I would like to be the first person to congratulate and introduce to all of you" The Murder Mystery Dinner 1st place winner of  The Bonehead Award......... BZ!!!!!!!" Ah yes he did it. We went to this dinner where you figure out who killed who and why. The scenario was Dracula and his Chalet. To make a long story short, the bride of Frakenstein was the killer, she killed drac out of jealousy. BZ put in his idea of what happened. Here it goes" He said that a dead baby skeleton named Dorine mind controlled Igor( her faithful owner) who was not wearing a tin foil hat and thus swayed to do the little omens bidding". He turned in his ballot with his name on it " Abby Normal" and won a certificate which states........

Musical Mysteries & More is proud to present THE BONEHEAD AWARD to " Abby Normal" for not even coming close to figuring out the mystery. This award prominently displayed earns them the ridicule of friends, family, comrades and peers and lets the world know that in no way should they be allowed out of the house unescorted." He won first prize folks!! ;D

I'll be off on a canoe/island/cold weather camping trip with the family this weekend.  (my teenage daughters are thrilled of course... hehehehe)  ;)

I love being the one who gets to say "because it builds 'character'"  ;D

I'm going camping next month! Jay's sister Joy and her boyfriend are coming out to visit us over Thanksgiving week. Her only request was to see the redwood where I took Jay for his birthday a coupld years ago.

So we're driving about 5 hours north and going camping for one night. There's beautiful hiking trails and whatnot. We just rented a tent cabin for one night at a really nice campgrounds. I loved it there last time. It's four wood walls and a tarp roof. It has two double bed platforms with a pad on them and a little wood burning heater inside. It gets pretty cold up there since it's not far from the coast. No set up time means more time for hiking and enjoying the woods.

I can't wait!

Well, we survived our island camping adventure  ;D

It was a lot of fun and nobody died, which as nice  ;)

Friday afternoon, I loaded up a canoe and went alone to drop supplies off on an island we wanted to try camping on.  When I got to the island however, I found that a nearby cement plant was way too loud to camp there, so I unloaded my provisions on the island and proceeded to paddle back upstream to the drop in point.  After about three hundred yards, it was clear I would never get back in time to meet my wife there with another canoe and other supplies – so I went across the river and docked the canoe.  From there I hiked up a hundred ft incline to a railroad track, caught my breath, then continued up another two hundred foot incline to a road, where I called my wife to let her know where to pick me up.

Once we got back together, we gathered the rest of our supplies and a second canoe and headed to the drop in point.  There we went down river to where I had docked the first canoe.  I picked it up and we went to the island where I dropped our supplies.  We decided to pick up the supplies and head another hour down river to another island (which we had camped on before) – it was dark by the time we had loaded up and so we took a surreal moonlit canoe trip down a river to our island.  We set up camp and were to bed around 1:00am.

It rained that night, which isn’t a problem due to a superior tent and having all the right gear for such an event.  But our tarp (which we had hung over our camp had blown down on one side, due to the stakes being in sandy soil with no holding power.  That and the fact that our site was on the pebbly rock strewn flood plain of the river (basically a dry river bed) we decided to move our entire camp to a better spot in the morning with the daylight.  So we did and I got soaked setting up our tarp in the new spot.  Once the tarp was up and I was dripping wet, it stopped raining and didn’t again for the entire campout. Nice.  :P

Anyway.  We went down river that afternoon, got picked up an portaged to the drop in point again, where we picked up the rest of our family (and my mom) to bring them down river to our island campsite.  It was pretty neat seeing my one-year old’s reaction to all the new and interesting stuff she got to see/experience on the trip for the first time.

That night the temp dropped to 33 degrees, but we were toasty warm in our tents and mummy sleeping bags, including the little one who was snuggled in between Ladyzerka and I in our zipped together mummy bags.

The next day, after canoeing and such, we took everyone to down river to the drop off point, then Lady Z and I canoed back to the island and hung out till 6:00pm, befor loading everything up and coming in for pick up and portage home.

Lots of fun.  8)

BZ is right. Loads of fun this weekend. ;D The part where BZ and I had to paddle to our island after dropping off the family, he forgot to mention that we had to go up stream, against strong wind and I could see the island but could not seem to reach it. It was tough, but as BZ says" It builds character!!!!" ;) I had a great time. Fighting the elements, cooking filet mignon at midnight and the best darn cheesy potatoes made in a dutch oven this side of the Mississippi. ;D The moonlit river trip is too cool to put into words. Full moon gave us a little light. A big fish jumped out of the water near BZ's canoe and he about jumped out of his skin( HEE HEE HEE!!!) It was also Halloween night and one of our daughters threw up because the other kind sisters reassured her that Michael Myers would be visiting them that evening.  ::) They are sweet like that. This is a kid who hates outdoors and will not even sleep without a night light. All in all it was a great time.  :)

You didn't know JP had a bottled water product? Used pop bottles filled at the creek. I think there were 3 flavors. Plain, murkey, and extra bold. Each one thicker than the last. LOL

We could have made millions! *snort*

What I have heard about Dragon con from my friends who go:
They don't go to game, you will find SOME gaming, but not alot. One person said there is about 1/8th the gaming that gencon has.
It IS about costumes, parties, naughty costumes, naughty parties, and guests of honor. The majority of the people there, are there to - dress up, get autographs, party, look at costumes, drink and party some more.

It gets a decent amount of celebrities, and has some awesome vendors. So if you have the money and stamina to wait in lines and pay fees you can get alot of autographs. And of course the parties are notorious. If you like to cosplay this is the mecca.

While Most RPGs would do ok, BHB has an advantage over many as DragonCon has a huge Anime influence and as such BHB being heavily ANime based could potentially have good showings at Dragon Con

Sort of quiet around here lately.  On an unrelated note, we're almost to 50 members.  That's actually saying something too, as I have dilligently been deleting spam accounts from the get go.  These 45 we have now are at least 96% 'real folks' (you should be proud ;D).  Counting the bogus accounts, we've actually had 81 members so far  :)

So we've been really quiet and not posting much but I think you'll forgive us when I tell you that we have been very busy getting ready....

TO COME HOME!!!

We are indeed moving back to the midwest next month. We're leaving here on January 5h and should roll into Ohio on the 10th.

We have a temporary apartment to stay in for awhile, then we go wherever we find work. But at least we will be in within a days journey no matter what.

So we will see you guys very very soon!!!
