. . . Turns out the answer is "no, we're not sure it isn't cancer." :/

"in fact, we don't know what the Fark it is, but it's not normal."

So now they're looking for the slides from my appendectomess to see how much it's changed since then.

And the dr asked my permission to present it to "The Tumor Board," because it's "definitely unusual." Xd

Anyway, that's where I've been.  Sorry.  Hope things are well for everyone.

Home from surgery.

Good news: it wasn't a hernia

There was a lot of weird crap in there.  Mostly: a piece of my appendix that they missed in 2009. Also that cystic thing, which has been sent to the "are you sure this isn't cancer" lab.

Thanks everyone who cares. *_^. Super high right now.  Prolly still down/out for the next week they said

Elizabeth nodded. "Then . . . Yes.

Or, I do, or whatever I'm supposed to say."

"'When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness.' C.S. Lewis," Elizabeth said automatically.  Her brain felt like an overclocked computer trying to avoid burning out. She needed to focus her scattered thoughts.  Focus on what was most important.

"Will I still be me?"

Once again, Elizabeth said the first thing that came to mind.  "I-- why do I want to Ascend? Wait, people become Angels? This- what about my life?"

Yeah, how does that work with Kickstarter? If it isn't funded, do I get the donation back? If so, then I would be happy to just send it back to you via paypal or the like after the fact.  :)

You don't actually pay until the final day of the fundraising period.  If the project doesn't meet its goal, then they never charge your card.

It's just cuz if you don't think you'll make it it might be better to use indygogo or something like that, or I could send you the money personally instead of sending it to kickstarter

I don't want to be just like 'hey, send me money,' and I don't think I could make this game without time off from my regular job.
This way is simple: if I get the $, I can make the game.  If I don't, I can't.
Then I don't have twenty ppl who thought they were getting a game I don't have time to make.

I'll give what I can once I get around to getting a bank account. You think you'll make your goal? (Kickstarted doesn't let you keep your proceeds of you don't meet your goal).

Yeah, I know. And honestly? I'm 90% certain I won't make it.  But that'd be 100% if I didn't even try.

So, it is what it is. Maybe I'll get lucky.

A thousand questions fluttered through Elizabeth's mind.  What came out of her mouth was, "What do you mean, you're new to all this Angel stuff?"

As you might remember from "So, I might be dying II," I'm having surgery at the end of September.
They're telling me the recovery time is at least a month.  Unfortunately, my job only pays half wage for short term disability. So, I'm trying to find something I can do to make up for lost wages.  And my options are kinda limited by the fact that I can't do much that isn't just using a computer.

If I can get this funded, I can afford to take medical leave. And I'll have 50+ hours a week to devote solely to the creation of this story.

This one is part of the ever-popular "transfer student discovers their new school is weird" genre.
(Drakilian, come back, I promise it isn't a 'school game.')
You're a serial killer, and the school is full of demons.

The basic game has demon hunters, succubi, werewolves, and over 20 different endings.
You can play as male or female, each with their own unique storyline, and there are male and female optional romance sidequests for both characters.

There are also options to fund extended editions of the game.  These take the basic edition and add new content:

Lovely
This is the version I would buy, if I were purchasing the game instead of writing it.
New romance options, more characters, and a whole new storyline focused on the relationship-building aspect of the game.

Deadly
Drak, this is for you: a version focused on grimdark.
More 'bad' endings, more options for NPC death, and a whole new storyline focused on the serial-killer aspect of the game.
Yes, the basic edition's romance is still in there, but you can ignore it.  In fact, you can kill off all the love interests so you don't have to worry about accidentally triggering a love story.

Devilish
The Ultra-Deluxe version of the game.  Has all the content from both Lovely and Deadly editions, as well as a third completely new storyline.

Elizabeth made a sound.  The same sound she'd been making for a while now.  She was crying, but by this point she was so dehydrated that no tears remained. Just a ragged, rasping vocalization of the intake of breath.

What she said was "Ah-hhh, ah-hhh, ah-hhh."

What she meant was "I can't do this anymore.  I can't do this anymore."

"Oh.  Shit.  Oh."  Elizabeth stared at the blood soaking through her clothing, then gazed up at the doctor in bewilderment.
 "You shot me."

Left arm clamped over the hole in her side, she grasped the doorframe to pull herself upright.
"You shot me."

Numb with shock and confusion, she staggered slowly into the darkness of the mill.

Disciples / Re: Words Can Never Hurt Me (Elizabeth Hastings Prolog)

"Hey! You've got a gun," Elizabeth helpfulkt pointed out to the good doctor.  "Why do you have a gun?"

She raised her hands to the classic 'please-don't-shoot-me' position and walked toward Dr toht and the entrance to the mill.

"I thought you were a really nice guy," she said, pausing as she reached the dr.  "Why is it every time I like a guy, he ends up trying to kill me?  It's always 'oh it's not you, it's me,' or 'Shub-Niggurath demands a virgin' or--"

Quickly, she attempted to kick the dr in the privates & wrestle the gun away from him.

16
Elizabeth can't remember the last time she had this much fun talking to a real life person.  She gets out of the car.

17
"That sounds exciting!!  Other samples, I mean, not things that are distracting and frightening."

"Exploratory laparoscopy, but we can't fit you in til the end of September.  Oh and by the way we think you probably have a hernia too."

19
"Wow, that's amazing," Elizabeth said.  "How did something so special end up accidentally shipped to us?"

who's mort? XD

21
"Um, yeah!" Elizabeth said with surprise.  Dr Toht was turning out to be a pretty nice guy.  "Why did you call it that?"

22
"Supernatural?!"  Elizabeth exclaimed.  "Absolutely!

