Automobile Collision
« on: September 12, 2015, 11:22:31 pm »

A guy in some dinky red car pulled out in front of me right after I exited the interstate about 2 hours ago. Totaled my vehicle. Somehow I'm not hurt.

Wanted to throw this out here. Because. Wow. I was able to run to the other guy's vehicle and make sure he was okay. Difficult to process at the time. There were under two seconds from the time he came into my field of view, and when our vehicles collided and spontaneously snapped into break dancing routines.

I was thinking about the fact that If I'd been killed, likely none of you guys would ever have any idea as to what happened.

Damn. Glad you're okay.

I truly appreciate it.

I have an abrasion on my shin, my body is going to be really sore from the impact come tomorrow, and my book bag was launched from the backseat and, I'll choose to use the word "glanced," off the back of my head.

Seat belts save lives ladies and gentlemen. Also, so does making sure a lane is clear before trying to cross it.

Thank God. Wow that's scary. We've had a couple really active people on the site just simply disappear without a word and never return, and honestly my thoughts usually turn to a fatal car-related incident as an explanation -it's just such a common way to get hurt that you're really lucky to have gotten out unharmed.
Good to see you're okay, man.

The guy had two stickers on his back windshield,

“If one day the speed kills me, don't cry. Because I was smiling.”

and

"FUKENMUVEN" with an umlaut over the "U."

Wow, sorry about your bad luck Ugilick! Was the guy trying to kill himself by car or what? Even so, it will probably hit your insurance prety hard and there's the whole 'don't have a car right now' aspect. That really blows man. Sorry to hear.  :(

I'll change insurance agencies if they try to change my monthly premium. In all the years I've driven now, this is the first incident I've been involved in. The collision wasn't my fault, and there was nothing I could do. The other guy's insurance will have to pay all of it. I've got another vehicle I can use in the meantime.

The only pain I expect from all this is the literal pain in my neck. haha

Is it strange? ... I never really thought so. I've had it before.

Glad you're ok, Ugilick.

I meant that it would be really strange if it had happened, I've had the thought myself before but thinking about if it was a reality and someone vanished without us ever knowing why is strange to me

Lucky.  My state's no-fault.

Lucky.  My state's no-fault.

I don't know for sure what that means, but it sounds like incentive for people to cause accidents.

When that guy literally said, "Yeah, I couldn't really see, but decided I'd just shoot the gap." That indicates that he faltered, and that there was nothing that I could have done to keep him from causing me and my vehicle irreparable harm.

Basically, no fault means it doesn't matter who caused the accident.  My insurance pays my claim, your insurance pays yours.  My insurance might take your insurance to small-claims court to try & recover my deductible, but that's about it.

Being in an accident Farks your premium.  Even if you were in the left turn lane with your signal on, waiting to turn, and the other guy was driving 49mph in the turn lane & crashed head-on into you because he wasn't looking at the road.

@Seth

Okay. Kinda what I expected. That's pretty silly in practical application.

The idea is that they can give cheaper premiums because there's no litigation over whose fault it was, plus you don't have to wait for the court to rule on whose fault it was before you can get your car fixed or have to pay yourself & wait for reimbursement.

Right, those seem like good ideas. But looking at the very situation I'm in now, I feel like the practical application of it is pretty weak.

Nice, I know sometimes people are blatantly at fault and admit it at the time but then start spewing bull during settlement stages so really glad it went smoothly.
