Title: Origins and GenCon 2010
Post by: BerkaZerka on December 14, 2009, 12:17:44 pm
Hi all - we will be attending both Cons again this year  ;D

Things are looking good for an even better year for the BHB Merc Squad.  I plan on running four BHB events at each convention with at least one or two of those being brand new, never before seen, adventure sessions.

I'll post more here as it comes together (Origins needs to get its site up soon).  Hope to see a few folks out there again (or for the first time even) - come out and play our events and if you don't have one already, get a signed copy of the Bounty Head Bebop RPG.

In addition to BHB Adventure Sessions, I'll be running some other events - an i20 (BHB) Conan The Barbarian Pirate Adventure, my d20 Call of Cthulhu convention classics - Bad Seed and Call of PikaChulu - and if I get it finished, a d20 Call of Cthulhu Spongebob Squarepants parody - The Call of SpongeThulu.

[Boast Mode]
The BHB Merc Squad runs the best damned RPG events at any Con - BHB or any other system for that matter.  Our events rock, our swag rocks, and our players rock.
[/Boast Mode]  ;D

Lady Z and I are now registered for Origins 2010 (earlybird is the way to go)  ;D

I also just noticed a preliminary outline for a BHB adventure I was working on a while back, featuring the Venture Brothers as the Bounty Head.  Not sure I have the time to flesh it out the rest of the way for one of the Cons, but is anyone interested?

The tentative plan for me is to be at GenCon 2010, so I'll make sure to grab a seat for the BHB game then.

And I am ready and willing to defend my title in Cthulhopoly against all comers! Bwahahaha!!!  ;D

2010 Conventions

I’m not sure what I’ll be running yet for the 2010 Conventions, but here is a tentative list (it may change, but these are what I’m leaning towards) –

(BHB) Mountain Man Mayhem
The Bounty is a Callisto Mountain man known as Jeremiah Jackson, wanted for disrupting lumber operations and poaching. Why the corps are bothering to bring him in at all, rather than just sending in a professional to take him out, is anybody’s guess. Overall, it’s generally a bad idea to mess with the Callisto Mountain Men, but the writ is good and you need the work.

(BHB) Fortune Cookie Fix
A cryptic message hidden in a fortune cookie leads the crew on a chase to capture a notorious Jovian drug lord.  The seven and a half million writ bounty on him singing its siren song across the solar system – drawing rookie and veteran cowboy alike to a silent and hidden death…  Can you track him down where everyone else has failed?

(BHB) Don't Spare The Lead
Having uncovered the hidden location of the system’s most powerful drug lord, the crew must now find a way into his heavily fortified estate in order to put the collar on him and get everyone out alive.  Easier said than done of course... better bring the heavy artillery, just in case.

(i20 Fantasy) Bane Treasure of The Vampire King
Adventurers and Mercenaries wanted for dangerous work in the world of Conan the Barbarian – Generous pay for those what survive.  Come sail the savage seas and brave the gauntlet of dread pirates aboard the newly commissioned Whelmcrest in search of high adventure and legendary treasures.

(i20 Fantasy) Brigands of Spider Wood
Brigands are holed-up in the old dwarven stronghold north of Spider Wood.  Legend claims a vast treasure is hidden there.  Can you defeat the brigands and discover the treasure before they do?

(d20 Call of Cthulhu) Bad Seed
Pulp Cthulhu in a wealthy Connecticut town, 1928. Kidnappers, baby snatching cultists, or alien abductors – what’s happening to the local children? Find out – and please, try not to get eaten!

(d20 Call of Cthulhu) Call of PikaChulu
Join Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu as they investigate the origins of a strangely mutated Pokemon captured by Professor Oak. A humorous adventure of cuddly madness and doom.

(BHB) Penguins of Madagascar Mythos Madness
Lions and tigers and tentacles, oh my!  Something stirs in New York’s Central Park; its smoky tendrils of evil even now seeping into the adjacent Zoo – home to those covert karate-chopping penguins; Skipper, Private, Kowalski, and Rico.  Can they fight back the Mythos and save the world?

And of course, I'll be bringing Cthopoly.

Anyway – let me know what appeals to you.  If there is any call for running other BHB Sessions, I may be up for requests :)

Yes, as far as I know.  I've never had them changed on me before (though I got a last minute location change once at GenCon 2008 that killed my Call of PikaChulu game dead).

Should be good to go here however  :)

Ah yes, I remember the Great Game Shuffle of 2008. Yours wasn't the only game that got scuttled because of it.  :P

Thanks. After spending most of my time at GenCon last year running games, I plan to actually play games this coming year, so I'll make every effort to sit in at least one of your sessions.

