New York side of Connecticut? I lived in Old Saybrook for a while. Went to college in Middletown, south of Hartford. My Brother still lives in Putnam.

"I don't see any further fighting," Stepple observes.

"That means the battle is over. I do hope we get a rematch though, that shadow trick was just plain cheating!"

"Ah well, let's head back and preapare to sneak out of the country, if things have not gone our way."

Well, as it was late and I didn't want the ER visit/bill, I waited till morning to see what it was going to do.

Got a large blister over a red area. Looks pretty much like a second degree burn, so I think I'm good.

I'll watch for infection or if it turns black, then I'll hit up the professionals  ;)

Hmm... It seems I have freeze-dried a part of my thumb, when a faulty propane valve sprayed liquid propane across it. Right now, it's like a one and a halfinch length of leather on my thumb, rather than skin. I imagine it will blister up at some point like a burn.  :(

"It could, if they can somehow control them, or if the traps don't trigger," Emend replies. "We should investigate the Georgetown University killings. It might gives us some clues about who, or what, we're dealing with."

That's a good idea, just need some in character consensus for me to move it forward. :)

It doesn't really fit in right at the moment, but Beats still hasn't had the chance to scry in on the vampires' underground haven to see what became of the giant flesh monsters yet.

Disciples / Re: Witches & Demons & Flies - Oh My!

With nothing better to go on, the disciples plied their various visions through the scrying window to scrutinize the area where the road ended in the glade.

There wasn't anything unusual about it, until Robor looked with spirit and could tell that someone had a keyed spirit road at the end of the drive - meaning the limo must have just driven off the pavement and right into twilight or the shadow?!?

What, did they have a time share on that side or something?

UsdiYona meanwhile, could swear that she smelled Sarapheen's scent through the scrying window, though that brought up some rather curious metaphysical questions of how that would even be possible. Peering across the veil - through the window - she saw a leather sling cord hanging from a gnarled post in twilight. Below the sling were three silver sling bullets.

"That's Sarapheen's belt!" She exclaimed - "The one she wears around her waist! And some little ballee things that are also hers!"

By this time, the disciples had been up all night, and the morning news was just coming on TV. The news flash caught Emend's attention.

"The bodies of four female students, from Georgetown University, were found on campus early this morning in what appears to be some sort of pagan sacrifice ritual. The bodies were discovered in the basement storage area of the university's Archeology Department, in a pentagram circle with burnt candles. They appeared to have been drained of all blood. The cause of death and loss of blood has not yet been explained, though a campus maintenance worker told our reporters that when they found them, they had raised welts on their bodies that reminded him of the marks a giant octopus' suction cups might cause.

In another bizarre blood-related story, a local restaurant's bathroom was literally flooded in human blood last night. Investigators are baffled by both cases...

In a last ditch effort to find out anything, Killer scries out the golf course and its maintenance facility to see if he finds anything related to the limo or the witches or the supernatural in general, even something as small as a relation to Blume and Blumenthal - with fairly low hopes of success. If he doesn’t find anything he’ll sigh, shrug and say he gives up on following this lead.

Scrying out the area reveals nothing, though the road does lead past the golf course and dead ends in a wood surrounded glade. Where the pavement ends, some disturbed gravel and worn ruts in the grass indicates that vehicles do occasionally drive off the road and into the glade.

No sign of the limo though - or anyone else about.

"Yes, you may have a point about the bastard's foul blood," Steeple replies to Maximus. "I would not want to taint such a magnificent weapon with such gross impurities."

"As for Kiril, until it is proven his conspiracy in this, his station is still to be respected."

"We will deal with Barabus later. For now, we need to find Heldrick. When we get to were you saw him last, I'll track him to see where they went."

"It is water under the bridge," Steeple replies to Maximus; "and worth the trouble, if we learn something from it."

"But about these shadow workers... I know two of them. Anton is an honorable ally, but the other I don't trust, nor like for that matter. Kiril the hubristic dandy. He thinks he can handle that demon possessed brute that betrayed me. ha!"

