Recap ~
Ash, Misty, Brock, and Pikachu have joined Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny in a search of the wilderness between Pallet Town and Viridian City for the source of strange mutations that seem to be effecting the local Pokémon.

Having found a trail of Squirtle tracks leading east from the coast - and finding that they diffuse as they go along - the team has finally decided to head west towards the coast to see if that holds any answers.

That, and Pikachu noticed something strange just off the coast, while flying around on Scyther...

As the team heads west, the Chief suddenly calls into Officer Jenny’s radio to relay the following information:

"Officer Jenny, I spoke with the two Detectives on the case and the word 'R’Lyeh' comes from a strange Pokédex called the Pokénomicon. The Pokénomicon was found on Cinnabar Island by the grandson of the local Pokélab administrator, Professor Pine. Apparently, it washed up on the beach and was found by the boy, who took it to show his grandpa. Professor Pine immediately recognized it as no ordinary Pokédex and took it to his Pokélab for study."

"The Pokénomicon was black, not red like a normal Pokédex, and ancient looking, made worse by its waterlogged state. It really had no business being functional; tangled in seaweed with saltwater pouring from its case; but there it was – filled with data and strange new Pokémon, some of which were quite frightening. The seawater must have shorted out its voice, as it could not speak, but it did contain text and references, all in a strange and unknown language – “R’Lyeh, PikaChulu, Fatagn!”

"Unfortunately, an unknown party stole the Pokénomicon from the Pokélab before it could offer much info on its origin and purpose. It was not long after its disappearance that the strange Pokémon started appearing between Viridian City and Pallet Town, leading one to suspect that it has been relocated from Cinnabar Island to this area."

We should investgate it! But we should also be careful - those places are notorious for having crazy guys waiting in corners to throw pokéballs at you.

"Okay, get out of the ball you two" he states, releasing his last two Pokemon from their cells.

As the team stopped to check their Pokémon, they were relieved to find that no more of them had yet become infected with whatever had taken over the Squirtles and Onyx.

The sense of relief was such that it abruptly snapped Officer Jenny and Brock out of their current Psychosis - Though Pikachu was still hearing voices for some reason...

'Of course you have a slipper!' the Voice growled at Pikachu, 'Right there behind your back. You just reach around and pull it out!'

Overcome with a strange compulsion to see if it was true, Pikachu found himself reaching behind his back and indeed pulled out a fuzzy pink slipper...

---

(OOC - Officer Jenny and Brock no longer effected by Temporary Insanities - Ash retains his Licking Compulsion, but it now only applies to PokeThulu Monsters - Pikachu discovers how to use a Wildcard...)

The Mysterious Island

Following the Squirtle trail to the coast, the team comes to a rocky beach, where a large rowboat leans bottom-side-up against a boulder near the water. This appears to be the origin of the Squirtles' exodus from the water; the beach covered with many sorts of tracks.

Offshore, about a mile or two out, everyone can see a small island. It rises a hundred or so feet above the waves, being five or more times in width, and is covered with large haggard-looking trees. Three monolithic heads of carved black stone stand on a ridge above a gray volcanic beach, facing the mainland. Though humanoid, they look menacing and strange, with distinctly fish-like qualities. Beyond them, jutting above the trees at the very peak of the island, is an ominous stone tower wreathed in what appears to be a cloud of dark smoke. Every now and then, an orange-ish glow can be seen radiating through the smoke.

As Brock looks on, he thinks he may have heard a legend about an island like this - called 'Gengar’s Tower' - a mysterious tower on a disappearing island. It is said the appearance of Gengar’s Tower is a bad omen. No one visits Gengar’s Tower when it appears, because they fear the island will disappear with them on it.

The island also seems familiar to Pikachu as well, but more of like being somewhere Pikachu has been to before, rather than something he's actually heard about. Almost like he must have dreamed about it at some point and then forgotten, until just now.

---

As everyone considers what to do next, a dark shadow moves, ever-so-slightly, from under the overturned rowboat on the rocky beach...

The lightning hits the rowboat and lights it up - but all is silent afterwards... and you still can't tell what's under the rowboat...

Nurse Joy seems to ignore the shadow, and looks across the water at the monolithic heads.

"Oh dear. These statues look just like what happened with those poor pokemon."

She says.

"I'm sure this strange island has something to do with these terrible occurrences. We should row over there and explore the island to see if any of the pokemon there are afflicted, then investigate the tower."

Nurse Joy suggests.

Meanwhile, as Nurse Joy is standing there, a large red claw reaches out from under the over-turned rowboat and pinches the heck out of her big toe (for 5 Damage)!

Apparently, there is a Krabby hiding under there!

"Ouch!"

Nurse Joy yells after having her big toe pinched.

"Shoo, shoo!"

She continues, trying to get the Krabby to leave by feebly throwing pokeballs at it. Chancy meanwhile waddles over to assist her by bitch-slapping the hell out of that damnable Krabby!

(Even though it's still under the boat lol)

The Krabby scuttles away from Nurse Joy - who manages to hit the rowboat with her Pokéball - and is too fast for Chansy to actually slap.

It looks like it is going to flee into the water!

Nurse Joy rubs her injured toe with her hand before calmly walking over and picking up her pokeball, content to ignore the Krabby now that it is no longer bothering her.

"I guess that Krabby was in an awfully crabby mood."

She jokes.

Amazingly, Officer Jenny manages to hit the Krabby square in the face with a ... pink fuzzy slipper ... (where the heck did that come from?!?)

Looking at her belt, Officer Jenny sees that she is missing two Pokéballs - one of which had apparently been swapped out with the slipper she just threw.

Geodude meanwhile, uses Seismic Toss as the Krabby uses Guillotine. In a great clash, Geodude is deflected off the huge red claw and then completely walloped for 14 Damage and KO, which Geodude manages to shake off (made save).

Brock throws a Pokéball himself - also noting that he only has two at the moment - and hits. The Krabby is drawn in but immediately pops back out...

Jenny throws out Growlithe! "Go growlithe, show the Krabby not to mess with the law, that little bugger stole two of pokeballs, DONT LET HIM GET AWAY!" She shouts, not realising who the actual yellow little thief is...

"YOU THERE!" She points at pikachu. "GET THE THIEF!" She shouts as she gives Pikachu 1 surge for an attack.

"Oh dear, he stole your pokeballs?"

Nurse Joy says in a concerned tone.

"Chansey, try and get them back for Officer Jenny!"

She says. She then begins throwing pokeballs at the Krabby again.

"Stop right there, or I'll throw a pokeball at you!"

"PIKACHU!!!" Pikachu shouts, sending an Arc, and then surges (from the born leader) and throws a
Pokeball from somewhere at the Krab.

Unsure what to do more, Ash just throws one of his Pokéballs at the krabby, using surges if necessary.