You have been warned.  ;D

Well, last year I ran 5 sessions of Hollow Earth Expedition (from Exile Games (http://www.exilegames.com/)). They schedule the games and I jump in and run them.

I also ran a session of Desolation (http://desolationrpg.com/), which uses the same system as HEX. In fact, that's what I had just finished running when I came by your table to see Bill.

This year I'll probably try to keep to no more than two (maybe three) so I can actually get some gaming of my own done.

Once I find out which sessions I'll be running, I'll let you guys know.

I like to have some time to game with him as well, see what else there is out there as well. ;D He is calming down though, only six games this time. ( Instead of ten or eleven). Nuts I tell ya. :D

Okay, I'm starting to set down my GM schedule for GenCon.

At this point, I'm on the board for four slots: Thursday 8AM-12PM, Thursday 4PM-8PM, Friday 8PM-12AM, and Sunday 8AM-12PM. Don't know yet what I'm running, but based on my previous HEX exploits, it should rock.

I purposefully left my schedule open so I can try to get on a number of your games. We'll see what I get in on  once registration starts. Expect to see quite a bit of me!  ;D

Will do.

The EGS folks tend to come up with these great trilogy runs. You don't have to do all three, but it's neat to see the metaplot running through them.

Don't know yet if they're planning to do it again this year, but if the previous ones are any indication, they should be a blast to play and run.  ;D

Intresting system with the dice mechanic.  Do you use the special dice?  I'd be interested in giving it a whirl  :)

BZ

Yeah, that was one of the things that struck me first about the system. The Designer, Jeff Combos, previously worked with White Wolf, so he has an affinity for dice pools. The two things that make the Ubiquity System's dice mechanics so neat to me are: you can use any dice with an even distribution of numbers, and you can Take the Average for non-dramatic situations. You'd be amazed how that speeds up things like combat.

The Ubiquity dice are cool, too, and while they're not necessary, they can speed up dice rolling even further.

Tell you what. If for some reason you can't make any of the games, I'll gladly run a pick-up run for you guys.  ;D

BZ

Right there wit'cha, sir. It's using Fudge dice that makes me leery of playing Spirit of the Century (another otherwise cool pulp RPG; in fact, it was created locally a town or two over from Baltimore).

Just to spoil the suspense, here's the skinny on the Ubiquity dice:

Keep in mind that in HEX, each die in the pool has a 50% chance of success. The convention we use is an even number indicates a success and an odd number a failure.

For instance, the Skill rating for the task the character is about to attempt is 8. The player grabs eight dice (four-sided, six-sided, twenty-sided, whatever), rolls them, and counts how many came up evens. That's the roll result to be compared against the Difficulty of the task.

Ubiquity dice come in three colors: white, red and blue (very patriotic, yes?). White dice have only 0's and 1's; it's equivalent to rolling one regular die. Red dice have a distribution of 0, 1 and 2; they're statistically the same as rolling two regular dice. Blue dice have 0, 1, 2 and 3; rolling one is the same as rolling three regular dice.

So, following the example above, the player needs to roll a dice pool of eight. He can roll two blue dice and a red, or four reds, or one blue, two reds and a white, or even eight white; any combination that adds up to eight dice. He rolls, adds the numbers and voila! you have your roll result much quicker and easier.

The real beauty of the dice becomes clear when your dice pools get large (as can happens when your character is a true pulp hero). I'll leave working out the combinations for a dice pool of 15 as an exercise for the reader.  ;D

Pretty nifty  :)

So given your typical pool limit, and maximum efficiency, how many of each color should a GM have at the ready?

For Example: If 20 was the upper limit - All you would need is six red, a single white, and a single blue (which allows you to generate everything between 1-20)

I suppose. EGS sells them in tubes with 3 each.

I've bought at least one tube every year at GenCon since the game came out, so right now I have a healthy amount of them to bring to my demos. :)

No registration, badges, or anything that requires fine-tuning until after the trade show though (no point getting it wrong now, when you’d be too busy to address it properly).

You ask and I respond! Event registration opens THIS Sunday!! So if you don't have your badges you'd better buy them NOW to make sure your account is set up and ready to go. The event listing was released this week. Here's the event ID's and info for all my sessions:

I am running 4 sessions of Conan. They are all in the Hyatt.

Thursday : RPG1009068  Do You Have A Flag?     2pm to 6pm       This session is a Generics Only/Ladies Only session. For girls who maybe are new to RPG's or just would like a game with other ladies.   All other sessions are open and ticketed as normal.

Thursday:  RPG1009069  Do You Have A Flag?    8pm to midnight

Friday : RPG1009141     A Gross Affair In Argos      10am to 2pm

Okay, I'm starting to set down my GM schedule for GenCon.

