Hi all, I've recently renewed the website again for another year, though I don't know how actively posting I'll be from here on out. I will however continue to check in a few times every week to see if anything has happened or needs addressed.

Hopefully something will change in the next year and I'll once again feel like putting more into this or expanding the BHB line again. As for now though, life has taken most of my time and energy elsewhere.

I really love what we have done with the place over the years and it's sad to see it beginning to show its age. But I look at it like the natural cycle of life - We had its birth, growing up, flourishing, maturity, and now decline. Sort of like myself haha!

I would still like to keep in touch with you guys, even if outside of BHB. Killa and I still haunt CYS and I'm working on my next Story there. Forge, did you say you run an online game? Maybe Lady Z and I can hop in on that sometime? Aman and Drak, what are you two up to these days?

As for Lady Z and I, we are going to be Grandparents here in the next month. You guys knew we were old, right? Lol! (But you can't say "OK Boomer" - cause we're Gen X, so there!)  ;) ;D

General Game Discussion / Legacy of Dracula's Castle
« on: October 26, 2019, 01:13:08 pm »
Hi all, I'm working on a CYOA game over on called Legacy of Dracula's Castle. It's still going to be a few miles down the road, but MadHattersDaughter has agreed to do some commission art pieces for it, which we'll be using this thread to hash out.

So here's the teaser -

It was the middle of September, in the year of Our Lord, eighteen hundred and ninety eight.

In May of the previous year, on the Eve of St. George’s day, when evil things in the world have full sway, a foreigner went up to the dread castle of the wicked Count Dracula. Whatever he witnessed there, drove him mad, for he was found wandering the streets of Klausenburg in a demented stupor two months later. Some say that he was taken to a mental asylum in Budapest; but we know nothing of how he came to be in such a state, so far from the Count’s accursed castle in Borgo Pass.

Rumors circulated that the Count had even left his castle that summer, to travel abroad, yet there remained some malevolent presence at the castle – even the Szgany gypsies, whom Dracula at times employed as retainers, fearing to venture too close.

Then came October of that same year; and with it, more foreigners. Four men and one woman arrived in Biztritz, looking for Count Dracula. There are those who say the woman accompanying them carried with her the mark of the beast. They made their way from Biztritz up to the castle in Borgo Pass and were seen again a few days later, one man short of their team, boarding the train bound for Klausenburg. It was spoken in hushed whispers, that the foreigners may have found and killed the evil Count – and that doing so, had freed the woman of the beast’s mark.

Even so, almost a year later, none dared to test the tale – for who would be foolish enough to tempt the evil that still lurked in the unholy edifice of Borgo Pass?

Such was the Legacy of Dracula’s Castle…

Disciples / Witches & Demons & Flies - Oh My!

Washington DC; Thursday Evening, February 8th 2018

The restaurant was a fancy one, which didn't really matter to UsdiYona, so long as the food kept on coming.

The Saint and Emend were meeting Robert Swane of Blume and Blumenthal to discuss an offer for the Heart of Flies. Mr. Swane had suggested the restaurant, offering to put the meal on his account as a business expense. Little did he know what he was getting into, when UsdiYona decided to tag along.

Just prior to arrival, the alarm Emend had left in the vampire haven under Club Perdition went off, indicating the two escaped vampires had just returned. Given the weight of the pending meeting, Emend sent out a text to Robor and Beats. They would have to handle it themselves this time.

Speaking of phone calls, Nicolette had returned Emend's call the other day. She was quite pleased to hear that Belial's Brood had been routed, but also seemed to hide some disappointment in her enthusiasm. Emend got the sense that the Camarilla had really been hoping the team had run into them - just for the obvious benefits such an encounter would mean for Nicolette's faction.

As for the Heart of Flies, Nicolette had no further info on it to give, other than suggesting that mages had always been trying to get their hands on it in one way or another.

"Will anyone be having desert?" the server asked, as she cleared dishes from the table.

While she did, Mr. Swane opened his briefcase. "I'm good," he smiled to the server.

Then to the rest he added, "Feel free. I just have to grab this file and we can get down to business."

Washington DC; Thursday Evening, February 8th 2018

Word came from Emend that the two vampires had just set off his alarm, in returning to their underground haven beneath Club Perdition. It had only been four days, since the disciples had assaulted the place. Whether the fiends thought the coast was now clear or they simply needed to return to the physical world to feed was not clear - though this did present a nice opportunity to tie up these particular 'loose ends'.

Unfortunately, Emend, the Saint, and UsdiYona were just walking into a meeting with Robert Swane of Blume and Blumenthal to discuss offers for the Heart of Flies, so this would be up to Robor and Beats.

Disciples / Conversation Of One

Killer pulled up a chair and sat beside the Bishop, where he lay on his bed.

It was well past midnight. The urge had been driving Killer wild for the past two days; he’d been on the very cusp of turning his need to kill on Faith – but he wasn’t sure he wanted to do that just yet, as it would be hard to explain the girl’s death to the others. She was something to kill once he knew he was going to be found out.

Earlier today, Killer had told Miguel to go practice his possession skills, for when he would provide the ghost conquistador a new body, now that the Killer had acquired the skills necessary to do so. He wanted Miguel to get used to operating foreign flesh. Or at least, that was the excuse.

Killer had scried out the Bishop's location in preparation for the hunt, and on the way to the cathedral, he’d activated his life sights to keep careful track of all the people in the surrounding area. He’d forsaken his usual priest getup and had altered large and crucial parts of his facial structure in preparation – he now had dirty blond hair, a strong jaw, large cheekbones and tanned skin.

No way anyone would recognize him, should he accidently get spotted lurking around the Bishop's house.

Once Killer got to where his prey was located, he looked through one of the windows and began manipulating the shadows on the other side, having them unlatch the window for him to open.

From there, he cast human minion to usurp control of the Bishop’s body, not wanting to give him a chance to wake up and complicate anything. Once inside he walked up to him in his bed and pressed an elongated fingernail into his neck, injecting an extremely potent paralytic venom he’d fashioned using fantasia.

The man’s breathing turned quick and shallow, becoming panicked - as someone who could barely breathe - gasping for air. The Killer noted how the Bishop's eyes trembled, as if he was trying to force them open.

Killer leaned down and whispered into his captive's ear – “I’ve learned a few new tricks recently; I’ve been itching to try them out – they’re not very practical in a real fight you see; they are a bit more complicated and not even as effective as the others, but damn if they’re not satisfying to see in action.”

The old man released a weak moan, unable to shape any words with his frozen jaw.

Killer then pulled the old man from the bed and laid him out on the floor – he didn’t want to stain the sheets in a way that would bring his death into question.