"Vengeance. Will be. OURS!" Steeple growls, in affermation of his Prince.

He then teleports to his son, hoping the shadow does not follow and carefully carves away at the tendrils holding Maximus.

"Regenerate your wounds, son!"

(Max out dex to avoid carving Maximus, slide blade into tendrils with flat against Maximus, then turn edge out to slice away from skin.)

While the plates of the limo were obscured, the limo itself was easy enough to find on various camera systems across the city - it being the fancy enough in its own right (and the fact that its plates seemed magically hidden in every view of it).

After spending about three hours following the electronic trail of bread crumbs, Emend finally lost it, in Hyattstown Maryland - thirty miles northeast of Washington DC (as the crow flies).

The last glimpse of the limo, was from a camera at the entrance to the Little Bennet Golf Course on Prescot Road in Hyattstown, and then a corresponding blip of movement off the edge of another camera located at the golf course's maintenance facility across the street.

Worried that Maximus may not be able to see or hear him (and mistake him for a threat), Steeple reaches out and touches the gargoyle with his vessel of transference, infusing Maximus with Steeple's own blood. The gargoyle should recognize his master's sweet vitae, which will then allow Steeple to get close enough to try ripping some of the tendrils free with strength of the earth and potence.

"Get the shadow spawn Minimus! Git it!" Steeple cheers the little ghoul on!

So Steeple’s mercury one isn’t nearly enough for him to reach the assassin from in the sky (path 1 is only like, 5 or 10 meters), but I can write it to work pretty easily anyway so i’ll accept that

I like what you did with it though - thanks!

Next time, I'll have Steeple drop out of the sky and teleport just before hitting the ground, sideways, into an opponent. How would that work out?  ;D

True enough; And it's nice to be able to realize that sometimes in retrospect.

Steeple then Teleports right behind the pointing assassins and plies his bone sword among them with celerity!

(Max str dex blood bump)

"Good show son!" Steeple claps, genuinely proud of the gargoyle being so alert on the situation.

"Take me to Heldric, the uh, the 'Ugly one'," he directs.

"Oh, and I snagged a piece of tavern cheese for young Minimus."

"Gladly! We'll need to stock up before we go to teach that big bastard a lesson. Not that we need anything more than a thought and a whim to crush him into the dirt he came from! It's just that it would be terrible to go thirsty before then, that would be horrific, a shame, a sham, an anagram! ".

"Saga has a manana hammer!" Steeple shouts, sinking fangs into a few of the tavern patrons to fill up - careful not to completely drain anyone (unless they seem a bit shady, in which case all bets are off!).

Once done, he'll go back to see what's taking everyone.

Presuming they all left, Steeple will head outside and attempt to signal Maximus to come down and help him find out where everyone went.

So, just waiting to see if Emend and "the rest" (haha) want to try anything else to get new leads.

If not, or they don't pan out, my next major update will throw out the next big plot hook, but won't occur for another day or so (in-game).

Disciples / Re: Witches & Demons & Flies - Oh My!

Analyzing the data, Emend could see that all the info in the phone had been erased (shortly after the time they had fled the restaurant). Even so, it was only erased in way of accessibility through the phone itself and wasn't to hard to drill down into on the memory to see a remnant of.

It looked like the phone had been purchased at a Walmart earlier, as shown by location data, then traveled directly to the restaurant, then dropped in the alley nearby. The cell plan was a basic texting pay by card plan.

Emend could see the texts sent to Mr. Swane during the meeting as well, then a couple of phone calls made from the alleyway after it had been ditched.

Checking out each of these leads, showed that the hobo who had gotten the phone in the alley and called a few friends to inform them he now had a phone that some guy tossed into the alley.

Getting on a computer and following up on the location where the phone had been purchased, Emend hacked into the store's security footage and saw the four "college girls" purchasing the phone with cash, then head out to the parking lot, where they tossed the phone into the window of waiting limo.

They then paired off, hopped into two cars and followed the limo - presumably to the restaurant for the meeting.

