Captain Montoya and the others back away from the mill. Not surprisingly, no one is coming out.

"It's just to use as a threat, I won't really blow him up!" he exclaims, sad the others didn't trust him. Finally seeing nothing moving he heads back over, "ok test two, let's see if we can break in!" he announces.

"What'd you find?" Ezekiel asks, following Montoya back in.

"Some sort of trapdoor?"

Once inside, Ezekiel gets a look t he trap door.

"Could blast it open," he say, "but we'd need to clear all these oil drums out of here first, unless we want a huge fire."

"Damn lot of work that would be just for one guy though..."

"I was hoping to threaten him out but I have no idea if he will listen, or even hear us from in there."

He bangs really loudly on the trapdoor with a piece of wood just incase.

Then sighs and starts rolling barrels "let's get it over with then" he says in an overly dejected manner.

It takes a decent amount of time to roll all the oil drums out from under the control room, but once that is done, Captain Montoya is able to use his Demolition skills to place a three-stick dynamite charge over the trapdoor.

The charge goes off, blasting the steel door open and wrecking the underside of the control room above, but otherwise being a complete success.

The smoking hole reveals a steep set of rough-cut timber stairs going fifteen feet down. At the bottom of the stairs is a landing, where two tunnels lead out – one to the east and one to the south that drops down at a gentle slope. Also in the chamber is a beat up old deep freezer along the north wall.

While there is no power down here to plug the deep freezer into, it stays cold because of some large blocks of ice, a number of frozen trout, and some wrapped deer steaks kept within.

Bolt Hole

Montoya looks around then nods "Once we get the bountyheads, we take the steaks too!" He looks to Ezekiel "You better go right and I'll take left, people never choose left! Natalia can guard the exit or come with one of us!"

Clearly excited again he starts moving down the eastern corridor, looking for traps as he goes.

Natalia bites her bottom lip gently, disliking the situation no matter which way you cut it.

"I'll go with you." She whisper's to Montoya.

She follows 6 or 7 feet behind him, watching where they've come from more than where they're going.

"Right then," Ezekiel replies, cautiously heading down the slope to the south.

As Captain Montoya moves up the east tunnel, followed at a distance by Natalia, two large hounds abruptly leap from a five foot high ledge in the darkness up ahead to attack!

What's really surprising however, is that the beasts are actually mastiff poodles – large and white, with short curly hair – though certainly not bobbed or cut into ridiculous poofs. That, and the dogs don’t bark or growl. They have obviously been trained to hunt and guard with a sense of stealth.

Montoya immediatly throws a stun grenade and draws his sword in one hand and thumper pistol in the other ready to fight like a swashbuckler.

He of course flicks on his fight music and poses dramatically as he prepares to counter the dogs attack right in the middle of the tunnel without hiding at all.

She whirls around, panic stricken expression across her face. Seeing Montoya's flamboyance, she steadies suddenly.

"Fire for affect."

Natalia's inflection is not her own, but it sounds natural. A follower of her films might know from where it comes.

She raises her deck pistol and, taking a moment's aim, fire's at approaching canines. Hitting one isn't necessarily her goal, but gunfire is as good a reminder as any that someone has your back.

Capt. Montoya calls back quietly into his comms so that their target won't hear "Flank him incase he runs!"

He then holds in the stun button on his sword and slashes at the dog that had lunged for him to try and wound/stun it too. Keeping a little energy back for another dodge if needed.

Edit: Surge point from Natalia used for second Attack using pistol if dog is not stunned by the first Attack.

Captain Montoya swings his pirate cutlass at Mr. Charles, but misses, when the beast catches Montoya's sleeve in its teeth! Montoya is able to shoot the dog in the chest with his deck pistol for  13 Damage - Wounding it!

Mr. Charles, doesn't take too kindly to getting shot.

Captain Montoya fires a thumper round from a flintlock and hits Jeremiah in the back for 16 Damage - eliciting a loud "Ooof!" from the mountain man and causing him to stumble.

