like a firework when the needles chain explode within him, the second blast heads right for a Jackle but with a cry from a nearby elite the shots are deflected harmlessly off its shield.

The other defenders are not idle either as two grunts and one Jackle go down and one elite takes a wound before diving behind cover. Sadly the enemy also return fire and Steve watches a pretty purple light appear behind him and turns to see a marienes hit the ground with what looks like steam escaping from his head, clearly very dead. One more dies from plasma fire while a missed grenade is dodged by the defenders.

Jackson stares at the pod. It is obviously somthing alien but for the moment he can't for the life of him think what it is, couldn't be a giant bomb or they wouldn't send it down with their own troops here right? Or would they? He does however see that if he moved the mechanical Craine arm he might knock it free from where it is stuck in the roof.

In the corridor Jackle two fires at Nina in relatively close range and she goes for his shield, the sight of her charge obviously scares the naturally cowardly creature and it misses totally, hitting the ceiling far from her as she grabs the shield and wrenches it away from him... Feeling the energy dissipate between her hands. Nina is mad at this and swings her sword, trying to cleanly cut the thing in two before recovering another bangle however it leaps cleanly away putting a few feet between them.

Which is when Mik shots twice, hitting on the second shot and wounding the Jackal.

The grenade outside goes off and Steves notices that two of the grunts were indeed still too close and get toasted to a crisp as their bodies fly away, the third seems to only get a little burnt.

The two spare cadets stagger to their feet and stumble toward to garage. Both are very badly wounded.

Post by: Forge on July 10, 2015, 12:06:09 pm
Rouge helps the now not so wounded Derek stagger behind cover and takes aim outside while Derek sets up his sniper on the crates ready to fire.

Steve then takes aim with his DMR and shoots the wounded grunt clean in the back, finishing it off nicely, that is the moment he and the others notice another wave of enemies being dropped off by a dropship a short distance back, looks like re-inforcements are coming.

Nina let's out her Russian battlecry and goes for the Jackal but finds it already fleeing back into the dining area. They really are cowards afterall, she steps into the doorway after it only to realize the reason it ran back in here would be the elite and two grunts near the far side of the room who notice her as she notices them. She steps back giving herself cover behind the door frame but the aliens know she is there and she hears the elite barking out what must be orders.

Mik jogs across the corridor into the garage leaving Nina to finish off the Jackal and notes the damaged warthog immediately, he runs over to help, not noticing the spare tools Rouge had spotted.

Jackson in the meantime dodges the fighting and goes to work on the crane, it really isn't his best ability but after a moment of testing the controls he has it swing around and slam against the wierd pod which comes loose and falls to the floor, spilling out a dead elite as the door opens, Jackson can tell it died from burns, possibly during or after landing in the roof and being trapped. It was clearly a drop pod uses to get special forces behind enemy lines he thinks, knowing human forces employ exactly the same tactic with similar tech.

The spare cadets stagger into the garage but one collapses and dies from his wounds. The other leans against the wall close to the door.

Outside battle: the aliens are now mostly in cover and take their toll on the defenders with the human sniper being taken out and the gunner on the warthog also being wounded.  The Marenes fire back but the stationary turret overheats and can't fire again till it cools off and they only manage to cause a couple of wounds before finishing off the elite who's shield was down.

The marienes seem to be holding out for now but with the new wave of enemies and possibly more to come who knows in the long term. Mic is repairing the only good choice of a warthog along with the other mechanic which will seat two with one gunner. The defenders are all behind cover and the pod has fallen in a fairly safe area near the crates Derek and Rouge are using for cover. Nina was left back in the corridor.
Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening

In the Garage rouge joins the marines in firing at the enemies outside as does Derek, using his sniper to good effect, the distance is a little far for Rouge as his bullets just hit cover but Derek's sniper shot takes a grunt clean through the head for an instant kill. Steve fires at the wounded elite which is trying to stay in cover long enough for its shields to recharge. The first shot hits the cover but the second makes it through and he sees the elite stagger, alive but clearly badly wounded now.

Nina sprints all the way trough the corridor and just into the Garage when it occurs to Jackson that the security door would be best being locked, which he does right behind Nina before going to search the pod. He finds the elite is clearly dead but there is an energy sword, two plasma grenades and a repeater in the pod.

Mik then scores two more successes on the warthogs engine along with the other mechanic and it roars to life. "She's up and running!" He shouts as they slam the cover down and bolt it in place.

The wartog holds one driver, one passenger who can use their own gun and one gunner on the back who can stand on the back to use the large mini-gun on its rotating platform.

With the lower numbers outside the aliens are being careful this round but this shouldn't last as the reinforcements are just arriving. The gunner has to wait for his mounted gun to cool so just ducks behind the sandbags but the warthog gunner starts firing again despite his wounds reducing his accuracy. A grunt goes down along with a jackal while a marine behind the warthog near the door takes a bad wound and the warthog gunner finds two large crystal shares appearing in his chest and dies as he falls off the gun.

(Init removes as Jackson successfully locked the door and they are currently unable to engage)

One of the marines shouts over to them "either take the Hog and make a break for the evac before more enemies arrive or take up positions and help our defence!"

"Screw it, I'm the mechanic, I'll get that one running too!" shouts mic as he leaps out of the drivers seat and sprints for the warthog near the door. The others group around behind the fixed warthog for cover while they choose a new plan. A couple eye up the weapons in the pod Jackson knocked down but none have made a go for them yet, maybe what they already have is better?

Nina however kicks the dead marines corpse aside as she leaps into the gun of the stationary warthog with the busted engine and lays down a 45 degree cover fire from her turret at thr same time as reinforcements arrive for the aliens. The gun however is jammed and about to backfire, a bit of luck saves her and she unjams it just in time. She gets no kills but a hail of bullets is an intimidating thing anyway.

The battle is at a bit of a lull with the enemy reinforcements arriving but not charging and the marines in cover too so just one grunt goes down and the gunner on the stationary gun takes a minor injury forcing him to duck again for the rest of the turn.