At this point, I'm on the board for four slots: Thursday 8AM-12PM, Thursday 4PM-8PM, Friday 8PM-12AM, and Sunday 8AM-12PM. Don't know yet what I'm running, but based on my previous HEX exploits, it should rock.

I purposefully left my schedule open so I can try to get on a number of your games. We'll see what I get in on  once registration starts. Expect to see quite a bit of me!  ;D

Got any event numbers for these yet Nestor?

Not yet, but I did put the word out to get some more info. I just generally run what EGS sets up.

If registration goes into gear before I get an answer, just look for sessions using "Hollow Earth Expedition" as the game system.
Title: Re: Origins and GenCon 2010
Post by: Nestor on April 10, 2010, 05:43:34 pm
Okay, I'll be running The Nemo Diaries on those slots. HEX goes Victorian! To save you the trouble, here's the synopsis of the run:

Experience the thrill of Hollow Earth Expedition in the time of Sherlock Holmes. A few zealots believe that Nemo was not a work of fiction. Those same people are willing to do anything to possess the work found in the diaries. Can you survive the London social scene, a Jules Verne inspired high jacking, dealings with a shadowy underground figure, and an auction filled with the most despicable criminals the London underworld has ever spawned?

The event numbers are, in chronological order: RPG1013550, RPG1013552, RPG1013553, and RPG1013554.

Event reg has been very problematic and painful this year. I am still waiting for them to fix the checkout errors so I can buy what events I managed to get after almost 2 hours of trying.

Blargh!

BUT I am happy and SHOCKED that all my open Conan events sold out in the first 2 hours of reg going live! Wow. Makes me a little more nervous now.

LadyZ do not fear, bring a couple generics to my game , I'm sure there will be no shows. If a miracle happens and all 6 players show up I will bring an extra character so that you can play no matter what!

Long live favoritism!!!

Holy crow things went fast! Dave and I haven't even sat down to register for events yet and most of them got snapped up! We are both going to be there and Dave's wifey is coming along too! If there's room at the table for one of your evening BHB events, BZ, we three will be there with generic tickets in in hand.

Cthopoly calls to me too..

I am also hip deep in writing a game myself, based on FATE/Diaspora. Mebbe I can lob some text at you and/or we could sit down for a character building session, if any of you fine BHB folk have the time. It originally started as a Diaspora/Amber Diceless mash-up, but have since then filed off the Amber serial numbers, changesd the powers, and made it my own thing. We've had one sit down session of character building for the first iteration, and all three guys liked how it went along. Now that I have taken out the Amber references, it might be much more accessable for the non-Zelazny fans.

Hopefully next week I will have a second character building session with a larger group and we'll see how that goes. :D

How many months/years did you work on BHB before making the jump to publication?

Hey, Triple B (BBB AKA Bounty BaboonBill)  ;D

Your post deserves a solid answer (which I'll get to later tonight), but in short for now, two things -

One: we started the dream in 2003 and finally published in the later end of 2008 - so five years - ouch!  But then I was holding out for the CB License and when that was clearly not going to happen, things actually went pretty fast (published within a year)  :)

Second: Do you and yours want me to run a pick up game of Penguins of Madagasgar Mythos Madness on Sunday (Morning or Afternoon)?

And Cthopoly is good to go as well  :)

I look forward to running games and meeting folks at the Cons this year (especially because it's neat to finally put a face with a name that you may have been familiar with online for years but never met in person)  :)

I plan to stay Sunday night and head back on Monday. Traditionally, I hang around the Dealer's Hall until closing, doing some last-minute shopping and helping the EGS guys take down the booth afterwards. But I could be convinced to do one more game instead. ;)

A Sunday morning game might be quite agreeable, since I believe we are staying overnight at a nearby hotel Saturday.

EDIT: We're not sure if it will be a Friday to Saturday overnight or Saturday to Sunday. It depends on Dave's (Santos Caine) wife's work schedule.

I will bend to whatever schedule that allows us all to game together again! I'm as excited as LadyZ!

If you can swing a Saturday/Sunday stay, then Sunday is open for morning or afternoon for me to run any of my games you choose.  You want a lead flying firefight from start to finish, then Don't Spare The Lead is the one for you.  Fortune Cookie Fix also has a nifty firefight at the end, after an investigation heavy first half.  If you want zany horror humor (but alas, no lead - though there are flamethrowers and iron bombs) - my Penguins/Cthulhu is the ticket.

If you cant do the Sunday thing, then I suggest grabbing up the last 3 tickets for Fri 08:00:00AM Mountain Man Mayhem (RPG1008461) and I'll make sure it ends with a bang  ;D

Just let me know -

If a space opens up you are definitely first in line (though I do have to stick with six players on the Penguins game).  My other games can handle up 7 or even 8, so I can usually squeeze more seats into those.