Jeremiah spends Luck to beat the Captain on the sprint and disappears out through the trapdoor!

Montoya and Natalia both see that Jeremiah was carrying a shotgun with a deck pistol on his hip.

Natalia heads to where she heard Ezekiel fall. Looking over the edge, she sees Ezekiel clinging to the side of the sixty food deep well.

"Ack... Got a rope?" he coughs weakly.

---

Captain Montoya meanwhile, chases Jeremiah out the trapdoor and across the mill to the loading dock.

There, Jeremiah holds up and spins around to face Montoya, bringing an old double-barrel shotgun to bare (but doesn't fire). Montoya is just about to let loose with his second flintlock, when someone atop the log pile yells "Freeze! Don't Move!"

Montoya looks and sees two mountain men with rifles at the opening to the saw table. There also appears to be another mountain man set up on the crane with another rifle.

A transmission comes over Montoya's Comm, though Natalia hears only more static.

"Tried to warn you boss!" Olesko Jones' voice says from aboard the Swamp Rat 9, as it circles over the mill. "Afraid I can't help you with this one; but I'll stick around to see if anyone's left to give a ride to afterwards haha! Good luck. You'll need it!"

One of the mountain men meanwhile growls - "How many times is Old Monti gona try an
pull this crap, before he realizes he just ain’t gona catch old Jeremiah Jackson? Give the man a
break already!"

Jeremiah replies – “Hey, it ain’t like I wouldn't give Monti the slip like I always do!”

Then looking at Captain Montoya, Jeremiah adds - "Might want to stand down now partner. It's five against one."

It clicks suddenly how important it was that she came along, seeing Ezekiel down there, they both might have died down here.

"I guess it's a good thing I came along after all! Hold on, I'll look for one."

Natalia looks about the room for anything she might use. Not necessarily a rope, but something along that line of use.

Near the edge of the shaft is a bucket and coiled rope, used to pull fresh water up from the pool below. Natalia lowers it down, and Ezekiel grabs hold, but Nataliah knows she won't be able to pull Ezekiel up by herself and Ezekiel knows he won't be able to hold on long enough to get pulled up...

---

Outside, the Mountain man leader replies to Montoya - "Glad to see you're willin' to talk with words, rather than lead."

"So, this Bounty," he goes on motioning to Jeremiah, "paid for by the Onasis Naturals Corporation, right?"

"Well, the Onasis Naturals Corporation CEO, Montague Onasis the Fourth has a thing for staging his own little ‘Martian Hunts’ – you know the kind, where some poor shlub is released into the wilderness, only to be tracked down and killed like some kind of animal."

"Old Monti hit a snag in his hunts though, when he got a hold a Jeremiah Jackson. When Jeremiah managed to escape the hunt, Montague was tee’d off enough to put a bounty on ‘im, just so he could try again.  Sort of a ‘redo’ if ya will."

"But yeah, imagine his old Monti’s embarrassment when Jackson escaped a second time."

"Humph! The guy's an amateur," Jeremiah spits.

The mountain man leader shakes his head and continues - "Ya might say Montague Onasis the Fourth has become a little obsessed with Jackson. He won’t stop till he gets him under his own set of rules."

"This here is the fourth time Jackson’s been bountified."

"You guys will take him to Europa and he’ll be back here on Callisto within a few hours, once again playing in old Monti’s twisted game. And when Jackson gets away again, the whole mess will start all over."

"Except this time, we’re gona to put a stop to it before it starts..."

The Capt thinks for a few moments before replying "A gentleman is always willing to talk, especially if he is being missed by his employer. But why not use this opportunity to hunt him instead?" he gives a big grin "We give you a couple of scuffs then say the round I put in your back stunned you enough to give in. He pays us then brings you back here to 'hunt' you but instead your buddies lie in wait for him and take him out yourselves. We all win and you permanently get him off your back, you could even hire my crew to... Assist you in this." he adds

'I bet I could do this if I'd brought some of my...Oh shoot no, I saw this in a movie once.'