Pulling out his prayer beads, Killer carefully traced them along the Bishop's skin – first on his legs, then on his stomach and arms, all while chanting the words for death, rot, destruction, pain. The rot spell twisted the helpless victim's bones; his flesh turning black; his body swelling as his blood thickened; his teeth beginning to fall out. His skin then shrunk, like drying rawhide - and where it got too tight, it simply split open. For all the pain he suffered, the Bishop still couldn't muster anything more than the weak moan.

Killer next drew the prayer beads back towards the Bishop's heart, and there he splayed them across the man's chest and pressed his hand down. This time, he reached into the Bishop's fading pattern and began to burn it - drawing mana from the old man into himself.

Picking the prayer beads back up, Killer ran them across the shriveled corpse and reversed all the visible damage to the body, then put them away.

“He died of a heart attack in his sleep,” Killer spoke to himself quietly, as he puts the Bishop back into his bed - tucking him in as he would a child.

“They’ll say he barely felt a thing. His veins were clear of any poison, his house was undamaged. My most horrific kill yet.”

So why don't I feel a goddamn thing?

“I can't kill worse than this. I can't hurt them any more than that. No one can. Is it the target? No, I feel like even Sarapheen wouldn't be enough at this point.”

Wait, Sarapheen!

Suddenly the Killer remembered how he'd initially planned on getting rid of the angel - setting up an ambush in the cathedral basement and sealing her soul so that she couldn't reincarnate.

It doesn't have to end when they die does it?

Suddenly, the Killer found himself filled with something the likes of which he hadn't felt in months, and he knew he had stumbled onto the right path.

Going through the Bishop's kitchen, he took a small tupperware container - not wanting to take something people would notice was missing.

Returning back to the Bishop's room, he laced his prayer beads around the container and placed them both on the chest. Maybe what Killer needed was to start collecting souls as trophies. The thrill of having to hide something so sinister from the others might reinvigorate his zest for life.

Beginning the spell, he hoped that it wasn't too late to still capture the dead Bishop's before it had departed the mortal coil...

Continued From (Enemies At The Gates)

Walking across the gauntlet, Robor and Beats found themselves entering the shadow on the edge of a large familiar-looking bog-filled crater. It was the very same pit of sloppy mud they had fallen into when inadvertently portaled here by Sarapheen - back when the castle was still owned by Jack Eaton Jr.

The place was still a fog-shrouded wood, with the colors dull, muted, or just plain wrong. Trees were twisted and reaching and suggestive of the horrific abominations the disciples had encountered in the flesh grove - which come to think of it, really wasn't that far away... only a couple hundred yards in that? direction...

Movement of the shadows brought Beats and Robors' attention back to their surroundings. The shadows here (in the shadow) had the habit of flickering and shifting on their own. It was weird too, as there was no real sunlight to speak of - just a strange sort of overcast hue that backlit a sky full of roiling black clouds - while an oily black ribbon of foul viscous fluid drifted sinuously across the firmament above.

Far off, to the southeast horizon, a tall imposing skyline could be made out above the trees - high in the air - much too high in fact to be anything one would encounter on earth.

Robor and Beats had seen it once before, but had perhaps forgotten about it, save for in lost dreams and fevered nightmares.

Community Conversation / BHB Back!

So the shared hosting server that hosts BHB was attacked with the WhiteRose Crypto hack and had to be taken down and restored. Apparently the backup server also had issues, so they had to move everything on the backup server to a temp server, restore and data check it and then they will migrate it all back onto a new permanent server after they get all their client sites up.

Being that they were a shared hosting server, they had hundreds of sites and content to restore. Then they had to do some magic to get our MySQL connection (that the forum runs on) to work.

Hopefully this is finally over and we are back in business.

I still expect minor interruptions from time to time, but I hope this is the last time I see a week long crash!

Time to do some backups, haha!  ;D

High Oaks Castle; Saturday Evening, February 3rd 2018

The Sound of the buzzer indicated that Emend and UsdiYona's pizzas were finally ready to be brought out of the oven. There were four of them - one Emend had made, with all his favorite toppings, and three that UsdiYona had put together "funk-free" as she liked to say.

The bear-girl was certainly becoming quite the prolific cook, after having learned that 'human food' could be made with recipes and didn't just 'grow' pre-packaged (as she had previously thought).

As UsdiYona placed the pizzas on the counter to cool, one of Emend's security measures suddenly alerted to something at the front gate of the estate. Emend tapped his cell phone to bring up the camera by the gatehouse, seeing a single black limousine stopped in the snow swept drive.

The driver's dark tinted window rolled down to reveal a tall slim black gentleman in a dark tailored suit with a red driver's cap.

"Nicolette de Corday, Ambassador of Prince Augustus Coleridge of Washington DC, and one," he then spoke into the intercom, "request diplomatic audience with the Disciples of the Eastern States. Will you receive them under the assurance of peaceful parley?"

Capital One Arena, Washington DC; Saturday Evening, February 3rd 2018

The game at the Capital One Arena had been pretty good - the Georgetown Hoyas winning over Florida State in the final two minutes to avoid going into overtime. Beats had talked Robor into checking out the game and neither of them had been disappointed. Robor had even won some money on a friendly side-bet with two guys from the rival team.

It was just after six pm - the game having started at four - as everyone was filing out of the complex onto the cold February streets. The night was still young (despite the sun having already gone down) and a stop at the local bar seemed the next order of business.

As Robor and Beats waited for the crossing signal among the crowd of college basketball fans, mayhem abruptly broke out with the rev of an engine, thumps, screams, a loud crash, and panic!

A large white Chevy Suburban had just plowed into the crowd at the crosswalk - quickly losing control and crashing into a vehicle barrier that protected the entry to the sports arena!

Dazed bystanders stood in confusion as several mangled bodies littered the vehicle's path. For a moment, it seemed like it may have just been a terrible accident. That notion was shattered, when five brown-skinned men with black bandanas over their faces, jumped out and began stabbing everyone in reach with long thin trench-knives.

"Allah al Akbar! Death to the great Satan! Allah al Akbar!" they yelled - something about their accents being a little off to Beats' ears. To him, they sounded more South-Side DC ghetto than true Middle-Eastern - like they were trying to play it off for some unfathomable reason.

The crowd meanwhile, began to flee in all directions, while the men spread out to continue the assault. Quite a few people were now running back towards Robor and Beasts, as two of the attackers gave chase - drawing closer.

Disciples / Forgive Me Father For I Have Sinned
« on: February 03, 2018, 03:12:45 pm »
Washington National Cathedral; Saturday Evening, February 3rd 2018

"Forgive me Father, for I have sinned," the confession came through the screen - just like the last three had before this one.

'Ugh, this is getting tedious', the Saint (Killer) thought to himself, rolling his eyes. 'How the hell have I put up with this for so long? And is it really worth it?'