Not forgetting Derek on the turret of the fixed warthog, he also goes for a large strafe across an area where he sees several of the newly arrived enemies hiding behind cover. He hits the cover causing some to duck but one Jackle holding what looks like a rifle is not quick enough and takes several bullets as it jumps behind cover, Derek can't see if it dies or not but there is a lot of brightly coloured blood from where he hit it.

Things happen mostly at the same time. In reality they happened separately but the laws of cinematic effect came into play as with all great moments involving large guns and altered the perception of those present.

Nina, Derek and the injuresd marine on the North turret all open fire with full-auto heavy machiene-gun fire and strafe the enemy position with an astonishing amount of bullets. As time appears to slow Jackson plans to jog over to the pod and see what is inside.

However he is also affected by the cinematic law and finds himself sprinting then sliding over to the pod, sliding not just in the open, but directly under the fire from Nina's gun as she hollered her war cry. The slide of course takes him right to the pod where he spins to get his back to it and us it as cover while he pulls out two plasma grenades, an Un-activated plasma sword and a plasma repeater.

Drackalicious meanwhile has hopped into the passenger seat of the hog and finds himself turning his head away from the aliens, as if he was too cool to look at his enemy while he reloads the needler in slow motion, hold it it up to the air in  a dramatic fashion as the new clip slots into place and the casings from Derek's fire shower down behind him, sparking off the Hogs glass.

Mik meanwhile makes it to the hog near the entrance but sadly is drawn into the cinematic effect as the mechanic who followed him takes a sniper to the chest JUST as they reached the cover and practically backflips to the ground while Mic slides himself under the hog to begin repairs.

The other marines and aliens can escape the affects no better than the cadets could and there are multiple slow motions dives, rolls and battle cries surrounded by sparks and gunfire both inside and putting the garage.

Nina and Derek account for a dead grunt and an elite left unshielded and diving behind some Jackals who reflect most of the bullets but one takes a small wound to it's foot. The marines then take down the wounded grunt and one with a DMR takes down the wounded elite with a headshots.

The Aliens respond with grenades and return fire however the cinematic allows the defenders to Dodge in slow motions leaps and only two wounds are taken with no deaths.
However the defenders are now carrying A LOT of wounds and the cadets can see their fighting potential has dropped significantly.

Mic actually calls out good news "I can fix her, just take a few seconds more!"

Jackson grabs up the weaponry and drops it off behind Rouge who thanks him briefly before firing a blast and ducking behind his crate to look at what weapons Jackson had brought. Jack son then runs over to the horribly burnt and near death Cadet to find him in horrific shape, his entire back is a mess of charred flesh and he is currently unconcious, Jackson notes that there is one medkit left in the area a few feet from him so grabs it but doesn't have time to use it yet.

There are four Marines left on the defence now with Nina on the warthog turret, Derek jumps off his and sets up his sniper over the crate by Rouge, pretty good cover for them both. Steve doesn't pass up a chance to play on a mounted gun and jumps up onto the gunner platform and opens fire about the same time as Derek takes a test shot against an Elite, killing their leaders and best combatants is a good move for a sniper afterall.

Mik works away on the Warthog near the entrance which finally roars to life and he hops into the drivers seat ready to spin it back to the others but he is forced to stay stationary while the marine using it for cover changes position.

Nina sadly finds her gun Jams up right as she pulls the trigger and she has to spend the rest of the turn pulling the trapped cartridge out of the mechanism. Derek Fires off his first sniper shot but finds it glances off the cover right by the Elites head, doing no damage this time. Steve opens fire in a spread but also if da the aliens use their cover too well.

The Marines drop two grunts and wound a jackal while the aliens return fire and the Marine changing cover from behind Mik's warthog goes up in a cloud of pink, body parts raining around the area. Mik also takes a clean hit, staying stationary too long is dangerous.

The Marine on the turret pauses long enough to clutch his wounded arm and shouts back into the room "They have grouped up which means they will swarm us soon, at least that seems to be the standard Cov tactic. I'd say Three elites, 7 Jackals and a dozen or so Grunts coming this way, be prepared!" He then turns back and braces for the assault.

Mik tries to drive the hog back after seeing the marine he displaced die, sadly a couple of the jackals know what he is doing and fire charged plasma bolts at him. He tries to swerve away from the bolts as they appear to move relativelyslowlyin the air however he does not have room to manover in the garage and the first bolt hits the warthog in the side. Mik braces for impact but instead of an explosion he sees the green lightning forking out from the scortch impact mark and the vehicle instantly dies with all electronics buzzing. He skids to an instant halt still in the open as more enemies target him.

Jackson then acts like a marine medic paragon and charges forward into the most dangerous area in order to help his comrade, as he runs he sees the enemy begin their charge. The elites step out are roar what must be orders to the other aliens, several of whom instantly surge out of cover and toward the garage. Jackson's experience tells him that the elites must be using leadership abilities for them to react to fast. He also notes that since they just surged, he is in the open and several jackals are using long range weaponry.

Jackson instantly weaves and dodges, avoiding a sniper round that came close enough for him to feel the heat off the coloured light before also dodging fire from the strange rifle type weapon. He does however get clipped on the shoulder by a plasma bolt, luckily his armour took most of the damage and his vitality loss is minimal. (Ooc: dodged the sniper round that would have messed you up bad, then dodged the carbine that also would have messed you up, got hit by the lowest rolling weakest weapon... Lucky lucky medic lol)

Derek tries to support Jackson with his fire but is unable to move before the surging aliens, this does however give him time to line up some shots. He momentarily ignores his set up sniper to fire off a burst from his plasma repeater and watches most of the shots landing into the middle elites shields, making them flash and light up like a christmass tree. The shield holds however it clearly looks weakened when he drops the repeater and scopes in on his sniper, sadly he knows the shot will miss as he pulls the trigger, he can see the Elite moving back into cover at the last second so he relies on luck, tracks ahead of the elites helmet and fires. And the luck saves him as the elites head and the bullets path cross beautifully, the shield shattering under the extream force of the sniper round which passes right through it and the elites head without pausing at all. The elite instantly crumples, clearly very dead.