It's the Fat Dragon booth. They sell 2d and 3d build your own sets. Like towns, dungeons, etc etc etc. they have TONS of stuff. You buy the disc or download and then print out what you want to make on cardstock. Cut, fold, glue, and you have insta props! If you haven't seen them before make sure to stop by and check it out. ;)

I'll be helping work the booth from 11am to around 4. Hopefully I may even be in a costume of some sort if I get the time and funds  :D

That's awesome, Nestor! We are sitting down tonight to see what we want to do. There will be a lot of Pathfinder Society, as those generally will allow for many players. We will try to party-crash one of your games if you have any room for doing so.

It looks like Dave's wife will not be comign after all, and we're mulling over driving over all three days we plan on going instead of renting a hotel for one night. It will probably be cheaper (if more tiring).

Still plan on a Sunday morning game with you, BZ. What time do you want to sleep in until? We won't bother you and the LadyZ until you are ready..

Besides, we will be driving back in again in the morning for it.

>GENCON<
Dave and I have finalized our GenCon planning! We will be driving out to Indy (and back) on Friday for one game, then heading back early early Saturday morning and staying overnight Saturday.

We currently have three Pathfinder games already purchased: Friday 1 PM-6PM, Saturday 8AM-1PM, and 7PM-Midnight. That leaves us 6 hours to browse the retail floor on Saturday afternoon, purchasing goodies and drooling over wishful purchases. We'll head back to the hotel after midnight, and be fresh for the gaming Sunday morning. Whatever time you guys want! Maybe 9ish? Give us all enough time to sleep in a little and eat breakfast? (or brekfisk as my kids say)

Faepookah, we'll be sure to stop by and say hi at the booth.

Azreih, unfortunately all the slots of your Pantheon game that still have tickets available are during our already scheduled times. Any interest in getting together on Sunday? Maybe we all could get together for a Pantheon game after Nestor finishes his morning game? I dunno, just spitballing ideas here..

I still need my revenge on Nestor for stealing my win on Cthopoly. >:)

>ORIGINS<
My wife has a week long spirituality class this week, so as of right now I am definitely coming up on Saturday and probably on Sunday. Maybe Friday after she finishes he last class. I'll be bringing my 16 yr old nephew up for some Pathfinder goodness on Saturday and the Sunday if he wants, but no tickets have been purchased yet.
Maybe we can get in on a Penguins game at Origins? I have to call him and discuss what he wants to do..

PS: I may have a working and playtested version of my FATE game ready by Origins or Gencon if any want to give it a whirl. Working title is Halcyon: Shattered Reality.

I can not keep off of the origins site. It has that timer to countdown the days. That is when my vacation starts. WELL NEEDED and deserved I might add.  Full time CNA, 4 kids, college student, etc. You get the picture!!!! ;D

Relax. Lady Z.

Remember, stress is only the confusion created when one's mind overrides the body's basic desire to choke the living daylights out of some jerk who desperately deserves it.  ;D

BZ is putting a lot of organization and preparation into these games for the cons. I hope everyone appreciates the quality of the character sheets and maps and such.  :) He goes all out for these ordeals. I am getting very excited to play games, it is time for the reality break. Anyone that is playing BHB games I guarantee you will have a blast. Great GM and fun adventutres. There are some I have yet to play as well and I live with him, so I am looking forward to seeing the top secret adventure I can,t read yet  :P

From Down Periscope (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116130/):

Rear Admiral Yancy Graham: Now, call me a prude if you want, but I don't think it's good policy for the Navy to hand over a billion-dollar piece of equipment to a man who has "Welcome Aboard" tattooed on his penis.

and...

Adm. Winslow: What do you think, Mr. Dodge?
Cmdr. Dodge: I think I'm gonna get my ass kicked, sir.
Adm. Winslow: Aw, don't think like that! Damn it to hell, don't go by the book! Think like a pirate! I want a man with a tattoo on his dick! Have I got the right man?
Cmdr. Dodge: By a strange coincidence, you do, sir.

and...

Lt. Emily Lake, Diving Officer: So what's that tattoo that I've heard so much about?

We saw BaboonBill. It was cool. Did not get to play with him yet til Gen Con because his wife is not a gamer and he had birthday obligations to her. Wifes come first, always. ;D

I was watching a game BZ was running and I was approached by a typical gamer geek who said to me " you must be a spouse ( cause I looked bored at the moment, and I was  ;))" and I replied " I am".  I informed him that I had nothing to do at this time and proceeded to pull out my stack of gaming tickets for future fun I planned on being involved in. He said he was jealous and my husband was a lucky guy to have a gaming wife. I did not realize what a precious commodity that was to a gamer.  ;D

Indeed it is, but just as important is having a spouse who not only understands the gamer lifestyle but is willing to support it. For instance, GenCon falls right around our wedding anniversary, but my wife is willing to see me go away for four-five days during that time regardless.