Indeed, the 'good' side of him had not come back out, since that time in the internet months ago, when the demon prince had tried to possess his body. Maybe he was finally free of his weaker persona. Maybe now was the time to off the kid, blow this charade, and pay a visit to his mother for... What?

"I don't know what came over me..." the young man's voice droned on. It was one of the Seminary students, studying to become a Priest. Probably did something stupid and boring, like ditching a class or having impure thoughts about one of the Sisters.

It would almost be worth going back into the subconscious, just for not having to deal with this shit. But for whatever reason, the Saint (Killer)'s kills were not doing it for him anymore.

Sure the first one out - the drug dealer - now that was amazing! To hold life and death in his hands like that! To snuff someone out so easily!

But it had not brought out his other-self as he had expected.

The three other kills the Saint (Killer) had also made - one at the end of each passing month - had not done it either; and they were getting progressively less thrilling each time. Maybe he had finally conquered his better half - or the kills had to be more meaningful than random homeless people that no one would ever miss.

"I... wow, this is really embarrassing..." the young man hesitated.

"It's all right, go on son," the Saint (Killer) encouraged, more to just get it over with than anything else.

The young man coughed to clear his throat.

"Well, I... I spent last night with a prostitute," he then spewed out quickly - "but I swear, I couldn't control myself! It was like I was being possessed or something!"

Well now, this was suddenly becoming more interesting than it had been just a few moments ago...

Continued from Dark Web

Verizon building; Fairfax Virginia; Early Monday October 23rd 2017

It had been some time, since the disciples had dreamwalked into the mind of the demon prince that inhabited mankind's globe-sprawling internet. The angels Sarapheen, Morrow Wind, and Jarome, stood vigil over their sleeping wards - waiting for them to find where the demon had taken Saint's daughter, Faith.

Once they had done that, they would be able to awaken and then physically portal to wherever that might be.

Things had gone smooth for the most part, aside from a pair of police officers wandering into the building shortly after the disciples had begun their mindquest. The officers appeared to be making a routine security check of the place, so it was a simple matter for Jarome to bestow invisibility on the group and for Morrow Wind to create an illusionary wall, routing them down the adjacent row of servers on their way through (so as not to trip them over the unseen bodies littering the floor).

At another point, it looked like Beats would awaken, but he managed to pull through, and remain in the dreamscape.

Then abruptly, Robor awoke with a start, sitting up from the floor.

That little bitch had 'killed him' he remembered, instinctively checking himself over for wounds and the like. Aside from a dull headache and general feeling of lethargy, Robor was fine.

"Oh, Robor," Sarapheen greeted him, "Any good news? How goes the search for Faith? I presume you found UsdiYona right at the outset?"

Washington National Cathedral; Sunday October 22nd 2017

The Conference with the Archdiocese was nearly over, it quickly approaching eight PM, when the cell phone in the Saint's pocket began to vibrate.

An incoming text message.

No big deal, the Saint could wait another ten minutes for the meeting to be over, before checking it. Besides, Mother Rosemary was keeping an eye on the girls (UsdiYona having come over for a movie night with Faith).

For having "moved into" High Oaks Castle recently, UsdiYoni sure seemed to spend a great deal of time with the Saint still – though his food bills had seen a small measure of relief with the new arrangement.

Another incoming text.

Ugh, what now? Better at least to check and see who they were from.

Casually sliding his cell phone from his pocket, the Saint flipped it over to see where the text messages originated.

Bah, probably scammers or something.

At this point, some of the Priests seated next to the Saint began to give sidelong glances at his distraction. The Saint was just about to put the phone back in his pocket, when yet another text came in from the same 'Unknown'.

His heart skipped a beat, as he noticed the preview banner at the top of the phone scroll across the following for the third text – "It took faith! I don't know where they went! I can't get out!"

Community Conversation / Poison Ivy to Sepsis (Yeah!!)
« on: April 11, 2017, 09:23:13 am »
So, last week, I pulled a bunch of Poison Ivy off a fence and tree in my back yard. Poison Ivy and I have an understanding - I look at it, and it makes my life hell.

So, I double-gloved up, and careful as a navy ordinance man, I set to removing said bane. As usual, I'm very mindful not to touch any of it or let it touch my clothes. That usually works for about fifteen minutes. Two hours later... I'm done and the noxious vines are bagged and ready for trash pickup - three giant carpenter bags worth!

The next day, I only find one tiny little blip of it on my inner forearm. I have to admit, I was damn near close to doing a snoopy victory dance at that point. The day after that, a few more popped up, and by day three, I had about six little colonies of microblisters growing from the cursed stuff!

I'm pretty good about not itching them, but the hell-spawn tend to burst open now and then and ooze for the blatant heck of it, which may or may not make them spread.

So, I went through all that crap till yesterday, where they had pretty much all dried out by now and I was just waiting on all the tiny scabs to heal.

That evening, taking a shower after teaching karate classes, I noticed a red line running from a bright red scab on my inner forearm, all the way up my arm to under my armpit. The line itself was hot to the touch and tender. I initially thought, "I don't reminder getting fingernail scrapped up and under my arm."

Good thing I have LadyZ to ask the age old questions, such as: "does this look right to you?" She being a nurse, immediately recognized it as an infection and the red line as serious enough to suggest going to the emergency room.

I, being the old-schooler I am, and knowing that it's a six hour carnival of fun visiting the local daily-overwhelmed emergency room, opted for the 'pop 1000mg of old antibiotics lying around that no one ever finishes (like they are supposed to)' route.

Of course, this gave LadyZ time to do online research into the seriousness of things like sepsis, while we waited for the meds to kick in, which ultimately led to heading out to the ER anyway. Oh joy!

It was a good day though - we were in and out in a record four hours! Bliss!

The Augmentin I had taken earlier actually drove the red line back some by the time we were leaving. The ER proscribed another aggressive round of antibiotics and steroids! And told us to keep and eye on it, ect, ect. Cool! Awl Be Baahk!!!

Disciples / Loose Ends
« on: October 29, 2016, 02:26:56 pm »

It had been a full week since the quorum had lost Sarapheen, while liberating High Oaks Castle from the demonic thrall Jack Eaton Jr. and his mad witch Mama Kark.

Everyone had hoped that the angel would simply return soon (she having told them that she was immortal after all), but as the days went by, with no sign of her, the urgency of getting Robor and Beats back into their own bodies grew - as well as the need to liberate the Saint from the curse of that terrible cleaver.

Even now, the Priest could feel the need building, to slice clean, innocent, flesh with the blade. It wasn't an irresistible compulsion (yet), but it was a constant, steady, yearning - occupying his mind and ever inserting itself into the fore of all thought.

For now, it wasn't hard to repetitively dismiss, but the ceaseless urging was beginning to become quite wearisome.