Nina finishes un jamming her gun and quickly blasts off a sweeping spray of bullets catching one grunt cleanly killing it, one dives under the fire while a second dives clear but drops its gun in the process. Steve then also fires his turret also in a sweeping arc, sadly finding his bullets ricochetting of two jackals shields, he does note however that they are knocked back a little by the bullets and the shields changed colour a little while under the heavy fire.

Rouge then sees what is important, they need to rally their comrades in glorious fashion as their ancestors did before them. They also have just squired two grenades... Rouge stands up in the open and cries "For the Cadets. For humanity and for attacking us on meatloaf night!" They activate a grenade in each hand and fling the at the charging enemies before attempting to duck back into cover. A little slow ducking Rouge is in time to find a green crystal appearing in their chest as the grenades both overshoot their intended targets of the front row of attacking enemies, both travel around 7-8 feet too far. Rouge lands hard behind cover somewhat embarrassed that they not on,y missed their grenade throws but just took a pretty bad wound too.

The marines then fire as the rest of the aliens break cover and start shooting. The marines drop two grunts but it appears that Thea.iens tend to target vehicles and big guns first as Nina takes a plasma hit on her armour this time and one skims past Steve, the turrets shielding plate deflecting the shot away from him Nina is luckily not badly I jured but she knows she has some serious burns to deal with later, she has to make sure they scar properly to show off afterall.

Rouge is about to be depressed when one marine lets out a huge whoop as the grenades go off and they all hear the screams as two grunts and a Jackal are blown to purple mist and body parts rain across their allies, Rouge realizes that his throws overshot the surged front runners but that means they landed solidly in the area that the second wave of Un-surged aliens were. Two Jackals jumped clear in time but 3 kills is pretty good afterall.

Derek scopes the enemy and shouts out their positions.
"Two elites left,  they are bringing up the rear with about 8 grunts and two jackals with long ranged weapons, looks like 4 shield jackals are in front with 6 more grunts charging with them. Front wave 15 feet away, rear group 25 feet away!"

Drakalicious cries out, bringing his Needler to bear. He aims once at both elites, and fires once on each of them, surging to fire a second time since he doesn't have rapid shot.

He spends luck as needed to hit either of them, and then gives his two remaining born leader surge to Derek so he can make two more shots this round.

"LET THEM ALL BURN!!!!!!" he cries out.

Seeing the charging aliens seems to galvanize the team into action.

Rouge acts first, popping up to fire a burst at the lead grunt before ducking back down behind cover, with a beautiful shot a small shower of blood goes up from the grunts chest and it staggers back, clearly wounded.

Jackson then Sprints out from behind Miks stunned warthog and with a good sprint makes it behind Routes cover easily without having to surge, he also still has medikit in hand so gets to work immediately.

The Marine on the turret then opens fire only to have a casing jam and set off the next round prematurely, he isn't injured but it will take time to fix the turret.

The Elite then Makes his move, raising his gun high in the air only to notice Nina, who before now was reacting slowly, suddenly interrupt his movement by releasing a rocket at the front row of enemies. Her shot flies straight but just as with Rouge's grenades, it goes around 7-8 feet too far, this also means it impacts right in front of the second row of enemies. She watches an elite, a Jackal and two grunts madly dive for cover. None of them react in time however and they are all caught in the blast to some extent. A grunt is nearest the blast centre and is literally blown to pieces while the second grunt and Jackal are thrown into the air, landing in bloody heaps a few metres away. The Elite however is only knocked back a few feet, it's shield is gone and there are scotch marks on its armour but it is still very much alive It stands up and roars loudly before charging at the garage, covering most of the distance to the defenders, it is inside and only a couple of feet from Rouge and Derek's crate.

The wounded grunt stumbles back for cover while Steve unloads fire on both elites, starting with the close one.
It can't Dodge anymore and takes the needles to the chest, Steve doesn't really know how the weapon works but half a clip is good right? Half the clip goes in and the elite, who wasn't that wounded, disappears in a cloud of pink pieces streaked through with purple blood. Steve pauses for a second and looks at the needler "This weapon is totally Op" he says before sending the second half of the clip at the other elite, the needles are all on target but the elite gains some luck and dodges behind cover, narrowly avoiding a pink death. (ooc: Drak got good rolls and didn't use luck but the elite used luck to successfully Dodge the attack).

Derek then feels a sudden strong surge and fires twice, reloads and fires once more (ooc: 4 bullet clip, two used already) he targets the remaining elite, then the Jackal at the back, then a Jackal in the front row. The Elite has dodged behind cover making the shot harder however a little luck aids in the shot and once more a sniper round ends an elites life instantly. The Jackal at the rear however dodges perfectly while the one at the front dips it's shield for a moment too long as the shot finds its mark, killing it outright.

Three grunts and two shield Jackals gain the inside of the garage but don't manage to hit anything while a marine fires at them, also failing to score any hits.

Mik finds the hog roaring into life just as another charge shot from a grunt hits it again, once more stunning the vehicle. He ducks as the next grunt targets him directly but he is a sitting duck and takes a hit from the plasma bolt once more. He abandons the driver seat to try and hide behind the hog, hoping the cover will save him.

The final marine to moves takes a targeted shot and drops the grunt which shot Mik with a headshots.

Another grunt charges into the area and the defenders see both of its hands light up with plasma grenades, it is only a few feet away...

The Jackal at the back is confirmed to be the sniper as it targets the obvious high value target, the woman with the rocket Launcher standing on the gunner platform of a warthog, it fires... Nina knows she cannot Dodge but as the beam flies towards her head Rouge shouts "Dodge!" and she leaps away just in time for the beam to miss her head, and hit her torso instead. She falls from the hog still clutching the rocket launcher with 1 in the tube as she hits the ground lightly wounded.

That leaves 5 grunts and one shield Jackal to go... Three of the grunts first charge close and throw grenades. One lands near a marine, one hits Derek's crate and bounces off luckily into a harmless spot and one... Trips.. Dropping his grenade at his own feet and near another grunt. It dives clear while the Jackal following also dives clear before firing at Jackson, clipping the crate near him. The Marine goes up in an explosion as does the grunt who dropped the plasma.