She looks around the room for anything sturdy enough that she might be able to lay it over the mouth of the shaft and use it as a pulley.

Looking around, Natalia finds that a bed, table, and kerosene heater occupy a bunker-like area nearby, the chamber of which is ten feet lower than the level of the Landing above.

A set of storage shelves, full of supplies and equipment, has also been built into a natural recess in the north wall of the chamber, while another steep passage exits the area at a forty five degree slope (requiring a Climb roll to navigate) to the northeast that heads up to the Rise.

The equipment on the shelves consists of a breaking and entering kit, construction tools, optical binoculars, an outdoor gear kit, and a half dozen signal flares.

Ezekiel meanwhile, Surges to tie the bucket rope around himself.

Topside meanwhile, the Mountain Man Leader replies to Captain Montoya - "Yeah, that's the idea; but we never know where they take Jeremiah till after the fact. They keep the locations of their hunts a secret."

"We got this though," he continues, producing from his pocket a tracking device about the size of a flashlight battery.

“This here is a Net activated tracking beacon. It goes in Jackson..."

"AW HELL NO!" Jackson protests...

"Not that way Jackson!" the leader replies, "Surgical-like."

"DAMN STRAIGHT! SURGICAL LIKE!" Jeremiah affirms with a nod.

The Mountain Man leader waits to make sure Jeremiah is done - and then continues - "Then we wait till he’s back on Callisto. At that point, the tracking device will self-activate across the Net and show us where they take him for their hunt."

"Only this time Jackson won’t be alone. Me and my boys will be there with a nice little surprise for Ol’ Montie…”

“All you have to do then is let us put this here tracking device in Jackson, turn him in, collect yer money, and keep yer mouth’s shut. We’ll take care of the rest."

Capt. Montoya flourishes a bow "And we get paid to assist in bringing a corrupt man to justice!" do you have the facilities you need? Or do you require help with that?" Montoya asks keen to help out in the plan, he gets to act as a hero of Justice and any official this corrupt must have some links to the secret society too.

"No, I think we can handle it," the Mountain Man leader replies, thinking Montoya may be too much of a loose cannon.

"You can tell your partners that we're on your side though," he continues, "Maybe then your ride will come back."

Here the Mountain Man leader tells his men to stand down.

"Any clean places here we could do this surgery?" he then asks, "just need to plant this under the skin and wrap it like a wound. Could say you got shot."

"Yeah, down there I got a bunker," Jeremiah directs.

Meanwhile, Natalia wedged a spike hammer's ends among the rocks and then ran the rope over then under it. She ties the end of the rope around herself and looks down into the well,

"Okay, so, this is how, I think, this works. We don't weigh all that much different. I've also got this vest on. So I'm pretty much going to climb downwards and you'll just have to guide yourself up. You might need to work at it a little, but I'll bet you can handle it. When we meet half way, I can give you some pain pills."

She starts the descent, "Oh, and when you get to the top I'll just climb back up, sense I'm not hurt or anything."

Montoya shrugs happily enough "Well I better check on the other two, I think you might have killed him back there" he pauses and calls the Capt of the broken excuse for a ship "All sorted down here, we can be picked up soon!" he says cheerfully

He then heads back down to Natalia, calling ahead "Coming back in, situation is all resolved now. Slight change of plans though!"

"You got it boss!" Swam Rat 9 comes back and returns to the clearing as everyone heads down into the bolt hole.

Captain Montoya finds Natalia about to lower herself down the well - and stops her before she inadvertently kills herself and Ezekiel.

The Mountain Men help haul Ezekiel out, where he gladly takes one of Nataliah's pain pills.

"Sorry about that," Jeremiah says, "Figured the water would break your fall. Looks like it worked, sort of."