For this, the Saint was grateful to have the strange child/spirit Usdiyona around. The bear-girl had to be taken in by someone, and made a great 'big sister' to Faith, sharing a room with her, and helping ready her each day for when Mother Rosemary came to pick her up for preschool.

Not that he felt he could ever harm Faith - but it was good to have Usdiyona there - just to make sure he was never alone with the small child, while still feeling the weight of the black cleaver.

'Besides,' he found himself thinking offhandedly, 'Usdiyona's blood will satisfy the blade's need just as well as any other child. No need to harm Faith if it ever came down to it...'

For Robor and Beats, things were not quite as bad - just awkward and needlessly complicated.

Beats for instance, couldn't go out on the street to meet contacts and tend to 'his boys' while stuck in Robor's body. They simply wouldn't trust a strange yuppy-looking white dude (and who would blame them). Sure, Beats could take Robor with him and have him do all the talking, but these things required a certain level of 'finesse' that Robor just couldn't articulate with only a few days' practice.

And Beats found it downright creepy, hearing his own voice come out of some doppelganger - but with a totally foreign inflection, accent, and speech pattern.

Robor on the other hand, seemed to be taking it all in stride. Perhaps he actually liked taking Beat's body for a joyride - and almost getting it killed on at least two separate occasions...

'We got to get this done soon!' Beats thought to himself, shaking his head.

For Emend, the week had dragged on - a nagging thought burning in his mind. He recalled what Sarapheen had said about Shade and Soul Stones:

"How exactly do we destroy this?" Emend had asked, feeling the crystal with his hand.

"And is the false soul still trapped within?"

Answering Emend, Sarapheen replied, "just crush it with something hard, like a hammer."

"It still has a false imprint in it," she continued; "a dark and flawed copy of whoever Hans really was, when he was alive."

"The real soul of Hans is not in the crystal. You'll only be hurting Infernal interests by destroying it."

"Now a Soul Stone on the other hand, you would not want to destroy."

"The greater good is served by returning it to its rightful owner, or using high level Spirit to sever the binding the stone has on the trapped soul - essentially setting it free."

Was Doll a flawed copy then? Or the trapped soul of a real child? Mama Kark had been in the process of trying to steal Usdiyona's soul too. Emend having, more or less, inadvertently rescued her from that fate.

And what of the other children's bodies? They had found the remains three girls in the underground lab with Hans, but had only met Doll. What of the spirits of the other two?

Perhaps it was the Avenging Angel in him talking now, but it felt to Emend like a terrible injustice was being ignored (or missed) concerning Mama Kark's victims and high Oaks Castle. One that needed to be righted as soon as possible.

If only Emend could council with his mentor, the Avenging Angel Jarom, to seek greater wisdom in the matter - but without Sarapheen acting as intermediary, he had no way to contact him.

Discussing this (and the rest of the quorum's current needs) with the others, Emend learned that Robor's mentor, the Spirit Warden Morrow Wind, actually spent more time on earth than most angels - and that there was a hidden hallow on the Blackfoot Indian Reservation in Saskatchewan Canada, where he had trained Robor during his initiation.

If the quorum could get there, then they would surly draw the attention of Morrow Wind, who in turn, could put them in contact with the rest of their mentors. That, and he would probably know what had become of Sarapheen as well.

"I can portal now," Beats declared helpfully, "just give me as much detailed info as you can about the place and we're good!"

« on: October 15, 2016, 02:55:37 pm »
So, I was thinking of taking another crack at my Cows vs. Aliens game on CYS.

Last I was in it, I completely scrubbed all the scripting, as it was seriously clunky - burdening CYS with thousands upon thousands of lines of code.

I want to try my hand at another approach, sort of being inspired by Killa's game. I was thinking maybe an Uno style card game, or draw poker.

Any thoughts?

Also, I was thinking of trying to handle it with JavaScript, rather than the CYS script. I was curious if that was what Killa was doing too.

    • Technique Beats Brawn: Your character's grappling moves are about masterful technique over brute force; using fake-outs, reversals, and smooth execution to counter an opponent's strength advantage. When grappling, an Opponent's Strength is effectively reduced by 1 for the purpose of resisting your maneuvers.
    • Judo Throw: Your character can throw an opponent to the ground or take him down hard! When successfully rendering an opponent prone, the opponent takes bashing damage from the roll, and your character has the choice of going to the ground with him, or to remain standing.
    • No Hesitation: Your character’s training and experience allow him to instantly transition from establishing a hold to a maneuver in the same action, before his opponent can even react. Anytime your character successfully establishes (or re-establishes) a grapple hold, he may immediately follow up with a maneuver roll at a -1 penalty (before his opponent can try to break free or reverse the grapple).
    • Choke 'em Out: Your character knows a variety of chokes and sleeper holds that he can slip in there as the opportunity arises. Any maneuver roll to render opponent prone, damage opponent, immobilize opponent, use opponent as protection from ranged attacks, or judo throw opponent, that equals or exceeds the target’s Size in successes might knock him unconscious (in addition to the normal effect). A Stamina roll is made for the victim. If it succeeds, he is conscious but he still loses his next action due to defending the choke. If it fails, he is unconscious for a number of turns equal to the successes/damage done.
Drawback: This maneuver is generally performed on a prone (or going prone) opponent. If the opponent is standing when this maneuver is applied, he gets to make a Reflexive Strength (don’t forget Technique Beats Brawn) + Brawl (-minus attacker’s Strength) roll to pop free before the Knockout effect can be applied.
    • Tap It or Snap It: Your character knows how to snap limbs, annihilate joints, and crank various parts of the body past the breaking point. Any maneuver roll to render opponent prone, damage opponent, immobilize opponent, use opponent as protection from ranged attacks, or judo throw opponent, that equals or exceeds the target’s Size in successes gives the attacker opportunity to truly wreck their opponent.
In this case, the attacker may choose to spend one Willpower point (does not add three dice to the attack) in order to cause Lethal damage, instead of Bashing damage, and imbue the Lame Flaw or One Arm Flaw on his opponent. The Flaw remains with the opponent until all of the damage cause by this attack is healed. If the opponent already has the Lame Flaw, then he is Crippled instead; while consecutive One Arm Flaws will quickly run the victim out of usable arms.
Drawback: This maneuver is generally performed on a prone (or going prone) opponent. If the opponent is standing when this maneuver is applied, he gets to make a Reflexive Strength (don’t forget Technique Beats Brawn) + Brawl (minus attacker’s Strength) roll to slip free before the Lethal/Flaw effect can be applied.

Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem have been hired to play a gig at a convention deep in the English countryside at the castle of one Dr. Frank-N-Furter (a scientist). Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Gonzo the Great, and Fozzie Bear are along for the ride, to help the band set up for the show; while Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and his faithful assistant Beaker have been invited to sit as ‘special guests’ on a scientific panel to be held during the con. Why anyone would hold a ‘Transylvanian Convention’ in the first place, much less use it as a discourse for scientific discussion, is anyone’s guess – but you got to admit, Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem sound pretty sweet playing that ‘Let's Do the Time Warp, Again’ number they’ve been working on lately…

Washington National Cathedral; Monday October 3rd 2016

According to Sarapheen’s instructions, the Disciples were to all meet together for the first time today; Gathering at noon, in the garden pavilion outside the Washington National Cathedral.

It had been a few months, since each of them had accepted the calling to serve as one of the angel’s disciples – And Sarapheen now felt that everyone was grounded well enough in their understanding of the Lingua Intelligentia to begin working together for the purpose that they had been called.

As such, Sarapheen had arranged for the group, officially a ‘quorum’, to base themselves in the Washington DC area.

For now, there was to be four of them.
    • The Ministering Angel (Adherent), Saint.
    • The Ministering Angel (Adherent), Beats.
    • The Avenging Angel (Adherent), Emend.
    • The Spirit Warden (Adherent), Robor.
As Beats and Emend were already from the Washington DC and surrounding area, only Robor and Saint had to relocate – Sarapheen having made all the necessary arrangements for that beforehand.

Sarapheen had also hinted to their being a fifth member of the quorum, but it was unclear why that person would be delayed in joining the group as of yet.

As noon arrived, four men had wandered into the garden one by one.

Of these four men, the first to arrive was a well-muscled man of half latino/half white descent. He wore a sleeveless tank top and had tattoos on his arms, notably vines encircling his left bicep. His hair was trimmed short and he had the stubble-makings of a thin beard, while wearing upscale headphones around his neck.

The second, was a tall well-dressed man with black hair, in a fashionable suit and matching tie that carried himself as if used to the finer things in life.

The third man to arrive, had short brown hair that matched the color of his eyes. He was dressed in plain business attire that seemed to suggest ‘door to door insurance salesman’ for some reason. While not buff like the latino guy, the man clearly cared about fitness and was in good shape.

The last man to enter the garden was a priest, in the black vestments of the church, with white collar. He was of average height, with short cropped black hair and handsome features – his skin pale from a life of study.

Presuming they were all disciples present, that only left the arrival of Sarapheen herself still pending…

General Game Discussion / 3J Forum Game?
« on: July 29, 2016, 05:44:05 pm » <- That might interest some of you.

    Hi all,

I'm off on a road-trip for the weekend but I've got the framework for a new forum game worked out. I'm not ready to commit for an installment of Continent or Commander, but this forum game will divide users into teams and then pit them against each other. It will be a game of strategy and planning, with plenty of opportunities for devious back-stabs and ruthless plays. While your success will greatly depend on how well your team does, in the end, there will be only one winner.

I think I'll likely host it here.

It will be a somewhat (but not extremely) complex game with enough rules to provide a framework for multiple successful strategies, and the thing I'm most excited about is the teamwork aspect that will have to devolve to individual interest at some point. I'm really excited to see what kind of deals will be made and then subsequently broken.

Oh, there will also be a roleplay element with real in-game impact, but it won't be the focus of the game.

    « on: June 09, 2016, 09:03:43 pm »
Washington DC; Saturday March 19th 2016
Up until this morning, the Class of 2016, Washington DC Trip, had been an unmitigated success - as the buses pulled up to the hotel to begin loading students, chaperones, staff, and luggage for the return trip back to Hartford Connecticut.

It had begun on Wednesday the 16th, with a six hour ride to Gettysburg Pennsylvania on a convoy of charter buses. John was grateful for his parent's contributions to the trip and their corporate sponsorship - these charter buses being much preferable to the old yellow school buses the original budget had allowed for. That and the rooms at the Gettysburg Courtyard Marriot and DC Metro Marriot, as opposed to the Gettysburg Super 8 and Arlington Virginia Econo lodge.

On Thursday the 17th, the class went from Gettysburg to Harpers Ferry West Virginia for half the day, visiting the battlefields and historic sites and then onto the hotel in Washington DC itself.

Friday the 18th was spent touring all the best sites: The United States Capitol, the United States Supreme Court, the Library of Congress, the Washington National Cathedral, the Newseum, The White House, the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, the Arlington National Cemetery, the National Mall, the Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the Smithsonian Institutions.

It was a long but fascinating day and everyone was accounted for, as they all returned to the hotel for their last night, before the return trip in the morning.

And that was when things all fell apart.

John was taking roll call, as his bus loaded, checking off students from his class one-by-one, while they took their seats. That was when the last student filed in and sat down - only it wasn't the last student.

Tiffany Brandt, one of the popular girls, was missing...

Disciples / Sins of the Father (Issac Hardman Prolog)
    « on: June 09, 2016, 09:02:47 pm »
Arlington Virginia; Friday April 1st 2016
The funeral services for Howard Kent Hardman were as dreary as the rain outside the funeral home. Isaac's father, a powerful and well-known businessman in Arlington, had suffered a fatal heart attack two days ago. It had happened in the morning, as he was getting into the Jaguar - he just up and died right there at the wheel. The gardener found him an hour later, when he had arrived to tend the lawns.

Hardly anyone was here for the services though. Just Isaac, the funeral director, his assistant, and some rail-thin elderly gentleman with a red leather attaché that sat in the back looking rather bored. Isaac's father had chosen to be cremated, and now sat in a decorative porcelain urn at the front of the small chapel, as the funeral director gave the eulogy. It was a short few words that sounded hollow and insincere.

Howard Kent Hardman had been an important man in this town, but 'important' didn't mean he was liked. Not even Isaac's mother, Beatrice, had shown up - though that was no surprise. Howard had shamelessly cheated on her with every secretary he'd ever had over the years; and she finally left him about three years ago. Why she had stayed with him so long, Isaac couldn't fathom.

The services came to and end and the elderly gentleman got up and left, as the funeral director brought the urn of ashes over to Isaac.

"I'm sorry for your loss." was all he had said.

Leaving with the urn, Isaac was surprised to find the elderly gentleman outside under the driveway awning, standing out of the rain - waiting for him.

"Mr. Hardman," He said, walking forward, but offering no hand to shake, "I am the executor of your father's estate. I was hoping that you would be able to meet me at my office this evening, 11:37 PM sharp - do not be early, do not be late - to go over the final stipulations of your father's will."

With that, the man held out a fancy gold-edged business card for Isaac to take. Shivers ran up Isaac's spine as he reached for the card and noted a distinct chill in the air around the man's hand. It startled him enough to almost drop the urn of his father's ashes, but he managed to juggle it back under his arm, before it slipped out of his grasp.