But the biggest thing she's done lately is organize a RPG night for her home-school group to help teens, and their parents, get introduced (or for some, re-introduced) to gaming. She calls the event Roleplaying: Exploring the Worlds Beyond Dungeons and Dragons. We had our first get-together last Friday, where I ran a demo for Hollow Earth Expedition that was well-received.

Did I mention I love my wife very much?  ;D

The main hold-up for both of us going to GenCon is, as it is for most parents, What To Do With The Kids. She would probably enjoy coming along, but not if she just ends up running herd on the brood while I run stuff. ;)

As for the kids' interest in gaming, it's been a mixed bag. My oldest is the artist and mostly does diary-type games, where she can write to her heart's content. My second likes more strategic stuff; her preferred games are ones like Talisman and Descent. Daughter #3 is the social butterfly; she games because it's fun to be with other folks.

The youngest... ah, she's the blossoming GM. She spends most of her time gaming with her friends over the phone! She discovered MMO's at an early age and now I have to fight over the computer with her. She wants me to run games for her and her friends, but I'm frankly intimidated by her level of imagination. I don't think I could keep up with her!  ;D

Yup, 4 kids all girls. This is where I usually pause for the inevitable sympathy noises from the audience. ;)

Ages range from 25 (she just had her b-day last weekend), 20, 17, down to 11. The only males in the household have been me and the cat. And the cat's been fixed. Why do they call it "fixed", anyway? It's not like anything was broken.  ;D

Nestor here's how we've handled  taking all of us to Origins.  Me running stuff and the wife goat (kid) herding didn't work.   What has worked is eiter i run limited games either very late f very early when she done ith the co or still sleeping... I run all my games on one day and she get the rest of the weekend to do as she wants... I go the first two days alone or with the boy (he's the player) and she comes on Friday afternoon with the two girls and I play/run nothing on Saturday/Sunday so she can have fun.  Or I run nothing and we take turns playing/wrangeling.   it seems to work best when I'm not running.

Oh, and I haven't forgotten everyone who won some swag at Origins - I'll be emailing/mailing that all out as soon as I get things organized in a day or so.

BZ

Emails have been sent out, though I have encountered a problem with a few.  If you are waiting for swag and it has not arrived already, I'll be keeping an eye on it and resending if it doesn't sort itself out in the next day or so.

The Rundown

As many of you know, Origins really dropped the ball this year with their online registration – which was (to be polite) a total cluster-quack.  This not only had a readily apparent impact on attendance, but also on the quality of customer service throughout.

Wednesday and Thursday was like a barren wasteland, with RPG rooms of 8 – 16 tables having only one or two tables running at any given time.  Friday picked up a bit and Saturday seemed like a normal year at the con.

Our BHB events went off and were a lot of fun, with two exceptions.  First, due to the descriptions being chopped by GAMA and me not noticing till a week later, I had zero seats pre-regged for Mountain Man Mayhem.  One person did sign up for it at the con, but one player does not a game make, so Lady Z and I jumped in on a nearby discworld game with said player and we all had a blast – just not with my event.

The other problem we ran into was an overkill of planning for a pretty straightforward shoot-em-up adventure.  I’m going to point this out better at GenCon.  The adventure ‘Don’t Spare The Lead’ is a ‘go in guns a-blazing’ adventure.  As long as I better portray this the next time we run it, I hope to avoid the three hours of laborious planning for an assault that took only 45 minutes to complete once it began…

Fortune Cookie fix was a lot of fun though, as was our i20 Fantasy game Brigands of Spider Wood – I was really happy with how our Fantasy rules fit right into the genre and the new Hexslinging rules didn’t overbalance the other characters – that and the priestess was pretty badass ;)

Finally, our Penguins of Madagascar Mythos Madness game was a complete riot.  The players really got into character and it felt like watching an episode on TV – only with squamous horrors and Cthulhu thrown in.  I can’t wait to run this again at GenCon.

Overall it was a lot of fun and good gaming

Haloo! Glad to see you two there on Staurday. No, I missed out on the Poo as well.  ;)

I have to be honest, I was mad and insulted listening to you describe the Penguins of Madagascar to the table of players. How dare they sign up for a game and had no idea what the tv show was about or had never seen the frikken Madagascar movies! For cripes sake! Those seats were like gold and they took them from people (like me) who had been boning up on the show, practicing the voices of the characters, just on the chance I could play in the game.. razzum frazzum..

