"Can we at least get to higher ground? That way I can see the land around us better."
 Miya suggests to Roka.

"Thank you, this strange change in the land is disturbing... How much time has passed while we were in the spirit realm?"
Miya begins heading for a nearby hill.

Kirito looks at a tree, one he remembers, to determine how much it had grown.

"We can teleport tomorrow, not today. Unless Kirito has some reserve fuel for us."
"nope. all out."

"Then you should know that i'm going to force them to give me a copy as soon as soon as they have finished making one." Kirito replied, walking out the same way he walked in.

Yuki stares blankly at Kirito, in shock at what he just said.

"You can only duplicate something once. One copy will go to Sendai, one copy will go to Yunikawa."

She then pauses.

"You will not get a copy."

Yuki looks around at the snow with some confusion, but doesn't say anything in regards to it.

The trees seem pretty much the same to Kirito (but that could be from the double vision his Exhaustion and Disablement are causing him) - but to Miya, they have grown quite a bit (including new ones and ones that have died off).

Though Miya doesn't really know the life-cycle of spirit willows, she quesses about a decade has passed.

Kirito meanwhile, suddenly remembers that while it was exceptionally rare, he actually has heard tales of people entering the Spirit world and spending only a few days there, only to come out again a hundred years later. It was generally something most Wu-Jen and Priests knew was possible, but never really worried about, due to the incredibly slim chance of it actually happening...

Udo looks around at the nearby plants (specifically the spirit willows), maybe he can get a more accurate estimation of the time that has transpired.

"So, we're setting up camp now?"

Udo figures that he can tell how long the trees have been growing if Miya shows him one that wasn't there when they first came through.

Jenna meanwhile, points to Rai - who is busy setting up a campsite.

"He just got started a couple of minutes ago."

It sometimes happen, incredibly rare mind you, that some people who are in the spirit realm for a few days, end up some hundred years into the future. "... What?"

"I came to the Islands in 594. I grew up sailing I know it didnt take me long to get here. I am 100%  positive the date was midsummer 594. Period. What you are saying is absurd. How could I travel 700 years into the future and still remember what I did in this same spot yesterday!?" Lee stares at nothing in particular...

Rai feels he still has his shared spell on him says, "I don't think so. Not sure how shared spells work but I am pretty sure we would have lost ours if "Uncle" was not born/alive. So we are probably not to far past or present from our time."

"Udo, come here." She beckons him to her as she stands near a short and obviously young tree.
"I don't remember the tree here being so small. Lee said it was midsummer 594, that would be 703 years into the past..."

Her eyes widen as she realizes something from her studies of history before she became a Samurai.
"We can stop the Chinese from invading Japan! Udo, my father can survive in the future!"  She stops for a moment. "Wait, no. We are to far back in time for that..." She seems frustrated as she talks to no one in particular.

"Don't worry Miya," Jenna says as she heads off with Roka for the evening - "As Rai correctly surmises, we are not in the past. Yunikawa is still alive, else I would be free to follow my nature and drain you all of your precious precious life-blood while you sleep."

Jenna then winked at Miya and went with Roka.

Miya decides she might as well take first watch since she won't be able to fall asleep with that noise from Roka's tent and plans to wake Udo or Rai later for 2nd watch.

As Udo slept, he had a very unusual dream – that he awoke back in the verdant plane where Sendai was in the Spirit World. He was alone and unable to move for some reason, but then lifted up from the ground by a multitude of leafy branches.

He then saw that five living trees were holding him up to show him five gargantuan Elementals – one of Earth, one of Fire, one of Air, one of Water, and one of Wood (of all things) – each the size of a small mountain!

Then the ground opened up beneath the Elementals and they all tumbled into a dark abyss – where living shadow seeped into them and corrupted them beyond their own forms – changing them into terrible dragons of darkness and evil that flew out of the Earth’s Wound and off into the night sky.

At that point, Udo awoke from the dream, back with the rest of the Samurai in the campsite Rai had prepared for them. Udo felt a sense of dread at what he had seen, yet somehow knew that this was a vision of the past and not a future event to come.

He also felt an incredible connection to the Earth itself, like he had never before experienced, and knew that he had just been chosen for something special. He was destined to take on the mantle of Forest Ward…

1st Day of Spring, 1306
Eight Years and Eight Months

The next morning, everyone awoke and Kirito was feeling a little better. Good enough in fact, to cast Teleport after his morning meditations.

For some reason though, when Kirito tried to cast the spell the first time, it didn’t take anyone anywhere – leaving them all standing there holding hands.

With a frustrated look, Kirito tried again, and everyone was instantly transported to the west side of Sendai, about five miles into the foothills, on the trail to Yunikawa’s Mountain Citadel in fact (about one third of the way to Yunikawa’s from Sendai).

Unlike the high mountain pass, there was no snow here – but the landscape was wet and muddy from all the spring rains.

To everyone’s relief, Sendai was still there in the valley below and looked the same as they had left it – what should have been only a week or two ago.

Looking with their spyglasses meanwhile, Udo and Lee could see that the flags of Chief Magistrate Noburu Saito were flying – indicating that he was currently in charge of Sendai.

That could either mean that the Daimyo was now dead, or had simply gone away to Edo for the next year, as was the custom.

"Finally" Udo says, shuddering. What a wacky dream... He thinks before spotting the flags, "Hey! It seems like the Chief Magistrate is in control now, maybe. Unless the Daimyo's out to Edo..."

He continues to murmur, this was all really confusing, but he was glad that they were back home, whatever year it was.

"I Don't know who these people are so let us ride!" Lee said awkwardly. He obviously still feels terribly out of the loop.

"You might be surprised at what has happened through the years Lee. But I'll try to help you get used to it."
Miya says to him before riding up near Rai.

"You worried about something Rai?"

Rai scoffs, "Other then the usual worries? I am terrified about what might have happened in 8 years. I need to get into touch with my allies as quickly as possible. Also I am worried about everyone in the group knowing. To many people to watch. Further more our previous daymio, if he is still in power, was a spirit set on my destruction."

"Thats about it. Also I forgot to give you this back at the camp." He pulls out the ruby eye and hands it to Miya. "I can't use it to its full advantage because it would give me away when I disguise or hide myself. You are the only other person in this group I trust enough to give this to."

"It seems, I am now in a world I was never meant to live in. Is there any getting used to that?" He sighs briefly. "It seems your 'Gods' have a twisted sense of humor..."

"You know I can't let anything happen to the true emperor of Japan. Besides, if our previous daimyo comes to destroy you then he just presented himself as a target to me and I wouldn't mind that at all." Miya smiles as she says this.

Taking the ruby eye she looks at it.
"Interesting, what does it do? Are you sure you want to give this to me Rai? You might be able to use it better than I can."