Something about this man's eyes were... off. The gentleman certainly looked of old money and sophistication, but his eyes seemed unnaturally cold and unsettling somehow - like when you saw the look of madness in the eyes of a depraved serial killer on the news. You could tell, just by the eyes...

Tearing himself away from such disturbing thoughts long enough to look at the card, Isaac saw that it read: "Blume & Blumenthal, Estate Panning PLLC," with an accompanying address to an office building uptown.

South East DC; Saturday June 4th 2016
It was Saturday night, as Rory 'Beats' Andrews was getting out of the cab in front of his apartment complex. He had been out at the Jazz Club, enjoying the talents of the local musicians - one in particular, whom he had personally saved from the streets.

The young man, Phillippe James, had real skills with the sax, but had been wasting his life on drugs and petty crime. It was one of Rory's success stories, but somehow he had really gotten through to the guy, and it was good to see him doing something positive with his life now.

With Rory's encouragement and help, Phillippe had managed to kick the drug habit, got his own apartment out of the projects, and was even getting enough gigs with his sax to pay rent. If only more of Rory's cases ended like this, the world would be a better place.

"PSSshT! Hey, Beatss!" a voice hissed out from the shadows of the dark ally beside the apartment building - snapping Rory out of his reverie.

The voice was a familiar one, though uncharacteristically soaked in alcohol at the moment.

"K'meer! We need ta talk!" it slurred - and the large dark shape of a man could be seen in the shadows swaying slightly under the influence.

'This can't be Officer Magiffico,' Rory thought to himself; having never seen the cop anything but professional. Yet the voice and size of the man in the shadows seemed to suggest that it was.

"Hur," *hic, "Hurry up now! Don't let anyone s-see ya!"

Disciples / Words Can Never Hurt Me (Elizabeth Hastings Prolog)
    « on: June 09, 2016, 09:01:18 pm »
Ann Arbor Michigan; Friday May 13th 2016
It had been a long day for Elizabeth, cataloging all the new books donated to the university library from that Bakersfield estate auction. Box after box of some choice additions, including two absolutely amazing finds - the 11th century Codex Benedictus and ninth century Lorsch Gospels. The two handwritten and illuminated books being in Latin and estimated at a value of $8,000 and $15,000 respectively.

Once all the excitement over their discovery had died down, the news crews and university administration left, leaving Elizabeth once again alone among the stacks to finally finish her work.

While the two medieval manuscripts and other works in the collection would greatly enhance both student and faculty research, as well as put the university library in the forefront of such studies, Elizabeth was glad to get back to her books. She didn't care for all the attention or hype, especially since the majority of those seeing the news story about the books couldn't care less. It was a fluff piece for the station and an excuse for the university to get a little attention. It took a certain type of individual to really appreciate the true significance of such a find.

Glancing at the clock, Elizabeth was surprised to see that it was past 9:00 pm. It was dark outside and she was the only person still in the library. Of course she had closed up on more than one occasion, but all these crates and boxes still needed her attention and normally, she would be locking the door well before this time of night.

With heavy sigh, she grabbed a cart-bin and began breaking down boxes and crates to take out back. After two trips, she was down to the last of it and filling the bin for the final time, when something caught her eye.

On the floor among the last of the crate debris was a small rectangular object about the size of a man's wallet. In fact, Elizabeth initially thought that it was a wallet someone had dropped, until she went to pick it up and found that it was actually quite heavy, with an oily metallic feel, and unusually cool to the touch.

What she had appeared to be a small bound codex of fourteen index-card sized sheets of lead - each browned with an ancient patina and engraved with the most exquisitely strange text (something Elizabeth had never seen before).

Clearly, it had to be from the Bakersfield collection, but Elizabeth was positive that she had already accounted for all the works on the manifest...

Portland Maine; Wednesday April 20th 2016
    The dreams were getting worse.

They had started about two weeks ago and were building to something; something Giles was sure would be revealed tonight - though he was equally sure it probably wasn't something he really wanted to know.

Perhaps he would already know, if it wasn't so hard to remember the details of these surreal nightmares that seemed to vanish from the mind mere moments after opening his eyes each morning. After the third dream, he had taken to writing down everything he could recall of them, in a notepad he kept on the nightstand.

It was filled with near mad scribblings. Words that conjured wispy fragments of meaning. Clues to something... sinister?

Thirty pieces of silver. Judas reference? Isaac sacrificed. Not stopped by God? Dying? Ascending. Place of choice? Two Books?

Giles glanced at the clock by the bed - 11:30 pm.

He really wasn't sure he wanted to go to sleep. Not that he could avoid it forever. But there was a heavy sense of foreboding that gripped his chest and made him feel sick about the whole thing.

What were these dreams trying to tell him and who were they from?

Crew of The Dandy Desperado; Capital City, Europa

Everyone is just finishing a rather somber meal together at the exclusive Jade Palace Japanese Restaurant in the European Capital of (aptly named) Capital City. After nearly six months without any profitable runs and spending an inordinate amount of time trying to help DarkTech discover a cure for the Pale Horse Virus, this feels like it could very well be the last meal of the crew.

All the money is gone and unless something comes up soon, this is the end - the collection agency is after everyone for ship payments and the repo-men are not far behind!

When a round of fortune cookies are set down at the table by the server with the check, it feels like a moment of truth - as if these fortunes actually held some real sway on the fate of the Desperado.

As each one is opened and read, they reveal a series of inane and mildly amusing fortunes, until the last – which is opened to reveal only a bloody scrap of fortuneless paper with the hastily scrawled name “A.C. Morrison” written on one side...

I'll likely be losing online connectivity for at least two weeks after the end of March and most of this next month will be dedicated to the transition. My ability to PbP will be seriously impacted, until I get settled in my new area.

I plan on trying to finish up Did Somebody Say Zombies and then taking a few weeks break before starting the next BHB adventure.

If Drak doesn't kill off Steeple in his Vampire game  ;), I'll keep posting there too, but hopefully we are close to the end, so we both can take a short break haha!

