I'm setting these things up. Should be helpful, and it'll mean I don't have to mention these stuff.

Alright, Shavuot starts at sunset tonight/day. However, tonight we also have to stay up the entire Night praising/thanking God, so Aman and I will probably be off earlier than that.

No, I won't excuse you.  Danaos has convinced me I should give you a hard time about it.

Prolly shouldn't joke about that, hmm?

He's either trolling or wants to know who to bug about religion.  Whatever it is, I'm unwatching the thread.

I'm pretty sure your religion doesn't allow that.

If Sehaniel is Arhiest to the point that he idolizes himself, you can kill him Aman.

But, wouldn't the law against murder supercede the "destruction of idols" thing? I don't know, of course, which is why I'm asking.

...I don't think james got the memo.

Is it weird that I like Old Testament God better than New Testament God?

Makes sense. Old Testament God is a badass, formless dictator of the universe.

New Testament god is a bearded hippy dude.

That's arguable, but, for the most part, I think a lot of people would agree.

Again, why the Fark am I getting tagged?
Quote
Because you want answers!
Quote
Okay, but to be fair, I've had The Bible read to me for my entire childhood. I didn't memorize the whole thing (just a few minor books from the NT). I wasn't really looking for irrefutable answers (I don't believe that any can be found, even in The Bible), just discussion, mainly.

I should probably get off the forums. I'm starting to outstay my welcome, again.

Realize that by saying this, you are just giving everyone else a free pass to murder you, knowing you already framed the wrong killer.

>_>

Anyhow, I'm about to go on a journey. A 25 hour one that includes no eating, and having to go to lectures where grumpy rich New York-ers invade the Synogague and kick you off chairs so that they can give your chair to older rich people. And then they huff and puff and get mad, overall proving why we have this day of atonement in the first place.

So... Got an hour before this enjoyable time. Yes.

Hilariously enough, that happened a really long time ago. We didn't have a calendar, since it was based on the moon, so we'd have people testify that the moon was a full one, and then we'd schedule when the holidays of the month were going to occur.

Really long time ago as in around when Jesus was born.

Wouldn't it have been easier to use a roman calender if it was around that time? ???

Probably, but us Jews are too cool for that. Even though the roman calendars went by the same cycle (lunar, like ours), for whatever reason it had slight, though important differences since exact time is important for us.
Not to mention that their months were named after different roman kings, while ours was based off of things in the bible. So we have to keep ours for traditions sake. The whole testimonial thing apparently went way back to biblical times though, and a rabbi named Hillel decided to just make an official calendar in about 350AC.
Even nowadays some rabbis refuse to go by the Christian Calendar, which actually makes sense at this point, though I'm too used to it to stop haha.

Anyway, holiday starts in about an hour and a half from now. Huzzah (this one isn't a fast, there's lotso food).

I once timed a line I was in for a big new rollercoaster. I spent 45 minutes in line to ride what turned out to be (from start to stop) a 17 second ride.

I was in line ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY EIGHT FARKING TIMES as long as the ride itself!!!

---

It was like that episode of the Simpsons, where Homer stands in a mega-line at the amusement park waiting two hours to finally get to the end - where a sign reads: "We hope you enjoyed LINE, THE RIDE!"

In jersey, we have a six flags with this giant ride called Kingdaka or something like that. Tan, my sister and I stood there waiting for an hour, and then the ride broke down. We stayed for another hour, and then got to go on the damn ride, which was ridiculously short and annoying. Ugh

Woke up this morning to a preacher on tv ranting that "Easterrrr" is a pagan holiday and that "every time you roll your Easterrrr eggs, you put your immortal soul in peril of hell!"

He said that phrase five or six times.  (Roll your Easter eggs? Was that like, a thing people used to do?)

Then he told us we needed to celebrate "Passover, the true resurrection of Christ!"

(I'm fairly certain Passover isn't a celebration of the resurrection of Christ. Xd )

Passover was a Moses thing right? But there is a tie-in with the Christian Resurrection theme there.

The blood of the Sacrificial Lamb, painted over the doors, spared Israel from the Angle of Death. Not sure what the Jewish way of looking at this is, but with Christianity, it is an allegory of Jesus (the Lamb of God) spilling his blood to save the world from death through his resurrection.

So that would be my guess why Passover and Easter would sometimes be mentioned together.

Interested in what Aman or Tans would say the Passover represents for the Jewish community.

Huh. So Jesus is called the sacrificial lamb? It would fit well with Passover, seeing how every year we make a sacrificial lamb offering.

Passover for us is the exodus, and we pray for the final exodus and the coming of the messiah

For us it wasn't actually the angel of death, it was God himself who went and killed all the Egyptian first-born.

Aman already went over it, but Pesah is basically about our road from slavery in Egypt to being free to service our own God in our own land. Since then we've been exiled time and time again, and as such we're looking forward to the next and final Exodus where all the Jews will live in Israel.
Wouldn't really say that we'll rule the world when the Messiah comes, cause we already do ;) ;D.

But seriously, from what I know, it seems its less 'ruling the world' and more, 'the nations of the world will love us' and whatever the inquires, since we're supposed to basically be the High-priests/Kohanim of the world by then. Something like that...

So here's the weird one. Aman has it easy in Israel, but we have a two-day holiday starting  tonight and ending Tues night. Wed-Fri is good. Then Sat-night through Wednesday (I think) is holiday again. Apparently ends the 6th. After that we're clear 'til Hanukkah sometime december ;D