At least they all got into it after I left. :'(

Anywho.. My nephew and I had fun playing Pathfinder games, though the second game was marred by a bitchy older dude who got snappy whenever the GM didn't allow him to whip out his I WIN button. Plus there were two other Pathfinder Society members who really seemed to just want to play with each other's charaters and ignored the rest of us unless we desperately needed healing. The first game we played (before visiting with the Zerkas) was awesome though. Lots of laughs, roleplaying, and tense combat.

Friday I made it up for part of the day and was lucky enough to get into a pick-up game of the Dresden Files run by one of the writers of the game, Ryan Macklin (the lead project developer) and co-chaired by Chad Underkoffler (the lead setting developer)! It was a blast! :D

Nestor, that's awesome that your kids have an interest, especially since they all have different interests around the hobby.

My oldest is 8, and she played her first game of Small World with me, my sister and brother-in-law on Sunday. She played with my sister for her first game, but went solo for the second, and came in second place! I was proud of her. :D

It was nice of you to stop by - and we'll save ya a seat at GenCon (even if it means placing a beartrap on the chair) ;D

I got to admit though, I wonder what sold folks (who had never seen Penguins of Madagascar) on the game, other than a few had played BHB before.  But yes, once we gat started, they got into the right spirit and it was loads o' fun  8)

Well, I got my paid seat for the Penguins run at GenCon, but if it gets down to it, I'm willing to rassle Bill for the ticket.  ;D

I was hoping to get into one of the Dresden Files runs at GC, especially since the Evil Hat bunch are almost local boys (just one town over in Frederick) and the campaign is set in my own town (Bawl-mur, as it's called by the natives), but the furshlugginer tickets sold out quicker than Viagra at an AARP convention.  :D

Re: my kids. Yeah, it helps that gaming is a very visible thing in our household, what with us hosting games on a weekly basis and my gaming books taking up one-quarter of the dining room space. It's only one-quarter 'cause the rest are either in the other bookshelf in the finished part of the basement or in boxes in the unfinished part of the basement. :)

Just to let everyone who may not know in on the fun....

If you are coming to Indy early, there are FREE games being run pretty much all day Wednesday. Organized and sponsored by the Kentucky Fried Gamers. With the fantastic support of the restaurants - Ram Brewery and Scotty's Brewery.

Check out the GenCon forums, under the KFG for a listing of all the games/times/locations. Sign ups begin this weekend on the forums. There will be a separate thread for each game, simply make a post that you would like a seat. Games typically take 6 - 7 players. Once all the seats have been claimed the game is full.

You do not need to be a member of the KFG to join in the fun. All we ask is that if you sign up for a game YOU SHOW UP!! You WILL BE HEXED if you are a no show. If something happens that you can not make it please post so that someone else can take your seat.

Berka we're games at the Ram fro 9-1 and 1-5.   And at Scotty's from 1-5 with a party at Sctty's from 6 till whenever.  Actuually I think there are couple of parties  1 Hosted by Fat Dragon Games/KFG and and and Exile Games Studio GM get together.   So I'm thinking 1-5 at Scotty's or 2-6 would be the only really good slot.  ANd if you don't want to run but are looking to play your welcome to sign up for anything...  I think signups start tomorrow.  Pookas running Conan and I'm running "Lost on Gilligan's Island of the Dammned"- Think Gilligan's Island/Lost/Cthulhu.

Yes RBree I demand that we get to meet finally!! I owe you Pooka hugs. Looking forward to seeing the rest of you as well.

The Scotty's games are only running 1-5 pm. Probably because they have to do party setup after that. The KFG/Whos yer gamers/Fat Dragon party is from 8pm to 11pm.

I plan on running my game and then going back to my room for a nap before the party.  ;D  My voice and throat always gets trashed when I GM and it's even worse this year. I'm running 5 of them including the Scotty's one!! Errgh.  Plus I talk VERY little now, being alone most of the day, so when I do have a conversation it tires my voice.

I'm going to have to start singing a little more each day up to the con or I will never make it.

Could be. You never know! I would bring it. There are ALWAYS no shows and if someone's game is canceled then it'd be nice for the GM to have something to play.

I'm torn between hoping more people sign up for my game so I can actually run it, and hoping no one else signs up so I can just play someone elses'. LOL

But mostly I hope I get some peeps. Cause an awesome lady signed up and I would love to run for her.

Ew  :P

Reminds me of the time I went to a superbowl party where everyone was drinking beer.  As the non-drinker, I brang a six pack of mountain dew and a six pack of dr. pepper.  As the evening progressed, I slammed back six or seven cans (basically keeping up can-wise with the drinkers) and (as I rarely drink cafinated beverages), paid for it by staring wide-eyed and twitchy at the ceiling all night after I had gone home and went to bed.  I did not even come near to dozing the whole night and had to work the next day  ::)

Lady Z and I have a tradition of always buying new dice at each Con.  Me, I'm Jone'zin for a set of the giant gem kind, probably red - while Lady Z is looking at getting a giant set of the black and yellow "Steelers Dice" to match her smaller set.

