"Strange. I wonder if they understand the way the artifact works, and attempted to react as normal as possible, while still trying to prevent us from following them." Emend says, thinking out loud. He then turns to Saint.

"Regardless, they're clearly a powerful opponent, so I agree. Let's head back for now and plan our next move," he then turns to the remaining three.

"Whoever it was that showed up, was dangerous enough that we had to use the heart. I was hoping we could easily follow the four, but given what they did, it seems too risky to try now."

"It seems we can't stay here any longer. Let's move to another location," he states, entering his car. "There should be another parking garage nearby."

Alright, so I'm guessing without spirit Beats can't make a portal into the spirit realm.

However he does have a Gossamer Touch Imbued Cestus, which allows him to touch things in the spirit realm. So can use the scry Emend made as reference, to create a portal under Robor (in the earth realm), and pull him through it using his Gossamer Touch item?

Emend resists the urge to facepalm as he's reminded yet again as to why he should never let the other disciples do things on their own.

"You'd think by now I would have learned my lesson," he thinks to himself. Then, outwardly he addresses Beats.

"Beats, where is Robor, and what are you talking about? I thought the two of you just went to take care of the two vampires?"

Berka's saying we won't get an answer, so it seems like we go through with the plan to plant something on one of the witches.

Though they actually seem to be trying to find out where we went at the moment, which I guess makes sense.

He said we would get them till they leave, which makes sense. Chronologically Robot/Beats would have to finish with their mission first before joining us anyway. And until the demons make a move there's no reason for Emend to do anything other than watch. Him and Killer don't have a lot of info aside from "something bad happened before".

Looks like another week of slow updates.

Any clearity on what Emend, Killer and Usdi intend to do with the rest of the scene?

Get a response from Robor/Beats.

If they can come, stakeout the restaurant and ambush/follow the demons.
If they can't just try to place something on them to track them.

I am wondering why they stayed in the first place though, maybe they felt Emend’s scrying spell and stayed behind as bait?

They could also just not have cared and wanted to eat lol.

"A group of four demons in human guise entered the restaurant. The other half of whomever was about to get the jump on us drove off." Emend states, explaining the situation.

"We might be able to learn from them who the client was," he suggests. "If we can get Beats and Robor back before the group leaves. Of course... we could always just wait for Mr.Swane to setup another meeting for us. But I don't think that will end so well given how poorly this one must have gone."

With that, Emend begins texting their situation to Robor and Beats, to see if the duo are finished with their vampires yet.

"Do you know what happened back there? I imagine the Heart of Flies was used in some way, but beyond that I'm not sure," he asks Saint, as he continues to write up his text message.

With the knowledge that something bad was about to happen, Emend felt he had to work fast. He slipped his hand into his pocket and used his Switchbox rote to trigger a dummy call. After letting it ring once, he addressed it.

"Excuse me," he states, standing up and moving away a few feet to take the call. After nodding while pretending to to listen to his phone, he finishes the call by saying "We'll be right there", before heading back to the table.

"Terribly sorry to cut this short, but we have a business emergency that requires our immediate attention. I'm afraid we'll have to pick up this conversation at another time," he tells Mr.Swane, while motioning for Saint and Usdi to get moving. "However, now that you've confirmed the authenticity of the artifact, I'm sure your client will have no issue meeting us another time, correct?"

Yeah, I'm actually liking all the possibilities this turn of events present. But Killer did get one thing wrong. Memories are not retained, just that an ever deepening sense of dejavu associated with the situation.

I figure Killer will press the issue long enough to get the artifact to go back far enough to create an alternate outcome, being that it won't actually allow a permanent time loop.

Just need to figure how far back to go to offer a realistic alternative. Maybe as Mr. Swane sends his last text? Killer could jump up from the table and dash through the kitchen out the back as his mother walked in...[

Thoughts?

I was thinking as he pulls out the artifact to show it to him he'd get the sense of deja-vu, since he's actually touching the artifact. That depends on if her showing up is vital or not though.

Even if she doesn't plan to make a public move, this was most certainly a trap. We're at a disadvantage. I should have ignored the vampires and kept Robor and Beats on standby.

"The statue was the ward I altered earlier, and the tusks are used to gain immunity to fire, for a price. If the others used the tusks, then that leaves the sun as the only real weakness to them," Emend explains.

"That dirt has an empathetic link to someone, though I don't see why dirt would be that important to anyone. Perhaps Sarapheen would be able to take a guess. Regardless, we should destroy the tusk and cast a spell to keep an eye on the area, should they return," he says.

"The statue we should leave. We're already unaffected by it, it keeps outsiders out of harms way, and it's linked to something we likely don't want to awaken for no reason."

He then turns to Robor.

"We can finish them off later. Though if you insist on following vampires down a dark tunnel that likely leads to their allies alone then by all means, be my guest," he responds with a smirk.

With the pimp now hiding, Emend decides to be on the defensive and let the others deal the finishing blow. He'll use Rend the Weave if McHoe tries to do anything, otherwise he'll use his control fire and influence fire combo to deal with any other surprises.