It is then that they hear a strange humming noise and see the strange aircraft swooping outside. The turret near the entrance disappears in a giant green explosion along with the Marine manning it, the aircraft then seems to dance in the air before disappearing again.

The group has seen the Elites go down and feels like they have almost won as a result, however there are still a lot of enemies closing in on them very quickly that they need to deal with.

Rouge lets Jackson finish his first aid then pops up and fires a quick burst at a lead grunt. He fires well however the grunt seems to anticipate the shot and dives clear, getting away un-injured. Jackson then Quickly assesses the situation. There are 4 badly injured people at the moment, Mik, who is slap band in the middle of the enemy leaning against the hog still near the doors, the unconscious marine near the inside door who may or may not have died in the meantime, The defending marine who is shooting from behind a crate near the North of the room and Nina who is not AS badly wounded and is behind the warthog near the very rear of the room (East wall) Rouge is in good shape and Derek is only lightly injured behind the crate where Jackson is also now ducking which is near the South wall. the enemies are closing fast and most are less then 1 movement from the crates meaning that in one run they could be past the defender's cover. he sees and hears no sign of the weird alien light aircraft from before and notes that several enemies are quite manic, probably due to loosing their commanders so quickly, they might snap one way or another very soon.

Nina then gets to her feet, she can feel the injury slowing her but she fires anyway, risking the lives of all the defenders in her gamble... which pays off. the rocket flies beautifully, impacting at the feet of a grunt with two other grunts and a jackal also in range. The one at the epicenter simply flails it's arms in the air and screams while the rest try and dive out of the danger zone. The jackal and one grunt make it clear while the last grunt dives heroically but does not get quite far enough, it is thrown back by the blast, injured but alive while the one with the flailing arms takes the full brunt and what little remains of it simply makes and interesting colorful texture on the high ceiling. She then jumps behind the warthog for cover.

A grunt moves next, targeting the sniper who killed their leaders and fires a shot from it's plasma pistol. Derek sees it coming and knows instantly that he has reacted too slowly to dodge properly and that the shot is aimed perfectly, it will catch him in the face, entirely unprotected by his armor. He knows that the result will be very bad and attempts to draw strength one last time from his lucky rainbow colored sock as he closes his eyes and waits for the impact. and he feels it in his chest, he isn't sure how the shot not only changed course from his un-protected face, or how that allowed it to curve past the crate and hit his chest... but then he feels the elastic on his sock finally snap and knows it gave him the luck he needed this final time, his armor now able to absorb much of the damage.

Steve then spins up and fires a pot-shot at the sniper before diving behind the warthog and is almost surprised when the round takes the alien clean in what he assumes would be it's chest. It staggers back injured but still alive. Steve then lands in cover right on top of a dead marine who's corpse provides a nice cushioned landing.

Derek doesn't want to be out-done by Steve of all people and gets to his feet quickly firing a shot at the grunt who had injured him, followed by an adrenaline surge from his injury allowing one more snapshot against the grunt holding two grenades already activated and only 10 feet away from him. The first shot goes beautifully and hits the grunt in the chest and as always passing right through without pause but the second grunt, the one with the grenades dodges, leaping clear just in time. It dodges the shot but lands badly and is sprawled out on the floor.

Three grunts and two Jackals go next, surging forwards to get round the cover the defenders are currently using. the jackals run left (South) and get round the side of the crates negating the cover for Jackson, Rouge and Derek while the grunts continue their seemingly unco-ordinated charge forwards and get past the crate to the right meaning they are right in the middle of the room, right in front of the hog and between the defenders on the North and South crates. Two have exhausted themselves dodging and running already so only three fire and by some strange luck only 1 shot flies true, aimed not at the three hunkered down behind the crate but back at the badly injured Mik who is now behind the enemy lines, who, injured as he is fails his dodge roll and takes yet another plasma hit to the chest, his armour cracking under the strain (After 3 hits I start rolling for armour damage now). Mik spends a luck to not die here but falls unconscious to the floor, barely stabilized)

The Last marine defender then decides it is do or die time and tosses his grenade at the three grunts  that circled the cover before spinning and taking a shot at the grunt with two grenades, surging for the extra action, knowing that if he doesn't that it is very possible for three cadets to die... His throw, is going to go long he realizes as he is doing it, right towards the cadets he was trying to save, then his foot slips just enough to throw his angle off and the grenades goes true (OOC: used a luck to save your asses here. honestly without this marines turn I think there would be three deaths...) the frag grenade lands and bounces just short of the grunts meaning it will go off nicely right in the center of them in a couple of seconds. His shot then causes the grunt to dive backwards once more taking it a couple more feet from the defenders.

The sniper then makes his move against the defenders once more, hurting from the wound in it's chest it lines up a shot against the marine and lands a clean hit on the already wounded defender who falls, not quite dead but bleeding out behind his crate.

This is quickly followed by the last three grunts and final jackal moving forward. The Jackal leaps up onto the crate in front of the dying marine but missed its snap shot at him, it is close now though and looks hungry. the grunts charge forwards but seeing the grenade, they do not run past the cover and one takes a shot at Steve, who despite good cover takes the hit on his leg thanks to a very good/lucky shot from the grunt. The other two think better of it and head back for the door.

Then the grenades go off, the grunt carrying two of them seems more scared then is possible for humans to feel as it explodes in twin plumes of pink mist, leaving nothing even recognizable as remains. the humans frag grenade goes off right after, all three grunts too stunned to dodge get wiped out, one corpse landing on Derek. Well half the corpse, the other half lands a few feet away.

Drakalicious looks for cover farther away from the death fighting, then goes there - the grunts would overtake this position soon, and he was all out of tricks.

Failing to find anything, he shrugs, whips out the DMR and cries out - "KNEEL BEFORE THE GOD OF WAR!" as he looses fire on the grunts nearest to him.

Right before hiding right back behind that glorious cover of his.

With most of the enemies dead now the team pushes for victory as Jackson tries to save everyone he can. It also feels like an unseen being above them is smiling about how many less dice rolls there are...