Lady Z by the way, has become such a gamer since she met me, that she recently had to get a bigger dice bag cause the old one ran out of space for all her dice  ;D

The new one is a custome made Steelers Dice Bag, that could probably hold 200 dice!  (And it's already a third full) - hehehe  ;D

Scandelous I tells ya - Scandelous!  :D :D

I might pick up a set at GenCon, but funds be tight. I usually keep 2 full sets in my dicebox, plus extra d6s matching the sets. Once a set has experienced a few years of good rolls, I retire it to the communal dice box we keep at the gaming table which I call the DICE BOX OF DOOM!! (often shortened to the DBOD).

One of the guys in our gaming group is a woodcrafting hobbyist, and has made all of us each a unique and beautiful dice box. I'll post pics later.

I had to have a custom made dice bag. No one else has a Steeler Bag like me. I know you are all jealous!!!!!!! :P

I am buying a big set of Steeler dice to match my new bag  ;D

So to reiterate, Lady Z and I have an open schedule at the Con on Sunday.  We would like to get together with anyone who has the time to play a pickup game of BHB (any of the events I am running at the Con – your choice)

or,

if we want to keep it under two hours, to play a couple of rounds of Cthopoly – Fast Paced Mythos Fun; one to two hour games, guaranteed to finish in world ending madness. Monopoly with a Cthulhu twist - collect cultish assets (followers, dark gods, and legendary places), rather than properties. Lose or build sanity, rather than money. Squamous blast your opponents to steal their cultish assets. Appease Azathoth or watch him devour the world. More fun than monopoly has a right to!

Let’s make some plans here  :)

I am running a session in the morning 0800-1200, and traditionally meet up with friends in the afternoon and help take down their booth, but I'd be willing to spend the time with y'all instead, if that works for you.

After all, I wouldn't want to deprive Lady Z the pleasure of Squamous Blasting me to a quivering pile of jelly.  ;D

What do you think?

I'm sorry. I thought I had mentioned this before.

With all due respect, I consider most professional sports in the US to be a disease, similar to compulsive gambling. Cities are spending billions of dollars maintaining these teams and stadiums while schools and fire stations are closing due to lack of funds. I mean, really, explain to me what the hell does a basketball player do that's important enough for him to be paid a salary greater then the President of the United States!  >:(

If I woke up tomorrow to find the major leagues (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL) had ceased to exist, I would not shed a tear.

I understand that folks have a soft spot for their sports teams. I just don't share the appeal.

Sorry for being a downer; this happens to be a hot-button issue with me. Don't mind the crackpot. Carry on.

So, I would say that is a no  ;)

Lets agree not to get into this discussion further though, as it could be a hot issue on may different levels.  In general, we want to avoid political/religious/real world ideology discussion on the threads in anything greater than passing.

So let’s consider this 'passed' before it starts :)

Thanks you,

The Management

This is my fourth or fifth GenCon. My first trip was to Milwaukee the last year GenCon was there; I (very foolishly) drove both ways solo. The next time I went, I flew to Indy, repeated that the next year, then drove last year (and will this year). My in-laws live in VT, so I'm used to doing ~9 hour drives for traveling. :)

I've actually not made it to DragonCon yet. I can really only afford one con a year, and I've chosen GenCon each time. ;)

As far as driving goes, we get there just fine, the way home on the other hand; us old fogeys needed to stop about every 20 minutes and take a snooze. That is of course after sleeping through the exit we missed ( passenger and driver) and we had to go an extra 40 miles to get back on track. This is why I will be calling off on Monday. :)

I work Sun, Mon and Tues.  :(  I have to do the bulk of my preparations today. Gotta go to Wally World for snacks and stuff. Apparently I am known at these here conventions for my delicious wonderful snacks. I had a girl remember me for the great variety of chocolate and junk that I provide at our games.( just another small incentive for playing :) ) This year it is chocolate as usual, rainbow twizzlers, cheezy poofs, pepsi and I think I am gonna make mini-pepperoni rolls this year. Great for snacking and filling as well for those long days where there is no time to eat( some nutrition included :) ).

LOL LadyZ. I provide candy for all of my games as well. It's an idea I stole from Big Daddy Thwack games. They always provided candy.

This year it's Japanese fruity gummies (I am so addicted!), some dove chocolate, and smarties. I will also be baking banana bread muffins and some super duper healthy whole weat-Goji berry-Ginger-Walnut cookies. To provide energy and nutrition on the go.