Yeah, the table button is a little jacked haha! Use this instead -

    Code: [Select]

    Example -

    Animal Hit Points Cost
    Rat 5 $10
    Cat 10 $20
    Dog 20 $30

    Copy this line:
    Code: [Select]

Paste it on the end of your table:
    Code: [Select]
    Animal Hit Points Cost
    Rat 5 $10
    Cat 10 $20
    Dog 20 $30

Then this:
    Code: [Select]

On the end of each Row:
    Code: [Select]
    Animal Hit Points Cost
Rat 5 $10
Cat 10 $20
Dog 20 $30

Next, copy this:
    Code: [Select]
Paste it between each Data Set:
    Code: [Select]
    Animal Hit Points Cost
Rat 5 $10
Cat 10 $20
Dog 20 $30

Finally, copy this:
    Code: [Select]
Paste it at the front of each Row (keeping 'Table' on the first row only):
    Code: [Select]

Animal Hit Points Cost

Rat 5 $10

Cat 10 $20

Dog 20 $30

All this gives you this:

    Animal Hit Points Cost
    Rat 5 $10
    Cat 10 $20
    Dog 20 $30

Gussy it up with other code inside each Data Set:

    Code: [Select]

Animal| Hit Points| Cost
The Dandy Desperado & Crew (On Venus)

It has been an eventful month for the Dandy Desperado, with some turnover in the crew, and the acquisition of a new Scout ship to replace the Plan B.

The new Scout ship is hardly new – but it was sturdy and only costs Gilbert 100 writ a month – as he worked some computer magic to create a loan plan that allows him to pay off the 75,000,000writ used spacecraft (at zero percent interest) in only 750,000 instalments over the next 62,500 years.

Gilbert also secured himself a hover-round, through his medical insurance plan, to help the hefty man get around better. The idea to apply for one occurred to him, as he and Captain Montoya set spy cameras and concision grenades on the RC cars and some drones the Captain had picked up.

The two of them turned to each other and said “Wait, human sized!”

Surprisingly, Gilbert was immediately approved for one, without the need for any hacking games on his part.

As for the crew (with Simon Mayhem having left to join Cold Rock Johnson), the movie star Natalia Alishire realized how little she had in common with any of the rest of the team. That, and the fact that bounty hunting was literally dangerous work, made her begin to rethink staying on.

It was the package that the Desperado received from Cold Rock Johnson one day, that finally pushed her to make a decision – and she left with Ezekiel volunteering to go with her to watch her back.

The package incidentally, was the Venus Vacation Prize from the System’s Most Wanted Show, which Cold Rock had won for the video of ‘his recruits’ capturing Genny Putkoff.

A note attached, explained that Cold Rock had his own private casino on Venus already, and that the team really deserved the prize, having done all the work.

Taking advantage of the prize, the Desperado headed to Venus for the vacation of a lifetime – and to meet the new Feng-Shui Master that responded to the ad Captain Montoya had put out (being that the crew had lost both their Feng-Shui and Discord Masters in one blow).

The team is currently on the Floating Venus Vegas, on the last day of their two week vacation.

During their stay, they have had plenty of time to unwind and enjoy the many diversions Venus has to offer – including Butch winning a Sweg Tournament and coming home with a shiny new Space fighter!

And of course Gilbert blowing everything.

Everyone is in one of the casino’s many bars, waiting to meet the new Feng-Shui Master…

    Violence is Golden

By Jack Donovan On March 15, 2011
A lot of people like to think they are “non-violent.” Generally, people claim to “abhor” the use of violence, and violence is viewed negatively by most folks. Many fail to differentiate between just and unjust violence. Some especially vain, self-righteous types like to think they have risen above the nasty, violent cultures of their ancestors. They say that “violence isn’t the answer.” They say that “violence doesn’t solve anything.”

They’re wrong. Every one of them relies on violence, every single day.

On election day, people from all walks of life line up to cast their ballots, and by doing so, they hope to influence who gets to wield the axe of authority. Those who want to end violence — as if that were possible or even desirable — often seek to disarm their fellow citizens. This does not actually end violence. It merely gives the state mob a monopoly on violence. This makes you “safer,” so long as you don’t piss off the boss.

All governments — left, right or other — are by their very nature coercive. They have to be.

    Order demands violence.

A rule not ultimately backed by the threat of violence is merely a suggestion. States rely on laws enforced by men ready to do violence against lawbreakers. Every tax, every code and every licensing requirement demands an escalating progression of penalties that, in the end, must result in the forcible seizure of property or imprisonment by armed men prepared to do violence in the event of resistance or non–compliance. Every time a soccer mom stands up and demands harsher penalties for drunk driving, or selling cigarettes to minors, or owning a pit bull, or not recycling, she is petitioning the state to use force to impose her will. She is no longer asking nicely. The viability of every family law, gun law, zoning law, traffic law, immigration law, import law, export law and financial regulation depends on both the willingness and wherewithal of the group to exact order by force.

When an environmentalist demands that we “save the whales,” he or she is in effect making the argument that saving the whales is so important that it is worth doing harm to humans who harm whales. The peaceful environmentalist is petitioning the leviathan to authorize the use of violence in the interest of protecting leviathans. If state leaders were to agree and express that it was, indeed, important to “save the whales,” but then decline to penalize those who bring harm to whales, or decline to enforce those penalties under threat of violent police or military action, the expressed sentiment would be a meaningless  gesture. Those who wanted to bring harm to whales would feel free to do so, as it is said, with impunity — without punishment.

Without action, words are just words. Without violence, laws are just words.

Violence isn’t the only answer, but it is the final answer.

One can make moral arguments and ethical arguments and appeals to reason, emotion, aesthetics, and compassion. People are certainly moved by these arguments, and when sufficiently persuaded –providing of course that they are not excessively inconvenienced — people often choose to moderate or change their behaviors.

However, the willful submission of many inevitably creates a vulnerability waiting to be exploited by any one person who shrugs off social and ethical norms. If every man lays down his arms and refuses to pick them up, the first man to pick them up can do whatever he wants. Peace can only be maintained without violence so long as everyone sticks to the bargain, and to maintain peace every single person in every successive generation — even after war is long forgotten — must continue to agree to remain peaceful. Forever and ever. No delinquent or upstart may ever ask, “Or Else What?,” because in a truly non-violent society, the best available answer is “Or else we won’t think you’re a very nice person and we’re not going to share with you.” Our troublemaker is free to reply, “I don’t care. I’ll take what I want.”

Violence is the final answer to the question, “Or else what?”

Violence is the gold standard, the reserve that guarantees order. In actuality, it is better than a gold standard, because violence has universal value. Violence transcends the quirks of philosophy, religion, technology and culture. People say that music is a universal language, but a punch in the face hurts the same no matter what language you speak or what kind of music you prefer. If you are trapped in a room with me and I grab a pipe and gesture to strike you with it, no matter who you are, your monkey brain will immediately understand “or else what.”  And thereby, a certain order is achieved.

The practical understanding of violence is as basic to human life and human order as is the idea that fire is hot. You can use it, but you must respect it. You can act against it, and you can sometimes control it, but you can’t just wish it away. Like wildfire, sometimes it is overwhelming and you won’t know it is coming until it is too late. Sometimes it is bigger than you. Ask the Cherokee, the Inca, the Romanovs, the Jews, the Confederates, the barbarians and the Romans. They all know “Or else what.”