Rouge does not like being flanked, being flanked by two shield jackals is actually pretty bad, especially as they are only standing a few feet away armed with plasma pistols. They fires a burst from his BR at the first one but watches the shots harmlessly glint off it's shield without ever endangering it. Rouge surges again, imagining their ancestors as they charged in the vanguard of past battles, dying gloriously and puts a burst of fire at the second jackal, it lifts it's shield to block the shots however not fast enough as the burst of bullets slips through and cleanly hits the jackal and it stumbles back badly wounded.

Jackson then sprints right through the middle of the garage, straight through the remains of the grunts killed by the frag grenade and slides into position beside the dying marine. He sees that the man will die soon but applies emergency first aid and finds that the marine stabilizes for now, he wont die now but obviously is still grievously wounded. Jackson then looks up at the Jackal which was intending to feast upon the dying marine, it is on the crate right above him and he gets a nice view of its open jaws and plasma pistol pointing at him.

Nina then climbs back onto the turret and fires a full auto blast at the grunts milling about in the center of the garage, a few feet from where Jackson just ran. Just as she roars her challenge and begin firing the grunts start running. The entire group of remaining grunts sprint for the door as Nina's bullets spray the area they were standing only moments before.

Steve's targets have fled so he shoots at the easiest target available, the jackal above Jackson. It shows once more just how nimble they are by leaping back 10 feet, landing easily... then runs for the door too. Leaving only the sniper and the two jackals on the left side still fighting.

Derek attempts to alter this by sniping the sniper before it can do any more damage however he finds it dodging out of the way at the last second.. and he has used 4 bullets so he has to grab his plasma repeater to use instead and fires off a burst from it. His shots spread out too much over the distance and he misses, however the jackal does still dodge.

Then the flankers get to go. The un-wounded one goes first and cackles as it points it's plasma right at Derek and fires... missing him despite his inability to dodge and the close range. The wounded one then notes that everything else has fled and decides to do some damage before it dies, firing at Rouge, it's bolt flies true and he takes a hit on his side. Then they rout too.

All enemies are now fleeing out of the door.

Jackson doesn't have a medikit now, just bandages, but Rouge is not badly injured due to the previous healing they received and Jackson gets back into the Vitality range nicely.

Everyone else takes stock. There are 5 of them left standing after the defence with two unconscious people nearby (Mik and marine, the guy that came in with you died) they have one working warthog with a gun that seats three and a passenger hog with no gun that sits 6.

They all note that with the sheer number of dead that ammo shouldn't be an issue.

Nina and Steve head out through the corpses and bits of remains to loot what they can while Derek and Rouge assist Jackson with the more badly wounded.

Steve comes away with a full needler and a full spare clip in his belt along with 2 human and two plasma grenades to use later. Nina gets the same numbers of grenades but finds that her rocket launcher is clearly the biggest gun around here, the sniper at the rear of the room in the dead marines hands the only arguable exception. She has two rockets left so loads them into the tube.

Jackson finds that. They have used up the medkits in the area but he still has bandages, basic supplies and his first aid abilities. He makes sure the unconcious survivors are stable and they all get loaded into the rear seats of the passenger warthog before being strapped in place, it will be a bumpy ride but they won't be in an exploding base at least.

Talking of exploding base, just as they strap the last guy in place...

With the warning timers blaring out between the alarms and quickly counting down to an imminent explosion the team speeds up it's actions. Derek sprints over to the dead sniper and grabs his ammo, filling his current clip and gaining 1 spare clip for a total of 8 shots remaining. He then sprints back to find Nina already manning the turret.

Around this time Steve sprints over and grabs Mik to throw him into the drivers seat when a piece of Mik's armor comes off in his hand. Mik is clearly near dead and practically covered in horrifying burns. Steve also notes that his armour shattered under the last shot meaning it is significantly less effective than before. No armor lasts forever afterall and he knows more than one of them have also taken more than one hit... Jackson who is strapped in beside Mik also notes the broken armor and it's implications.

Rouge then steps up and leaps into the driving seat of the passenger hog, flicking the radio to the spot on the dial marked "Rocking very old classics" in rough pen. It is strange, the entire planet should be on radio lockdown but somehow Falloutboy 'Centuries' still blares out. "Wow this stuff is ancient!" Rouge happily comments.

That leaves one drivers seat and both passenger seats free so Derek leaps into the passenger seat of the hog with the turret and readies his plasma out the window, he can still shoot as they drive afterall, and Steve is left driving the turret hog.

Both engines are started and the hogs are pointed at the doors...

The engins roar into life with a vengeance as Rouge and Steve floor the pedals and fly out of the large garage doors almost side by side. The doors are designed for the scorpion tank to easily pass through so the two hogs have no difficulty in flying out as they build up towards their max speed on the paved road leading out. Derek and Steve note that they are wondering "Where exactly IS the tank?"

The aliens that had survived the Assult panic, some fire as the vehicles pass while others scatter into cover however a quick curve to the side by rouge and the crystals and plasma harmlessly glance off the side of the hog, luckily Jo charged shots were fired.

As the team speeds away they clearly see the sky for the first time. To the South a large carrier is visible in the skies, flanked by smaller frigates and alien drop ships, some of which are rapidly approaching. There is also a drop ship just off the road dropping off what would have been the next wave of attackers against the garage if they had stayed any longer. In the distance they see more ships, things looks more grim than before.

They now have a choice to make, where exactly are they headed?

(Ooc: please refere to the map for info since it has been so long. There are various evac points and ways to get there. The hogs will reach and maintain top speed and maneuverability on the roads however they are very capable off-road vehicles too and other than being in forest/woods or very rocky areas will still be fast. You can easily communicate through your comms.)

Steve swings the wheel hard right and slams down the peddle, turning what could have been an easy course change I to a rather risky skid turn which he luckily makes safely for all involved as the hog leaps off the road edge and onto the shrubby grassland it was laid over. Rouge follows suit with a safer slower turn and cuts in a few metres behind the lead hog.

Their mobility is reduced along with the top speed but the hogs handle the rough terrain very well, keeping up a good pace.

