Origins and GenCon 2009

Hi all – I just wanted to let everyone know early that we will be at both Origins and GenCon 2009.

This will be a great opportunity to play the game with the author (yours truly) and those that helped create it.

For Origins, I will be running 4 – 6 BHB Sessions and have hardcopies of the rules available for special convention only discounted sales.

For Gencon, I will be running at least 2 BHB Sessions, with a friend and fellow playtester running another 2 – 4, and of course will again have hardcopies of the rules available for more special convention only discounted sales.

Keep an eye out on the Origins and GenCon websites, as I will be submitting my events soon – which in the past, they have all filled up in three days or less, so be ready  ;D

There is a slim chance I will be at Gen Con myself... so if I and JP days cross I may sit in on one of those games...:)

Free Swag

I'm going to be giving away special 2009 Origins and Gencon editions of the Adventures that we are going to be running at the conventions.  These will be handed out at the tables after each game  ;D

Phew – my schedule for Origins looks pretty full!  If all of my events are excepted, I’ll be running 10 events (7 of which are BHB)  ;D

OK, after having some sense slapped into me by my wife  ;) - I've decided that the above schedule might be a little too much for me to pull off - so I'm going with 9 events (6 BHB)  :)

Oh, and I might note that everything with the exception of Bad Seed, Call of PikaChulu, and the Women's Self Defense Seminar is Bounty Head Bebop  :)

(Bad Seed and Call of PikaChulu are d20 Call of Cthulhu BTW)

ok, so I've been doing some planning concerning Origins. The best deal I can get flight-wise is:

arrival time to Columbus, OH: Wed, 2:20 pm
Leaving Sun 5:00 pm

Can anyone give me some information concerning hotels or can anyone spare some floor room in return for at least 1/3 of the room price?

We'd love to play at your game - not sure enough though to sign up and take the seats though - mayhaps you might let two wandering waifs in with generics, should the oportunity present itself?

Indeed! I gladly take generics for any open seats. I'm planning it for 6 players, but I'll make up a 7th just in case. Can't go over that though. I'm still too green of a DM!! So that means you're just gonna HAVE to get there  :D

You'll like Origins. It's not so big and hectic as GC. All the RPG's are located in the convention center in easy to find rooms. Everything is closer and it's much easier to get some downtime to relax.
I really hope that GenCon will someday be able to have the majority of it's games located in one or two places rather than spread all over like 3 city blocks.

Oh Yeah, It was more than three city blocks in 2007  :P  Good thing I thought ahead enough to put a hour downtime between each event I had signed up for - lots of running around with my crazy 'bag lady' cart of gaming stuff ;D

Hey, guys. Long time lurker, first time poster.
Picked up BHB from IPR not long ago and was very impressed with it. Anime style fun, accessable system, fast and easy to get into.

Just got registered for GenCon, and signed up for two games, Zombies on Wed and Psychics Fri morning.
Looking forward to gaming with the people behind the game itself.
And maybe if it's not too fanboyish, getting my book signed.

Quick question:

How long before we get some hexslinging in our BHB?

Thanks.

Hi blackheart and welcome to the Comlink :)

It’s great to hear that folks are not only signing up for our games, but are taking a look over here at the Forums.  Check the place out and let us know what you think – I’m sure you’ll find something worthwhile.  Also feel free to add your own ideas or suggestions.

For GenCon, do you mean Thursday and Saturday for your games?

The ‘Did Somebody Say Zombies?’ game will be run by my good friend Jay Pietkiewicz, who helped playtest the heck out of the game in its development.  He’s also running ‘Fortune Cookie Fix’.

I’ll be running The two ‘Operation A.P.E.’ games, as well as ‘Ghost In The Machine’, and ‘Velociraptor Rhapsody’.

I’ll be more than happy to sign books and will also be at the Indie Press Revolution booth (not sure when yet) at some point during the Con.  We also have some decent swag in the works to hand out at our games :)

For your Bounty Head Bebop games, you can make and bring your own character, or simply pick one out of the Archetypes (Free on RPGNow.com) an jump right in.

As for the Hexslinging, it will be rolled into our Fantasy Worlds Supplement, which will include Fantasy Bebop, Suggestions for Modern Fantasy, the Hexslinging system, and Monsters.  If you read through the Updates As They Happen thread, you’ll see more information on it’s development.

Anyway – welcome – let me know if you have any other questions :)

Bringing Your Own BHB Characters To Origins and GenCon 2009

For those signed up for our Bounty Head Bebop games at Origins and GenCon 2009, feel free to make and bring in your own characters, or simply pick one out of the Archetypes Packet (Free on RPGNow.com) and jump right in.

Either way, we will be taking a few minutes at the start of each game session to tweak and modify characters to suite, including (for some games) spending extra XP to build base characters up to the level of the adventure.

Here’s a rundown of what you’ll want for each Session:

Ghost In The Machine
Inexperienced characters work well here.  You can take an Archetype and go with it, or add some Flaws for additional Edges.  For game balance, specialized weapons and/or equipment may or may not be granted depending upon the request.

Operation A.P.E.
Characters in this game get 8–10 additional XP to spend, and we’ll have a Shopping Spree prior to the adventure to try for some of the heavier weapons and/or equipment.

Did Somebody Say Zombies?
Characters in this game get 12–15 additional XP to spend.  For game balance, specialized weapons and/or equipment may or may not be granted depending upon the request.

Fortune Cookie Fix
As I am not running this event, it is up to the GM (Jay Pietkiewicz), though for his reference, the adventure was written for about 16–20 XP characters.

Velociraptor Rhapsody
Characters in this game get 20–25 additional XP to spend.  For game balance, specialized weapons and/or equipment may or may not be granted depending upon the request – though a ‘Ship’s Stores’ list of goodies will be provided to properly outfit the characters at the start of the adventure.

Also Note
Players signed up for more than one game are welcome to use the same character more than once.  In this case, they can keep their XP bumps, but will be restricted on weapons and/or equipment, per the requisites of the adventures in question – no, you can’t take your flamethrower and military flak jacket from Velociraptor Rhapsody with you to your Ghost in The Machine game  ;)

Any questions about building your characters, feel free to ask here, or in the Character Creation Help thread :)

Another long time lurker here who just signed up for some GenCon games (Fortune Cookie Fix and Operation A.P.E.).  Been looking forward to trying out this game for like 6-7 months and it looks like GenCon will be my first time.
