Heh. I still use the "We're not a SEAL team, we're the A-Team!" incident to illustrate the idea of keeping to genre conventions in games.

As the pale-faced pansy pranced about the room,
And you quietly pondered your sparkly doom,
What would appear but a stake-wielding blonde,
Who hailed From Sunnydale, and places beyond.

With a quick thrust the deed was done,
And to well-deserved oblivion Edward was gone.
As she hailed you farewell with a nod of her head,
You promised yourself, no more anchovies 'fore bed.

And that's when you realize you're not alone in your bed.

This reminds me of an Old West game I came across that used poker dice for task resolution (or for those more familiar with it, think Yahtzee).

You rolled a hand, with your skill rating determining how many dice you could re-roll to improve it.

I haven't had a chance to try it out, but it certainly looked interesting.  :)

Thanks!

Naw, I don't think I'm at that stage yet. I might PM you with some questions about design concepts, if and when I reach that point. This is one of those projects that will be seriously dependent on that so-vaporous thing called "free time".  ;D

Cool.  ;D

I've been suffering a bit of gaming withdrawal (due to scheduling conflicts and the realization that there will be no GenCon for me this year), so I've been futzing around reading through my books, and got bit by the idea-worm of converting BHB to another system "for the fun of it".

Would you mind if I did so?  ;)

I know the feeling. I'm facing having two kids in college this year, so I'm afraid I may have to give up going to any con this year. :(

I've always had to limit my convention-going to once a year.

This year, though, the financial issue is making Origins go up the queue. I enjoy GenCon more, since more of my peeps show up there, but with two kids in college at the same time, I need to cut corners.

I guess it would come down to hotel and incidental costs...

Yeah, I noticed the date shift for next year's GenCon. Puts it dangerously close to college-daughter-moving time.

Fortunately, next year I'll (hopefully) only have one kid in college, and the school's less than an hour away, so it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

And I swear, next year I'll play more and run less. Really. No fooling...  ::)  ;)

Thanks for the compliment  :)

I'd love to design a convention adventure for the crew of the Bebop, but the biggest snag is figuring out who else to include (character wise) - as I'd need 6 PC's and don't think Ein would really be feasable, which would leave 3 extra PCs that would logically need to be able to work with the crew throughout the adventure...

BZ

Uh, don't you mean 2? The Bebop crew consists of Jet, Spike, Faye and Ed. :)

In many of the episodes, the crew ended up working with (willingly or not) various people. For a one-shot adventure, I'm sure you could come up with a couple of temporary allies. You could throw in Andy (in either his cowboy or samurai phase), for example.

And I would sooo play Ein in an adventure. He's the smartest one of the bunch, really. ;)

You should be able to show up at a game and snatch a copy from BZ himself.

At least, that's how I got mine. ;)

Otherwise, IPR (Indie Press Revolution) usually has a booth and they distribute the game, IIRC.

Yes, it's true - the Players whomped my Big Bad before I got even one attack roll, so I Cheated Like A Bastichâ„¢ and wrote in the Retributive Strike Edge right then and there - The players where like "Hey, did you just write that in?!?"  I said "Yep, and here's a Luck Point for everyone for your GM Cheating Like A Bastichâ„¢."

I rolled my dice...

And the victim Dodged...  :P

Hi Nestor, fwiw the Game Parlor is about 5 minutes from my house and I'm a frequent visitor. And agreed, after years of the metro area, I'd consider chewing my foot off rather than drive on 495 commuter traffic. Even the dulles Toll Road I use to commute to Tyson's corner is heinous.

Ah, you lucky bastich. I've managed to visit the Parlor only once and I burn with jealousy. ;)

I'll try to post any news about local events here in case you're interested.

For example, I found out last weekend that there's a fan-organized game con in January down in the Alexandria area. It's mostly cosnole and video, but they do mention tabletop gaming, so I'm thinking a group of us can take over their game room and run some cool RPGs to entice the kids away from their frag-fests. :)

I might be available for a game. My only obligation on Sunday is some booth time at the Exile Games booth from 1200 to 1400.

As for preference, I'm up for some classic BHB since I didn't manage to get in on any of the runs (what with the shcedule the way it worked out).

The MD/DC/VA area is prominent for that sort of work, but as a defense contractor, I try very hard to not take any jobs that get me anywhere near the DC Beltway; it rivals LA in terms of traffic nightmares. Driving on it automatically adds an hour to any commute time, and at least once a month, a section is closed because of some horrendous accident.  :P

I know a few folks down in the Chantilly/Manassas area into gaming if you need some contacts. There's a cool gaming store in Chantilly, The Game Parlor, that carries a lot of games.

Hope that helps!

Is "The Substitute" the M&M game? If so, I burn with jealousy.

I have not been able to play in a M&M game at a con since I was in one of the first demos run by Steve Kenson. Every year I try and every year the damn games fill up in seconds.

It's enough to drive a man mad. Mad, I say! *shakes fist at the sky*

I am happy to report that no, we did not get chomped  ;D

No leeches either, I hope.

I discovered this to be a common concern in swimming holes up by my in-laws' home state (Vermont). Needless to say, I don't go swimming up there. ;)

Speaking of dice rolling, my gaming group has a game where you try to 'roll out' a standard set of D&D dice (4,6,8,10,12,20) by rolling them all at once until one or more dice hit their highest value.  From there you remove the 'maxed' dice and count that as one roll; then counting how many more rolls it takes to max out all the rest.

My best is 4 rolls (which I've never duplicated again).  I've also had 6 rolls and 7 rolls.  Try it some time  ;D

BZ

Your gaming group is weird.  :P

Due to the increased interest in our site generated by the conventions, I am setting the registration back to member activated.  This means that folks won't have to wait for me to activate their accounts, but also that we'll get a couple of spam accounts each day as well.  I'll be deleting these as I see them, but let me know if you see one posting garbage on our boards.

Thanks for your help  :)

Just purchased a bunch of tickets for GenCan events - boy a lot of them go fast - I logged in an hour after events became available and already two of the seven events I'm running were sold out  ;D

I'll get back a bit later here and post the other events Lady Z and I are going to be trying out  :)

BZ

I remembered to log in and submit my Wish List about 1:20. Pretty much my top 10 were all sold out.  >:(

I signed up for what I could get. It's one of my pet peeves about GenCon. There're, like, three systems I'd love to actually get to play in, but they're always filled up before I can jump in. I was hoping the Wish List system would help this year but, oh well.