With his position In the back Jackson notes that ahead on the road there are aliens dropping from a drop ship that just swooped down so they managed to avoid that however they are not avoiding the strange aircraft that they saw briefly before which is swooping in right on their tail... Jackson shouts out "Incoming Alien Aircraft!"

Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening
Post by: Forge on August 12, 2015, 11:06:44 pm
Rouge hears the shout through the comms and takes evasive action, they succeed in doing a rather nice swerve followed by seemingly random cornering to try and throw off the aim of the enemy aircraft. Steve realizes that the grunts on the ground are being rapidly left behind on the road and attempts to also do some snazzy manouvers. Steve however pretty much just does a big wide skid, looses control temporaily then finally keeps going straight meaning he didn't make his hog harder tonigt at all.

The Enemy aircraft then shows off it's nimbleness and does a swift barrel roll followed by a backflip to gain height before it's dive-bomb at the rear hog, the one Rouge is driving. Despite the awesome driving skills Rouge displayed it seems like the enemy was still able to follow them and it fires a large glowing orb which steaks towards them like a comet. A comet that Rouge swerves clear of just in time.

The orb hits the ground with a large explosion, it is clear to everyone that they REALLY don't want to be hit by it.

The aircraft then starts to pass overhead, cornering sharply to come by for another pass as Nina fires full-auto at it with her turret and Derek opens up with his plasma repeater.

Nina realizes that her gun is playing up again but a little lucky punch saves it and she fires off a full auto blast, tracking the craft through the sky, sadly missing it, Steve then opens up and fires a full auto blast of his plasma which spreads a little too much at the distance, some coming very close but not quite enough. Rouge then shouts to Nina "Nina, take it down!" And Nina feels a surge or adrenalin, spraying bullets out again, this time leading the enemy just enough to see a few bullets impact it's... Wing like protrusion... Before it dodges out of the way. She is pretty sure she saw some damage though.

Jackson looks all around and notes that their current enemy is definitely going to take another pass but also there are two enemy drop ships closing in ahead of them, he is 75% sure that they are going to cut the hogs off.

Steve righteously keeps going forward, though he slows down a bit so what he intends to do will be easier. Once the drop ships drop their troops, Steve will veer off West, for the escape that laid there for him.

Unless he thinks he can run over whatever the alien dropships put down in front of him, of course.

Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening

The enemy craft appears to dance in the air with unholy agility, defying the cadets ideas of air resistance and propulsion. It somehow manouvers into a firing position again almost instantly and fires off a stream of plasma this time, twin cannons staying out the bolts at high speed.

Rouge and Steve however are prepared and easily avoid the Attack as Nina opens fire again with a full auto. She watches her bullets streak right across the front of the craft and sparks start  flying from it's side.

The enemy seems to take enough damage to think better of this engagement and retreats for now...

Rouge and Steve are both alerted to the drops hops again by Jackson's shout. His early warning does indeed leave them a few seconds of decision time even after dodging the enemy aircraft, they could try and swing wide and avoid them altogether, they could try and ram through and splatter the enemy across their reinforced steel raming bars or they could circle close and shoot at them.

As the enemies begin to drop the team sees a whole lot of grunts, two elites and a few jackals leaping to the ground.

Steve thinks over the situation, and decides that his bloodlust cannot be ignored.

Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening
Post by: Forge on August 15, 2015, 12:02:30 am
Steve has several choices it occurs to him, not just what appeared into his mind suddenly however he chooses the most bloodthirsty option available to him and floors it right toward where the enemy are landing and preparing to engadge them. Rouge has little choice but to follow along and try to do the same, taking the left slightly behind Steve.

Derek fires off a full auto as they approach while Nina blasts off some rounds at the enemy dropship, Jackson keeps an eye on the wounded, the ride is about to get pretty rough one way or another.

With the initiative theirs the hogs plow towards the enemies, Nina's aim is true and she broadsides one of the drop ships, sadly finding that it appears to do no significant damage to the ships hull, just what would appear to be minor cosmetic damage. Derek's plasma then hits one of the crowds of grunts in a sweep that is probably his best shooting to date, 4 grunts take plasma burns, every single one failing to dodge in time and all are clearly wounded.

Then the hogs arrive, Steve aims for an elite but it swiftly dodges aside as the hog clips a grunt and a jackal, sending their bodies flying aside as the rest dodge. Rouge then skids through and hits his target, the second elite. It's shields shatter instantly and it is k Ickes back, injured but alive. His hog then also kills one more grunt but grinding it right under a type before bursting out the other side with Steve's hog.

This seems to have gone awfully well, several enemies dead already and one of their leader injured... However the enemies can still return fire...

Two grunts open fire with large weapons they are carrying over their shoulders. Jackson has the best  Jew from his back seat and one fires a large green plasma ball right past Rouge's hog, then the second heads right for Derek, Nina and Drackalicious. A last second skid avoids the worst of it however it hits the ground near the hog and it spins around, coming to a sudden stop. Steve desperately tries to move again as the fire continues.

Several shots head right for the hog, and the exposed cadets inside. Nina ducks with only a second to spare as a bolt passes where her head had been moments before however several shots impact the hog's side plating. Steve then feels the sudden shock as a green crystal appears in his shoulder before shattering. Derek is on the other side of the hog for the enemies so is not in immediate danger however he also has no line of sight on them until he either gets out or Steve gets the hog moving again.

Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening
Post by: Forge on August 18, 2015, 10:47:47 am
Steve opens fire with the needler, sending half a clip at the elite, however his wounds Drag his aim down and he does not get it to look on or track so the needles scatter above it's head as it ducks out of the way. He then sees them aiming at him again and slams the gas down, wheelspinning and speeding away as Derek turns in his seat to fire back at the crowd of aliens, sadly Steve's driving throws his aim wide and the best he manages is a few bolts hitting a Jackals shield before the gun overheats and the cooling vents pop out.

Jackson carefully checks the patients in his care and finds that they are all still stable however that could change and he notes that Steve is also looking close to passing out from his current wounds.

