Just wondering what everyone thinks of Pokemon go

When the day comes that I can use superpowered animals as personal mafia drones to one-man goldfarm millions from the hands of eager children, then I'll be excited. Until then, the prospect of paying in order to wait an hour to look for shitty pokemon that may or may not actually be in reach or even in walking range for the sake of possibly battling the two other people in town who're actually into this shit does not interest me.

I have basic info. I've seen the game. You can make in-app purchases of smelly jelly, which I can only imagine Farks over people with less money, but I've never seen it used with other players within 3 square miles. And you can also purchase more balls, which allow you to keep playing the game, basically, because there's nothing else to do but catch shit when no one else plays.
Apparently, this is how it works, from my experience.
>Friend comes over, says PG is awesome.
>Spend an eternity waiting for connection with GPS.
>Play MTG.
>Finally starts, his phone needs to be recharged.
>Charge phone, continue doing other things.
>Walk outside. Follow vague non-directions because pokemon are supposedly in the area.
>Walk for an hour throughout massive rural landscape.
>Apparently Pidgey, my least favorite pokemon in all of ever, spawns in a corner of my yard once every 3 hours. Zubat, my other least favorite pokemon, lives in my neighbor's woods somewhere. Next time I go that way, I'll have to bring a flamethrower. Obnoxious bastards.

But, I guess, if you live in a city, or a settlement of reasonable bigness, shit will show up in your house, judging from the amount of "Wait a tick, this isn't right..." vibes I've been getting from my friend. The number of pokemon per acre drops to ridiculous levels whenever there's free acres to run around in, and I could have infinitely more success playing inside pokemon, and actually playing a game, rather than walking around in public poking this embarrassing app. (And it is embarrassing, when you're the only ones doing it. I pity the fools in small towns who do this shit.) So, in my case, and probably the case of hundreds of other people, there's no point in having the game. The only thing you can do is incredibly slow, un-rewarding, and boring without money enhancements, and there's nothing you can do with these pokemon unless you go out, move to some building or other, and then challenge a bunch of people who've been at it longer than you to a battle. Not even directly, you just throw critters at the building, and any critters they've stuck to it will fight back, supposedly. How wonderful that the only gyms available are miles away. Woo hoo.

Charmander here! Also, my house has a rat infestation, so i've got three ratata and a weedle so far.
I'm getting a data plan tomorrow so I can go hunting. I'm surrounded by pokestops, including a mosque right outside my house that, in the 10 years i've lived in this house, I have not visited once.

There is a bunch of stuff right by my house I can walk to in under 200 steps :) living opposite a park helps lol
My gps is having a hard time singing right now as it starts on my wifi, wifi extends right across to a few feet into the park (I don't mess around with Internet stuff, I have a good wireless router) but once it looses that and switches over to phone signal it twitches me back to my house. Gonna try with wireless turned off tomorrow as I (currently) have an actual day off!

Hokay, so two things, lures are awesome, put one down int my house and caught a cp 40 snorlax, 28 catterpie and a freezing pigiotto. To compare I only had my starter at cp12 and one xp 10 pidgi before that. (Also got a few others but not high lvl or evolved)
Second issue, I might need a new phone. It cannot track gps signal... Seriously I'm on a freezing plateau 2000 feet above sea level and was in a park with nothing higher than me for 500metres in any direction and it couldn't find a satellite for 5 mins, even then just 1 and I gave up. It is a,so CONSTANTLY searching for them and failing so battery drains almost visibly.
Tried clearing stuff, resetting gps settings etc. but nothing works. Luckily my contract can upgrade me but I was gonna change contract hmmmm.

I captured enough rats to evolve two raticates! I have two 200 CP Evees I'll eventually evolve! I caught an Abra! A Tauros! A Magikarp (it takes 500 Magikarp candies to evolve a Gyarados D:), I caught a pidgeotto and one more pidgey will give me enough to evolve it into a pidgeot!
I also caught a ton of spearrows, enough weedlec for a beedrill, I almost have a butterfree, caught a venonat in a mosque, caught a squirtle and got a second squirtle from an egg, caught a parapas from a different egg, a few nidoran and nidorano, and a single oddish.

My gps also doesn't works but it is seemingly my phone not Pokemon go that is the issue as my God is currently not working on anything else either. Gonna get a new phone...
On a better note though, we had to run to the shops to grab a few missing ingredients for home made pizza and my wife jumped in the driver seat. My phone isn't working on the go so I grab hers. On the way there I catch her 7 more Pokemon. That is literally 1 per min. of driving!

No, there are items in the game, but a few things: you do not buy them from shops, unless it's with real money. You can get pokeballs (and eggs, incubators, a few other items) from points of interest in your city, of which there are always a ton.
You normally DO need a special item for vaporeon, flareon, or jolteon--and various other pokemon--but not in Pokemon Go. All pokemon power up and evolve by eating candy that's specific to them. Ekans and its evolution Arbok both eat Ekans candy and grow stronger from it. Eevee can eat eevee candy and either power up, or evolve into a randomly chosen one of the three main evolutions. >_> And yes. Random. I will not get a choice once I finally get enough candy to evolve it. Fingers crossed for my fave.