"I used to love that show, but after Eric Kripke left it went downhill so hard.  It's just ridiculous now, sad really.  I mean. . . oh.  Oh.

"Um. . . the supernatural.  Yeah. . . I guess. . . I don't disbelieve in the supernatural, would be accurate?"

23
"In the dream I could read the codex," said Elizabeth.  "It was about an ancient djinn that granted wishes.  And I just got to the part that told you how to imminent it when I woke up.  Dreams are funny like that, you know? They'd be terrible tv shows.  Like that one detective drama I was watching.  Four seasons, I was watching it, and the very end?  The detective gets shot!  And that's how the series ends!  Thanks fir watching, I guess he's dead."

24
Self-defense Rule #97: Don't take rides from strangers.  But dr toht wasn't a stranger, he was a fellow academician.  Plus, everybody knows intellectuals use strength as a dump stat.  Well, okay, that or charisma.  But dr toht seems personable.  Sort of.  What were we talking about again?

"I'd love to," said Elizabeth.

25
"Well, I didn't really 'read' it, so much I 'had a really weird dream about it.'"

26
"Why do you call it Wormwood?" Elizabeth wondered out loud.  "You mean, like the star in Revelations?  The codex is about djinn, isn't it? What does that have to do with the Apocalypse?"

"Oh hi!" said Elizabeth, holding out the grocery bag before hurriedly switching it to her left hand so she could complete the handshake.

"Um. . . " and back to the grocery bag in search of the lead codex.  "Here it is!"

30
"Oh.  Right."

She gathered her things, and went out the sliding glass door.

Yep, they live outdoors.  Once in a while my wife talks about maybe bringing them in overwinter (her cousin does with his) but if they died then, it would feel like we personally killed them.

This group is only 2-3 winters old.  A few years ago it was really cold and the pond froze over, so they all perished.  :'(
It was the second time we lost everyone due to pond freezing completely over.  Usually we have a heater that keeps an air hole open.

The most I ever had was somewhere above 20 at one point, but that was too many for the pond size I guess and not all of them made it through the winter.   We usually lose only one or two.  Also most years we lose one or two to herons, despite efforts to cover the pond with netting & such.

The biggest one I have right now is nearly 9 inches long.  This pond seems to top out at just about 12 inches.
(I've heard that in a bigger pond you can get them in the 15-18 inch range.)

So back a couple years ago, last time we bought pond fish, a tiny bonus fish got into the bag. We hadn't seen him in a long time.

Then just this year, we started noticing him again.  He was solid black, so he was hard to see.

When he got about 4 inches long, he started slowly turning orange- like the black was rubbing off of him showing orange underneath.  But not orange like the red&white sarassa, goldfish orange, more like the shubunkin.  We do have one that's all orange and black, with no bluegray or white on him.

So for a while he was mostly orange with scattered black.   Then overnight, his whole body turned ghost white.  his head has a calico orange pattern on it still, but the entire rest of him is translucent/iridescent white.  (again, not like the chalkwhite of the sarassa)

TL;DR seth haz a fishy

Thank you everyone for wellwishing. ^_^

The funniest thing was, the nurse at the specialists was actually just back to work after her appendix ruptured back in May.  This is what you have to look forward to in 6 or 7 years!! yay!! XD

34
"Eeep!" said Elizabeth, slamming the door.

"What the hell, wasps?" she shouted at them from behind the relative safety of 3 inches of reinforced plywood.  "What is your problem?"  She backed away from the door and considered her options.

"It's a good thing Dr Toht isn't coming over here," she told the codex.  "But how am I going to get out?"  She looked out the window at her messenger bag.  "Oh, right!  The window!"

35
"Oh right. . . that weird wasp. . ." she said to no one in particular.  "Maybe I could just get a different purse?"

Elizabeth went to the front hall closet and began to search for another bag, conducting an imaginary conversation with Mr Pique under her breath as she did so.

"So, it looks like it's probably Proto-Sumerian in origin. . . Something about a djinn, granting wishes. . . Isn't it strange that the codex is made of lead? . . Crap, none of these are large enough."

Having failed to locate a purse capable of containing the lead codex in addition to the rest of her belongings, Elizabeth was left with no choice but to brave the suspicious candywasp.

She opened the front door, and looked out.  "Hey, are you still out there?"

Come internet friends & be regaled with the overly-explicit tale of Seth's surgical adventures:

So I saw a specialist today & she recommended referral to a general surgeon.
She pulled up my surgical records from appendectomess & reviewed the surgeons notes on procedures. According to her, when I went back 3 months later for laproscopy to remove appendix nub (srsly, surgeon called it a "nubbin" in the report >_<) there was a large mucin pocket they removed but they couldn't find a hole it might've been leaking from.  There were also adhesions all the way from both drainage tube ports on my left, across suprapubital area (which is where pain lives usually) to where appendix used to be.

So anyway, she said the current MRI is consistent with mucin, which I guess means it was either there all this time, or something else is leaking. And pain could be from that or from scar tissue pulling stuff. Either way, best to open & see what's up.

37
"That's weird," Elizabeth said to the phone.  "I wonder why Mr Pique is so interested.  Didn't think he even saw it."

Still, she took her cracked phone and began to take pictures of each page, intending to send them to mr pique, as well as save them to her desktop and store them in the cloud, and email them to her brother. (Elizabeth had learned a long time ago that you could never have too many backup copies.)

38
"Uh, I guess I'm not doing anything," Elizabeth replies.  "Should I come down to your office then?"

39
"Oh! Yes!"  Elizabeth happily replies.  "I took it home for further research. It wasn't on he manifest and I wasn't sure how to catalogue it."