Rouge then swings round their hog in a full drift, allowing Nina to strafe the entire front of the alien grouping as she shouts at them in old Russian. Between the skilled drifting and her targeting she blasts full auto in a huge arc   right through the crowd at waist/ chest height (depending on the alien.) 3 Grunts and a Jackal fall under the heavy fire, whether wounded or dead Nina can't tell as Rouge lines up with Steve and they speed away North again.

Just not before they face the return fire. One large plasma ball blasts out at them but passes between the Hogs harmlessly and a sniper beam appears a few inches from Derek's head, it seems like the aliens are having difficulty with the Hogs driving patterns. Then two plasma bolts head right for the rear of the passenger hog. Jackson ducks, narrowly avoiding one as the second hits him clean in the arm causing searing pain to shoot through his body.

The Hogs then finally get out of range driving North

The team heads away North as Derek waits for his gun to cool then sprays some plasma back at the rapidly disappearing aliens. He knows he can't hit them at the increasing range but it looks good.

Jackson gives himself some first aid with the bandages and reduces the pain then checks out Steve. It looks like Steve is in pretty bad shape but is holding on for now. He will almost certainly die if he so much as falls out of the hog wrong though. His armour seems to have held... For now at least.

Nina shouts put her triumph and soon they all see the Rocky shale area ahead, large boulders and small whale hills block line of sights everywhere, the Hogs will have to go half speed to be safe.

Steve is suddenly cut off by a blinding light to the south, quickly followed by a huge explosion and a stockade which is strong enough to batter everyone and lift the Hogs onto two wheels for a second. Both Nona and Jackson have an eye on the skies so notice that once their eyes recover from the flash there are several fewer drop-ships over the base compared to before and the Frigate size ship has turned sideways in the air a little, probably from the shockwave.

There are no enemy ships near them however Jackson Notes two things

1. They were just pretty close to a nuclear explosion so they better all be getting rad-meds soon.
2. They still have several minutes of travel ahead before they reach the evacuation point and there are signs of enemy ships ahead of them.

This observation does come a couple of seconds too late as they round a small Hill to find two shield Jackals and three grunts right in their path.

Things seem to go well, the Hogs plot through the aliens too slow to get away as both Jackals turn onto lumpy smears on the ram bars of the Hogs and under their tyres. Nine then sprays her turret right across a grunt who is knocked several feet back from the sheer number of bullets it took.

Then the last two return attacks. One fires it's plasma and misses by several feet but the second throws a grenade... Which stick clean to the side of the passenger hog.

Jackson leaps clear from his seat in the rear just in time as the grenade goes off, causing the hog to roll and come to rest upside down and smoking against the nearby slope.

Jackson rolls to his feet facing the enemies as Rouge spins his hog back round for another pass.

Derek then earns his keep by dropping one of the grunts in a hail of plasma, wounding the second at the same time.

Steve is alive but KO and still in the hog. Mik... Has passed away from the grenade damage and his previous trauma.

The wounded grunt knows what is coming. The roaring vehicle that literally just crushed his brethren has swung around again with the roaring animal on the rear gun spinning up the barrel, there is the animal with one of their plasma repeaters taking aim. One is running away for cover but that won't change anything. It had destroyed one of their vehicles and probably killed some of them with it's grenade. It is a good death.

The grunt screams out a challenge as it takes aim with its plasma pistol, firing wildly at the front of the arrpoaching hog as bullets and plasma tear it to pieces.

The hog skids to a halt to allow everyone to regroup as Rouge gives the news "The Evac is just round the next hill, but you gotta see this." His words are punctuated by an alien drop ship flying Sputh overhead, probably having dropped off its troops.

The group drags Steve from the wreckage of the hog, knowing that it won't be starting again and they all edge up the hill to see their chosen evac. sight...

Orange flairs burn in a clearing of shale and loose rock making a large circle of rising smoke, a pelican comes roaring in and briefly flairs it's engines but then banks suddenly and roars away again as two of the strange alien aircraft from earlier get on it's tail and chase it from the evac. while trying to down it. They see Marines arranged in a ring withing the smoke trying to hold position against Cov. Attacks on all sides using the larger rocks and some crates as sparse cover. It is clear that the marines are being over-run with several already dead on the ground. The team heads the shouts as an officer calls retreat to Evac. Alpha when the nearest marine seems to double check his HUD and suddenly runs right at them “What the hell! I saw friendly on my HUD but you're cadets? Get out of here! This evac. Is over-run, Alphas the last one left! Go now, we will hold then long enough for you to retreat.” He turns and runs back to a rock to fire.

They are left with a choice, their surviving hog has the turret but cannot hold all of the survivors. They could head to alpha taking turns to ride or they could stay and fight. Either way, someone needs to wake Steve up without killing him.

With some attempts at waking Steve including some slapping he still does not come round so he gets shoved into the passenger seat while Nina takes the gun.

Rouge and Derek are left hanging dangerously off the side as Jackson drives.

Things actually go very smoothly until a strange aircraft is spotted coming their way just as they approach the Northern path into the woods. Jackson floors it to get up speed for evasion and Rouge and Derek both immediatly fall off, unhurt but no longer on the hog.

Nina and Jackson both notice somthing is off though, it appears less like it is dancing in the air and more like it is limping with sparks coming off it. It does however turn towards the hog for an attack.

Steve then finally makes his save roll and wakes up!

As Jackson swings around to pick up his fallen comrades Nina opens fire, her shots are good but hitting a moving target in the air is tricky and they skim by it without doing any damage. Then Rouge, who is Sprinting back to the Hog Shouts "Take it Down Nina!".

The enemy craft closes in and the entire party sees the glow forming in the front, they know this means one of theplasmabombs bs is moments from firing. Nina then hears Rouge's shout and feels energy surging just enough to take aim again... Firing a stream of full auto mounted machine gun rounds clean into the nose of the craft, turning the sleek brightly coloured ship into an explosion in milliseconds. (Nice extra sucess to finish it off there).

The team regroups and is faced with a choice, there is the open route through the trees that the hog could take, it is off road but leads right to the evac. Or they could dismount and approach on foot through the trees either to the Northeast of the open path or to the SouthWest of the open path.