I suppose I could fix the links here to reflect that though...

I can't change your posts, but I've found if you change the the forum from forum-games to writing-workshop all the links work.

Oh, haha! Busted XD

It only does that because I hid all our old game threads deep in the bowels of the writing workshop to prevent thier loss with the forum games forum. ;D

There was nothing out of the ordinary about the scene, so Beats had the idea to simply reach through the scying window with apportation to retreve the phone.

He had to be getting tired, having been so worried about paradox that he had been fixating on portals, when a simple apprentice level spell was all he needed.

Unfortunately, his ghostly hand couldn't grasp the material object on the other side - for that he would have to learn matter.

Instead, he used forces, to extract all the data contained in the phone into a small ball of light, which he then brought through.

Maybe Emend could do something with that?

'Hmm... Smells distractiony up there,' Steeple thinks suspiciously. 'They want to draw us up there.'

Self satisfied in his master sluethery, Steeple flashes the others with a few random tactical hand signals, roughly translating to "fist - pointing - jazz hands - double fist" and then begins searching for a way into lower levels.

Cabincon would be hilarious. Though jury's still out on if any of you are murderers. We've had 1 of all internet horror stories except that one.

Lady Z & I are too old to be killers (unless we are the highly successful type who have never been caught  ;)) and anyone can see our real selves on EliteTSD.Com.

You have met Drak face-to-face and lived to tell the tale, so at least we know he won't chop up his gaming buddies and stick them in the freezer.

Forge is a Medical Professional, so we can totally trust him, even if he brings his bag of scalpels, bone saws, and other medical implements with him to cabin con.

That jus leaves Killa, who is obviously the serial killer among us, because he has been to the Philippines and has the word "Killa" in his username in a reverse phycology way of trying to throw off suspicion.

Hey, yeah, that's a pretty good choice, I like that

I was just going to run it through the super simple formula I have to calculate your average number of successes depending on difficulty but i'm fine with that too.

I got a mechanic I used for Mass D&D battles, that could add a depth of chance while still keeping things quick and easy.

Use the Take Half option, but add a single d6.

If it's 2-5 no effect

A 6 means Extra Successes; while a 1 is Reduced Successes or botch when dramatically expedient.

This way, there is a small chance of success when opposed by a superior dice pool.

I'm good.

Incidentally, I'm currently reading the new Vampire The Masquerade V5 edition. I love that they brought back all the original backstory (Requiem was so farking lame haha!).

They use a mechanic called Take Half, where rather than rolling for the unimportant stuff or against mooks, you can just count your pool and assume you rolled half that many successes.

Rooting out the info on Robert Swane's phone, Emend saw what he had seen before, plus the number Robert had been texting to.

With a little time on the computer, Emend was able to access Robert Swane's call logs. They appeared to be pretty mundane, being daily interactions between business clients, the office of Blume and Blumenthal, and his wife.

Nothing stood out as unusual, even when Emend spent time rooting out the clients themselves.

Accessing the internet and searching out info on the buyer's number revealed that it was new - as of today - and had only been used for the texting with Mr. Swane and nothing else.

Also - one of these days, we all need to get together face-to-face somewhere for a weekend of real gaming. One of the coolest things I ever did was host 'Cabin Con' for my old gaming group. The only downside was the outhouse and the fact it was the middle of January haha!  ;D

High Oaks Castle; Late Thursday Evening, February 8th 2018

It was beginning to get late, as the disciples finally arrived at High Oaks Castle by car. After settling in and discussing the situation a bit, a plan was hatched to steal Robert Swane's cell phone - the one he had been texting the buyer with at the restaurant.

Scrying out Mr. Swane proved easy, as he had already retired for the evening at his home (and was asleep in his room). The cell phone was charging on a nightstand by the bed and was a simple matter to reach through and take.

"Uhg…" Miquel grunted in disgust; "If that's the demons' blood, why leave it all behind like that?!?"

To the Saint, he added - "At any rate, they passed through my side and right on to the other (back where the horrors lie...)."
