I mean, you could, but Maximus (along with one other NPC servant - Carinus) has Iron Will (Carinus also has maxed willpower and has Judge's Wisdom on top of his Iron will, a combination that is not legally allowed in the base game but i've waived that). For Carinus it's because he was based off Hannibal, whose will and psyche were indomitable, and for Maximus it's because he was the only gargoyle with the will necessary to rebel against the Tremere in the thirteenth brood, and was chosen by Etrius as a gift for Steeple specifically because of his unique mental capacities.

Shhh what I want has nothing to do with it, Prince Maurice is insulted by Barabus' actions, Seth leaving means Husayn takes over means Kiril's servants are given their freedom, and Maximus' overprotectiveness means he wants to smash Barabus' head in, it's not my fault everything is building up for an impending confrontation.

Though I don't think Barabus is going to make it to Steeple, considering he'd have to kill Elias and Hashim, along with (at least) torpor-ing Maximus and Minimus in order to get to Steeple. Maybe if he was still possessed, but definitely not as-is.

Though, there is potential for this since I want to kill off John, John is one of Vladi's servants, and you also want Steeple to kill John, as Barabus+John would be significantly more of a threat than just Barabus himself.

Just to clarify, Steeple plans to go with Heldric first thing to the warehouse to try Illuminate Trail of Prey with each name.

Should he see Barabus, he'll use his Scibe ritual to set up a duel challenge.

If he's still alive by the end of the adventure, he intends to take out John, before leaving town.

I'm pretty sure that all of Steeple's conversations with Prince Maurice are completely out loud, and i've just been assuming that the rest of the characters just choose to ignore when Steeple starts talking to thin air (I mean, they all hear dead people's voices telling them to do things too at this point anyway...)