So forge, I just looked up the various end-stats for all the Pokemon and Snorlax is on par with the legendary bird trio (Mew and Mewto stop everything into the ground as is good and right but other than that, Snorlax is too tier). So, uh, nice XD

Pikachu was my starter. Probably the best/rarest critter I'll ever find at this rate, which sucks because he has shittier stats than the non-easter-egg starters. Not that that matters, I'll have to drive 30 minutes to get to a gym and actually use my pokemon for anything anyway. I'm hoarding pidgeys in the vague hope that I'd be able to sell them or something for advancement in the game and/or trade them for pokemon I actually like, but for now all I have are these damn birds because that's all that spawns in areas of reliable connection in my entire neighborhood.
I have about ten of them now, and I hate them all. I would rather roast them alive with barbecue sauce and feed them to the homeless, but that would be too much gameplay for Pokemon Go. Gameplay is not a thing that happens, only an illusion of play created by ball-throwing and collecting 3-D stickers that you will rarely (possibly never) do anything with.
Granted, it's a fun egg-hunt simulator if you're really in a chipper mood and you don't know the area, but you're kind of limited to your yard if you don't have an accommodating data plan, and once you've gone to the same general area, you notice its tropes and spawn points, which immediately takes put the fun because now there's only about two working places to look for one kind of Farking crawly little bastard. Maybe two, if it's a particularly big/diverse yard, but I think our yard is above average in magnitude, even for rural areas, so I'm guessing most people'll find only one kind of bubble for one kind of thing in their general lifespace.
I sure wouldn't have kept a Pokemon game where I couldn't get past the first grass patch. Sure, I could blame it on me being a lazy bastard, but my entire area for miles around is the first grass partch, except things only twiddle about once every 5 hours or so unless you're spawn-camping the little bubble in which those ungodly brown sky-chickens are shat from the deepest bowels of Aztec Hell.

(Actually, the first wild one I caught in a real pokemon game didn't have sing until I taught it to them. I instinct way knew this was wrong because it went against everything Smash had taught me. BUT THAT'S BESIDE THE POINT THIS GAME SUCKS!)

I do get into this weird phase semi-annually where I seriously consider joining cracked or some comedy or bloggy website for a while, but then I realize I have to write lists in order to get people's attention, and that puts me off it. And then, whenever I have an idea for a list, and I really feel like I'm ready to make lists in which every item is unclickable clickbait, I go to Cracked, and I check out some of their lists, and realize "Oh, wait a second, I'm not sure I want to enter this part of the market if media has evolved to the point where ridiculous lists like '4 simple reasons why it sucks to be in a self-mutilating racist death cult' and 'a point-by-point thesis regarding all the sex our writers allegedly have that our audience will probably never have' have become the standard of literary entertainment! This kind of thing just invokes Moby Dick sentences!"

Sent, I realize it was most a rant but here's some help!
You only get a few basic Pokemon appearing when you are low level and that depends on your area type. Obviously you are in an area Pidgy loves.
Pick the best one then trade in the rest for more candies, you then can level it up and evolve it. the higher evolved states like pidgiotto use the basic Pidgy candies too.
You'll find do rarer and different types as you level up :)

Also, save some pidgeys because eventually you'll have hundreds of the candies and nothing to use them on, so you can evolve your base pidgeys at the cost of 12 candies each and then get 500 exp back per pidgey! Pidgeys are the most important Pokemon in the game ;D

Forget the time that little Sentinel loved Ozymandias the Dunsparce so much that he became a level 100 murder monster who beat the elite four almost singlehandedly. That's not the point of pokemon. Pokemon go is all about showing off the pokemon you like to your friends, and then systematically murdering all of the ones you hate so you can turn them into Soylent Brown.

There's a gym at my hospital coffee shop, so many of us off at once I think it just have changed hands over 100 times in the 15 mins I was there. The second someone put a Pokemon in, it got hit and swapped. I even took it over 5 times, each time for less than 10 seconds lol.

My Dunsparce could easily Rage and flinchlock your blue furry porn star to death. Failing that, my level 70 feraligatr would leave them both with empty ribcages, because I gave him like, 80 Proteins. He was oneshotting level 40 gravellers with slash way back when he himself was level 40, and rock-types are supposed to be resistant to normal-type moves! Two best pokemon in the game, I could beat anyone with them.
Hell, if you sent out Hitmonchan first, I could just spam Rage over and over again, and when he's pwned, he'd have gathered up enough momentum to onehit your thunder-thigh ed bunny monster. Yes, I'm assuming Dunsparce could take everything Chan could dish out, but I'm willing to bet 300-something HP and a berry is enough to absorb anything the defense-based variant of an already pretty lame evolution chain could possibly dish out.
Dunsparce is best. He'll send your dolphin-faced sonic ripoff straight back to deviantart where he belongs!

Ok, the eggs are where it's at! 2 5k triggered and I got slowpoke and ponita. Also shopping malls, caught 3 abra and 3 eavee while there along with the usual drivel. I then checked the drivel and a couple more pidgy and I get a Pidgiot which is a fairly strong Pokemon for my level so bonus!

You seem to be leaving out the three times that I defeated you in glorious combat. You literally couldn't even utilize a robot army against a couple of puppies.
Plus there were those other times I beat you in not-so-glorious combat, like I did with the frog army.

So just went out with the wife and a couple of friends to a coffee shop being touted as the Pokemon Centre of the city. 4 pokestops within a few feet.
So constant 4 lures active and the place is packed, I went with about 85 poke balls and clicked on the stops every few mins for more but still kept running out of then I caught so many.
Got an electro electrobuz and a few semi-rares along with enough Pidgys to evolve up 4 Pideots so I could pick the best moves then still had enough candy to get it to 650ish...
Seriously the way forward, overlapping lures!

The game hates me. None of the places I normally go to is close to a pokestop. I mean, I could walk for 5 minutes to one, but I tried that before and it went like this:
- Walk to pokestop
- Wonder what I do now
- Spin the wheel
- Get 3 pokeballs
- Wild Ratata appears
- Escapes the first two that hit him because hes a CP10 beast
- Headbutts the 3rd
In other words, this game hates me.