Yeah! What she said  ;D Sounds great Suzi  :)

Mini pepperoni rolls are great. You make dough, put in pepperoni and cheese and bake. You can add some variety though; banana peppers are a big hit, you can make sausage and cheese rolls, spinach and cheese rolls, almost any kind you can think of. I am picky though. Ask BZ :) I would rather die than eat things that are funkified. Funkified means to me anything that includes any sort of mayonaisse or has ucky peppers and onions and do not forget the oh so fungisy mushroom grown in you know what  :P I hate seafood; I might as well quit now because I can name fewer things I like than I don't :)

ps: never eat chicken without dissecting it first    WORDS OF WISDOM!!!! :)

Come on convention, bring on the snacks!!!!

Hi all, here’s my Official Rundown™ for Gen Con 2010 –

Lady Z and I arrived Wednesday and picked up our badges.  Once again we were much glad that we had them mailed to us, as the Will Call Line was a monster.  I had to go to the GM Line to pick up my GM badge, but it was only two people long when I got there :)

All of our events were full and much swag (including many T-shirts) was given away.  The best part for me was not only getting to meet face-to-face some of the folks I’ve previously known only online, but getting to play with them too.

I finally got to meet Thayan, Ronin84, and Rbree, as well as seeing FaePooka (sweet costume BTW, snake whip and all), Nestor, Bounty BaboonBill, and santoscaine again.  It was awesome playing with these guys and even cooler just getting to know them better over lunch ;D

I missed azhrei331, but we were both busy with our games – so azhrei331, let us know how Pantheon went  8)

I didn’t care much for our location in the Crowne Plaza with the train constantly rumbling through.  For 2011 I’m going to request all of our events be in the Hyatt Studios again like they were last year.

Lady Z got tons of cool pictures, some of which we will be posting in a thread here on the Comlink.  I still have to email out some swag and post the Brigands of Spider Wood Adventure on the site as well.

Overall, it was a great year for BHB and I look forward to doing it all again next year ;D

Two awesome quotes from the games -

Nestor, when it looked like the group was quickly on its way to overplanning the heck out of the simple assault on Wong's Fortune Cookie Works in the Fortune Cookie Fix adventure, got everything back on track and changed the feel of the entire adventure by pointing out this sweet observation of BHB :

" Don't think Seal Team; think 'A' Team "

Lady Z in our Penguins of Madagascar Mythos Madness game, playing Private when the group was trying to defeat a monstrously mutated Darnell the Elephant - upon driving the penguins' pink dune buggy under the elephant :

Private:  “ I hit him in the ‘lucky charms.’ ”
Rico:  “ His private parts?!? ”
Private: “ Of course, ‘parts’ is my middle name… ”

Awesome ;D

Is it wrong that I want to totally dress up like Nestor with a safari jacket and pith helmet for next year's conventions?

 ;D

Heh. You missed me wearing my spiffy red fez. My teen daughter insists I must cosplay as Sallah from Raiders of the Lost Ark next year.  ;D

Penguins was a blast. That is a good way to end a day...Humor! Fun! and Horror! What else is there in life? Time to look ahead to Con on The Cob!! I usually make my kids go with us. One each day. Dave/Maurice here.  Being voted a tie with Kowalski is as good as a win in my book.  As for who gets the T-shirt, if I had mental powers and could have arranged for him to win with a roll of 11, as he had been doing all game long, that's exactly how I would have set it up.  It was the poetic cherry on top of my role-playing sundae.  But then maybe I DO have mental powers and arranged just that.  Mwah HA HA HA ha ha ha!  Y'all tell a great story and I look forward to gaming with you at future Gencons.  Be sure to give me a heads up next year, so I know what games to sign up for.

Hi Dave and welcome to the Comlink  :)

You know that really obnoxious table, where everyone is laughing loudly and having a absolute blast, while all the other tables around it are trying to establish a dignified and dramatic atmosphere?

Yeah, that was totally us (and it was all your fault) hehehe ;)

I’ll be sure to post my list of submitted events again for the 2011 Con Season (including at least one humor parody) so everyone has a heads up again.

I’ll also be posting a few pics from GenCon here on the site today for folks to see  ;D

Oh good news JP and Lori....

Jay and I will be at Con on the Cob this year. I forgot to mention it when I saw you last. We even got a booth in the exhibi hall! Jay will be pimping his forthcoming RPG Pantheon and we're 90% sure that we'll be selling Fat Dragon products as well.

So now you HAVE to come!

Sweet  ;D  We had already planned on it this year but have not yet registered.  RBree suggested a conflicting con in WV this year, but due to the fact we can stay at home and travele to Con on the Cob each day means we'll have to stay local this year.  We'll be there Thursday, Friday, and Saturday  :)

I'll likely run Most if not all of the same games I ran at Origins and GenCon this year - look forward to seeing you there  :)