The basic acknowledgement that order demands violence is not a revelation, but to some it may seem like one. The very notion may make some people apoplectic, and some will furiously attempt to dispute it with all sorts of convoluted and hypothetical arguments, because it doesn’t sound very “nice.” But something doesn’t need to be “nice” in order for it to be true. Reality doesn’t bend over to accommodate fantasy or sentimentality.

Our complex society relies on proxy violence to the extent that many average people in the private sector can wander through life without really having to understand or think deeply about violence, because we are removed from it. We can afford to perceive it as a distant, abstract problem to be solved through high-minded strategy and social programming. When violence comes knocking, we simply make a call, and the police come to “stop” the violence. Few civilians really take the time to think that what we are essentially doing is paying an armed band protection money to come and do orderly violence on our behalf. When those who would do violence to us are taken peacefully, most of us don’t really make the connection, we don’t even assert to ourselves that the reason a perpetrator allows himself to be arrested is because of the gun the officer’s hip or the implicit understanding that he will eventually be hunted down by more officers who have the authority to kill him if his is deemed a threat. That is, if he is deemed a threat to order.

There are something like two and a half million people incarcerated in the United States. Over ninety percent of them are men. Most of them did not turn themselves in. Most of them don’t try to escape at night because there is someone in a guard tower ready to shoot them. Many are “non-violent” offenders. Soccer moms, accountants, celebrity activists and free range vegans all send in their tax dollars, and by proxy spend billions and billions to feed an armed government that maintains order through violence.

It is when our ordered violence gives way to disordered violence, as in the aftermath of a natural disaster, that we are forced to see how much we rely on those who maintain order through violence.  People loot because they can, and kill because they think they’ll get away with it. Dealing with violence and finding violent men who will protect you from other violent men suddenly becomes a real and pressing concern.

A pal once told me a story about an incident recounted by a family friend who was a cop, and I think it gets the point across. A few teenagers were at the mall hanging out, outside a bookstore. They were goofing around and talking with some cops who were hanging around. The cop was a relatively big guy, not someone who you would want to mess around with. One of the kids told the cop that he didn’t see why society needed police.

The cop leaned over and said to the spindly kid, “do you have any doubt in your mind about whether or not I could break your arms and take that book away from you if I felt like it?”

The teenager, obviously shaken by the brutality of the statement, said, “No.”

“That’s why you need cops, kid.”

George Orwell wrote in his “Notes on Nationalism” that, for the pacifist, the truth that, “Those who ‘abjure’ violence can only do so because others are committing violence on their behalf,” is obvious but impossible to accept.  Much unreason flows from the inability to accept our passive reliance on violence for protection. Escapist fantasies of the John Lennon “Imagine” variety corrupt our ability to see the world as it is, and be honest with ourselves about the naturalness of violence to the human animal. There is no evidence to support the idea that man is an inherently peaceful creature. There is substantial evidence to support the notion that violence has always been a part of human life. Every day, archeologists unearth another primitive skull with damage from weapons or blunt force trauma. The very first legal codes were shockingly grisly. If we feel less threatened today, if we feel as though we live in a non–violent society, it is only because we have ceded so much power over our daily lives to the state. Some call this reason, but we might just as well call it laziness. A dangerous laziness, it would seem, given how little most people say they trust politicians.

Violence doesn’t come from movies or video games or music. Violence comes from people. It’s about time people woke up from their 1960s haze and started being honest about violence again. People are violent, and that’s OK. You can’t legislate it away or talk your way around it. Based on the available evidence, there’s no reason to believe that world peace will ever be achieved, or that violence can ever be “stopped.”

It’s time to quit worrying and learn to love the battle axe. History teaches us that if we don’t, someone else will.

The Dandy Desperado & Crew (Orbiting Mars)
Captain Montoya was on the bridge of the Dandy Desperado, when a distress signal briefly flashed over his screen. The signal was very weak and intermittent and lasted only a second. Checking the computer, Captain Montoya saw that the ship’s sensors caught only enough of it to place it somewhere Sol-wise of Mars (meaning the space between Mars and Earth) – way too vast a field to even consider searching without more data.

Perhaps Montoya could fine-tune the sensors, to try to pick the signal back up and narrow the field a bit.

Toying with it, he noted the signal corresponded with a recent solar flare. That wasn’t good. It meant the signal could have been caught up and carried along the edge of the flare like a twig in a wave. It meant the signal could have originated from anywhere between Mars and the Sun itself. No help there.

His thoughts were then interrupted by an incoming message popping up on his screen. Someone had sent an email to one of his honeypot accounts (all part of the master plan to root out and expose the Secret Society!).

    >>Captain Montoya, Dandy Desperado.

Meanwhile, in the Ship’s Lounge, the rest of the crew relax, after a day spent watching Simon and Gilbert blow their collective life savings at the slots in the various floating resorts orbiting Mars.

That’s when the new bounty hunting show, ‘The Solar System’s Most Wanted’ comes on.

Clyde – “Hello to all 350,000 bounty hunters in the system. This is ‘The Solar System’s Most Wanted and the Bounty hunters That Catch ‘Em’ with your favorite hosts, Bonnie and Clyde!”

Bonnie – “Today we have footage of the capture of Evil Ned by the ever-popular Cold Rock Johnson” (swoon).

Clyde – “But first, let’s see who’s new” (reviews a list in hand).  “Bushwa Bonnie, pickins are slim today – just one cake-eater: Genny Putkoff.”

Bonnie – “You mean the one wanted for stealing Milk Homogenization Equipment Clyde?”

Clyde – “The very same. The Bounty on him is 450,000w.”

    Bonnie – “Small Fry huh?”

Clyde – “Yes, well I guess you could do worse. And remember fly-boys, if you get footage of your capture, send it in and we’ll show it on the air!”

Bonnie – “You could win a dream vacation to the Floating Vegas on Venus.”

Clyde – “Thank you Bonnie. And now, let’s watch Cold Rock Johnson do his thing!”

Bonnie – “Oh Cold Rock!” (Swoon).

What follows is a series of ‘Cops’ style clips, featuring documentary-like interviews with Cold Rock Johnson – it’s all very riveting.

Something about the name rings a bell with Ethel.

    Yes, Genny Putkoff.

He won some kind of Science Award for his work in a Venus-based company called LifeCyclon. Maybe an after school science program or something?

Ethel remembers, because one of the companies she interned with (Umbra TeQ) was trying to establish a partnership with LifeCyclon; and the Company PR guys made a big deal about helping the community or some-such.

Hey all! While WAP2 is cool and all, I found another way to make regular BHB more subtle for using at work - just go into Look & Layout in your Profile and turn off Avatars and/or Sigs.

That way, your boss won't see a penguin with a mallet staring at them on the screen haha!

When you get home, just turn them back on!