Title: Re: Game Thread - A noisy Awakening
Post by: Forge on September 25, 2015, 09:21:57 pm
Jackson guns the hog through the relatively open path to the Evac, instantly dislodging his passengers once more. After collecting them and using a more sedate pace for his driving they come close to the evac point.

They hear the thrumming noise moments before hearing the heavy chain guns fire as a falcon Assult helicopter swoops overhead, blasting rounds into a banshee which quickly succumbs and explodes in the air. As the helicopter swoops the Orange smoke from the evac flairs is Funneler through its rotors, the evac couldn't be more than 50 metres away.

Unfortunately there is a small enemy vehicle along with several grunts and an elite between them and it. The enemy however has not spotted their approach due to the rather loud and dangerous human aircraft circling the sky very near them. The party gets the ambush advantage.

Things go down pretty quickly once the team moves forward, Steve sneaks closer with a fair degree of Stealth only to be instantly noticed by the elite, is seems their training goes further than just screaming commands. However that is what it does, alerting the other aliens to their presence as it sprays plasma at the hog behind Steve, deeming it the bigger threat.

The Aliens start moving and the alien vehicle moves fastest of all, firing a twin stream of plasma at Steve just as he finishes firing half a clip of needler at the elite, he dives for the ground and feels the heat of the plasma passing over him. He knows for sure that it would have killed him outright had he failed to Dodge.

Nina's  rocket then lights up the battlefield as it seems perfectly onto the front of the small hovering vehicle dealing damage right to the engine resulting in a massive explosion and shrapnel that sadly misses killing anything but definitely looks pretty damn awesome from Nina's perspective. It was worth her time training with the targeting system afterall. (Nice critical for the instakill)

Jackson is moving at the same time and swerves away from the incoming plasma, and the plasma fire from the first couple of grunts before a couple of shots finally hit the vehicle, however none stun it and Jackson is mostly protected from damage by the vehicle structure... The engine is making some strange noises though and he is sure he can see smoke from it too.

Derek and Rouge then open fire, Rouge nicely knocking a grunt back with a wound and Derek missing a blast of plasma but getting it under control for the second shot and badly burning another grunt.

The remaining handful of grunts waver but stand firm, preparing grenades and plasmas for the second round right up till the moment Steve hears the loud mix of explosion and splitting noise nearby. He lifts his head to see a pink cloud where the elite had been along with a dead grunt which had been beside it, his needles had landed too.

The grunts then break but two light up grenades in each hand and charge the party while the rest scatter...

Jackson accelerates and swerves away, hopefully avoiding the grunt/getting out of range.

Things take a rather amusing turn with the entire team (bar 1) realizing that the suicide grunts have very very short legs and can't run very fast.

Steve runs away from them as does Rouge. Jackson turns and drives away smoothly while Nina gets the free ride away from the enemy and uses the time to sling the rocket launcher over her muscular, yet femanine, shoulders and uses the mounted turret gun.

One grunt stumbles under the bullets as it keeps running while a second takes the hit to the chest and falls over, clambering to its feet and charging again while bleeding profusely. well limping, badly at least. The third is outside of the arc of fire and keeps running.

That's when the team realizes that Derek didn't get the 'run away from the slow moving suicide grunts' memo and is trying to solo them. Derek shouts "I'll get the final kill xp bonus!" Which is obviously gibberish, as he tries to fire twice at the non-limping grunts. Sadly the second he pulls the trigger on the plasma rifle it overheats and burns his hand badly causing him to drop it. Swearing to himself he pulls round the sniper and hip fires it like a shotgun only to see the bullet miss.

He realizes too late that he is out of time to run and the two grunts get close.

The team briefly hears him over their fire-team channel asking "Did I have any luck points left? I'm sure I saved one..." Before he disappears entirely in a massive explosion caused by 4 plasma grenades triggering almost simultaneously at point blank range.

The wounded grunt explodes seconds later, no-where near anything of importance as the human Attack chopper swings over to see what the commotion is about.

The remaining team has a clear run to the evac...

"Run you fools!" Steve says, following his own advice.

The team bursts through the last small bushes into the open area designated 'Evac Alpha'. There is a pelican dropship on the ground with its rear door open and waiting, several marienes already running in towards it, the team also notices two people in special black suits and armour guarding the flanks of the ramp "ODST" thinks Jackson instantly, the Human races elite drop troops chosen from the best in the military. The flairs make a large ring around the clearing as the helicopter circles around, showing off it's agility to ensure at least 1 gun is always pointing out to ward off threats.

However all these things are simply taken in at a glance, what the entire team stares at is the huge armoured human standing out in the open, right in the centre of the clearing. The instant they move into the open he has a gun trained on them and each of them gets the feeling that they are very glad they are alies not enemies. The watch him snap his attention away from them and onto three grunts that come out of the side of the clearing, they barely have time to register them before the armoured man has already dropped then with headshots from his DMR.

As they get close a marine sprints up to them "You the cadets? Get out of the hog and into the pelican now! Liftoff in 1!"

The team obey and all sprint for the pelican, running close to the armoured... Man? They realize he is over 8 feet tall. Once inside they are directed to their seats and told to strap in "Prepare for liftoff, we blast right to orbit then we are bugging out of the system, blind jump as per proticol." They are told by a man dressed in Admin staff clothing, it's strange though, he seems calmer and more collected than the marines.

The armoured man runs abourd and simply grabs a roof rail, forgoing a seat as the pelican begins to lift off before the door is even closed.

"What about the others?" Jackson shouts over the noise of the engines.

"You are the last" The armoured man replies while looking out the door

"We are the last survivors from the base?" Jackson replies shocked

"From the Planet." Is the reply. The man points out the door and the team sees the city in the distance, multiple ships flying over it with giant beams blasting down and turning it rapidly Into a barren flat wasteland. The door shuts, blocking the horrific view.

As they think on the sheer level of destruction they hear the Admin guy click open a communicator and speak quietly into it "This is Oni 3714, mission complete, no traces left." He then clicks it shut and closes his eyes before speaking quietly to the team "To put it simply, the self destruct looked normal to you and you never saw me on this planet." He then stays silent, the team knowing better than to reply or argue with an Oni agent. They simply stare at the back of the Spartan.
